here's a clue: welker doesn't do jack against the ravens defense anyways, either back in 2007 or in the matchup earlier this season. without him, this offense does not operate at full capability. having wilfork or any other defensive personnel return is moot----the ravens moved the ball on them anyways and were essentially in gamewinning position last time except for the dropped clayton pass. if it was that close last time, it won't be this time.

 

here's another clue---despite the media reports, brady may have bruised ribs, with which he can play through pain, but he does not have 3 broken ribs, with which he would not play.

Before everyone freaks out and says we're all done..remember, we are the best team in football at winning despite controversy. The Welker injury was a total fluke and had nothing to do with The Hoodie playing his starters. I think that Julian Edelman WILL be the key to victory Sunday. Playing behind arguably the best 3rd down wideout in football gives him all the preparation he will need to succeed. There ARE some advantages to having Edelman play. Hes faster than Welker, running a 4.45 at the combine where as Welker only ran a 4.6 Hes better at breaking tackles than Welker and is 5 inches taller. There are downsides as well. He doesn't run routes as well as Welker and doesnt have the hands or the big game experience that Welker has. My prediction for sunday. Julian Edelman 11 catches for 130 yards and 2 TD's in a Patriots 24-17 victory. It's time for everyone to step their game up and I believe we can do it!!

welker is good.....real good....but not a god.....he is a system guy who succeded with a top 2 qb throwing to him and a top 5 offensive line. Slot wr is all about quickness and getting seperation for those short throws across the middle. edelman may be 70-80% of welker right now and trust me that is plenty good enough to beat the ravens. This pats game is the lock of the week......There is no way the pats lose this game and that is due to edelman's quickness and good hands.

But I will say, that I'm not nearly afraid of SD and NE as EVERYONE makes us out to be. San Diego beat us 2 years in a row in the playoffs, once at home, once on the road...

 

At SD in 2008 (last year) - A 23-17 OT win for San Diego, in which Peyton Manning never even took the field in OT. That game was 100% put on our DEF, for letting SD march into FG range with :30 seconds to tie the game, than letting Darren Sproles eat us alive in OT. We gave up 167 yards and 3TDs on the ground . Manning played well, throwing for 300+ yards, 1 TD, and not turning the ball over. Sidenote on this game: in OT on a 3rd and long, they called a DEF PI on our CB against Chris Chambers that was an absolute bogus call (bad call AND uncatchable). They don't make that call, I think we win the game.

 

At Indy in 2007 - a 28-24 SD win, again in which our DEF didn't play well, and Peyton Manning did. He had 400 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs. There weren't many freak plays in this game, except Marvin Harrison's first career fumble (sarcasm) in SD's red zone early in the game. At the time, we were marching to make the game 14-0, instead it became a 7-7 game.

 

Not trying to make excuses by any means, SD beat us twice fair and square. But by no means were they convincing wins, or wins that would input doubt into the Colts organization. Heck, if one or two plays are different in each game, we win both of them. The fact that we will have a fairly easy opponent in the divisional round while SD gets NE, then comes into Indy for the Championship game, I really like our team's chances.

I'm assuming you're talking about Brady here although he's not top 2. However, Welker did just fine last year with 111 catches playing with Cassel. Then again, Cassel won more games last year than Brady has this year. Regardless, I don't think Welker's productivity depends on who is at QB.
