Brooks (LB) agrees to 2-yr Deal.

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks signed a waiver to participate in the 49ers' offseason earlier in the week. Today, the 49ers announced Brooks signed a new two-year contract. Terms of the contract were not immediately known. Brooks, a four-year veteran, was a restricted free agent.

Good news.

Seattle's Kerney retires!

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Patrick Kerney has announced his retirement. The two-time Pro Bowl selection and 2007 All-Pro said in a statement released by the team on Tuesday that he wants to continue his career, but "the toll that has been taken on my body will no longer allow me to."

:shocking:

Thank God it's only an April Fool's joke. The 49ers are still in disarray and adding Millen as a GM would pull the Niners to the bottom of the Abyss for sure. First thing that needs done is to get rid of the Yorks,Jed & Denise, and get some real football people in there to own the team. A person/group of people who are passionate about football and the 49ers. Then we would be on our way up and getting back to winning. This storied franchise, with 5 SB rings, has been down long enough. It's time to get the right people(management) in there and good character players who'll help this team start winning again. On good character people, I've seen rumors that the 49ers may persue WR Brandon Marshall. Yeah he brings a lot of baggage but Singletary could handle him. If Smith can't be productive with Gore,Marshall,Crabtree & Vernon Davis then they need to ship him clean outta town on the next bus and say adios MF'er.

I was happy to hear that Kearney retired, and Marshall got shipped to the Dolphins. At least Seattle didn't get Marshall and he is out of our division.

From Rotoworld:

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports that the 49ers have acquired WR/KR Ted Ginn from the Dolphins in exchange for a late-round pick.

I did not see that coming. I'm assuming he would be our KR/PR guy, so that tells me Spiller might not be an option anymore.

edit: Just saw on ESPN it's for a 5th round pick. Not bad at all.

At least YOU use the 49ers thread, worm!

Ten Ginn (WR) acquired from Dolphins for a 2010 5th Round Pick (#145 Overall)

Ginn gives the 49ers a return specialist. The 49ers now can still pick up a player who can handle return duties in the draft, but it's not a dire need. Ginn does not figure to supplant Josh Morgan as a starting receiver, but he can work his way onto the field as the No. 3 receiver. He'll compete with Jason Hill and Brandon Jones. This move clearly puts Jones on the hot seat. Ginn will suit up on game days for his return skills, which means he'll be no worse than the No. 4 receiver on the team.

Receiver

2009: 38 rec, 454 yards (11.9 avg), 1 TD

2008: 56 rec, 790 yards (14.1 avg), 2 TDs

2007: 34 rec, 420 yards (12.4 avg), 2 TDs

Kickoff returns

2009: 52 ret, 1296 yards (24.9 avg), 2 TDs

2008: 32 ret, 657 yards (20.5 avg), 0 TDs

2007: 63 ret, 1433 yards (22.7 avg), 0 TDs

Punt returns

2009: 5 ret, 28 yards (5.6 avg), 0 TDs

2008: 7 ret, 54 yads (7.7 avg), 0 TDs

2007: 24 ret, 230 yards (9.6 avg), 1 TD

He's still very young so I think this is a great signing. Only reason I would be dissapointed is because I was really really wanting Spiller or Best. I think this means we go another direction with our first three picks unless we do something crazy and trade up to really push this year.

I'm wondering if outside linebacker becomes a possibility now. If the top 4 OT's are gone by 13, Haden should be available, but then there won't be an OT worth the 17th. So then it comes down to Iupati and maybe Kindle or Brandon Graham? Hopefully there's a trade down scenario, maybe w/ Philly, and we can grab Charles Brown.

Okung, Bulaga, Williams, Campbell, Davis, Brown

Iupati

Haden

Kindle, Graham

I think it's safe to say that two people from that list will be 49ers when the first round is completed. And if one of them isn't Haden, I could see us getting some extra KR/PR security by drafting Xavier Arenas in the 3rd or 4th. It really all hinges on how Seattle plays it and if a wrench is throw into our board with a Clausen dropping to 13. I hope to God we don't draft Clausen. Earl Thomas is also a realistic candidate I suppose.

I never thought that Spiller was a possibility in the 1st, but I like Best in the 2nd and I don't think getting Ginn will take that option away. Best would be another explosive offensive weapon in the offense and a possible replacement for Gore down the line.

I really like the Ginn deal. Solves the return issue and hopefully, since he is only 25, he can still become a usuable WR. Does make you wonder even more why Pittsburgh couldn't get more for Holmes despite his issues.

Can't wait for Thursday....................

You can take Okung,Bulaga and Williams off that list as they'll be gone before 13. I'm not sold on Campbell so I'd rather have Anthony Davis. Watch out though, there's a lot of talk of taking Clausen at 17 if he's still on the board.

I have a gut feeling that Davis will be gone by 13. With Williams struggling at LT in college and whispers that Bulaga looks like more of a RT, Davis' upside could beat them out. If Andre Smith can go 6 overall, what's stopping Seattle from doing the same?

From Maiocco

Outside linebacker Travis LaBoy agreed to terms today on a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the 49ers, a league source said, confirming an ESPN report. This signing gives the 49ers four experienced players at the pass-rushing position. Parys Haralson, Ahmad Brooks and Manny Lawson combined for 17.5 sacks last season. Haralson and Lawson started every game, while Brooks took over for Lawson as the pass-rush specialist on third downs late in the season.

Good depth signing indeed.

Safe to say that the pass rush wont be an item of focus in the draft.

2010 Schedule:

Week 1 - @ Seattle

Week 2 - vs. New Orleans (MNF)

Week 3 - @ Kansas City

Week 4 - @ Atlanta

Week 5 - vs. Philadelphia (SNF)

Week 6 - vs. Oakland

Week 7 - @ Carolina

Week 8 - vs. Denver (in London)

Week 9 - Bye

Week 10 - vs. St Louis

Week 11 - vs. Tampa Bay

Week 12 - @ Arizona (MNF)

Week 13 - @ Green Bay

Week 14 - vs. Seattle

Week 15 - @ San Diego (Thurs)

Week 16 - @ St. Louis

Week 17 - vs. Arizona

Not a bad schedule, to be honest. I'm glad we get Arizona at home in week 17, that has the potential to be HUGE for playoff implications.

edit: On second look, it's a lot of travelling, especially at the end. I see us winning 2 of the last 4 road games, but if we can escape GB or SD with a win on a short week that would be big.

2010 Schedule:

Week 1 - @ Seattle (L?) - Seattle plays us like we play Arizona. Very hard to predict the outcome of these games.

Week 2 - vs. New Orleans (L) - My signature prediction relies on injuries...most likely wont happen before Week 2.

Week 3 - @ Kansas City (W) - Much improved, but still an easy win. Our Run D is to much for teams that can't pass.

Week 4 - @ Atlanta (L) - Completely wiped the floor with us last year. Personnel really hasn't changed.

Week 5 - vs. Philadelphia (W?) - Is Kolb the answer?

Week 6 - vs. Oakland (W) - It's Oakland.

Week 7 - @ Carolina (W?) - Could go either way honestly.

Week 8 - vs. Denver (W) - I don't think Denver can overcome this years losses.

Week 9 - Bye

Week 10 - vs. St Louis (W) - It's St. Louis.

Week 11 - vs. Tampa Bay (W) - It's Tampa Bay.

Week 12 - @ Arizona (W?) - We always play Arizona good, but was that because of Warner?

Week 13 - @ Green Bay (L) - I think Green Bay takes the NFC this year.

Week 14 - vs. Seattle (W) - Maybe in Seattle, but not at home.

Week 15 - @ San Diego (L) - Norv knows our team. Our Offense hasn't been good since he left.

Week 16 - @ St. Louis (W) - It's St. Louis.

Week 17 - vs. Arizona (W) - Potentially a big game. We'll show up for it at home.

Really disappointing that our Opener isn't against Arizona. Thank God that we get a BYE after our London game. It sucks that we get San Diego on our short week. Good to see us getting two Monday Night games against quality opponents. I took the liberty of putting my pre-draft predictions out in parenthesis. 11-5 is probably a bit optimistic, but I really think we can sweep the division this year. I've updated the OP with times/networks for the games too.

 @ 6 Games that start at 10AM Pacific and losing a home game btw.

Good thing that our game before the London "home" game is on the East Coast and the bye week is after that trip. As it stands I can see it being a 2 week road trip.

This is a bit of a long post. Sorry in advance. Here's Maiocco's initial thoughts on our schedule: (he later tweeted that his first glance was 9-7 and win the Division)

Sunday, Sept. 12 - At Seattle, 1:15 p.m. (Fox): The 49ers return to the scene of their most crippling loss. A fumbled reverse on a punt started a downward spiral. And when it was over, the 49ers could kiss their playoff hopes good-bye. The 49ers opened against the Cardinals the four previous seasons.

Monday, Sept. 20 - Vs. New Orleans, 5:30 p.m. (ESPN): The defending Super Bowl champs come to town. The 49ers have lost five consecutive games to the Saints.

Sunday, Sept. 26 - At Kansas City, 10 a.m. (Fox): The last time the 49ers went to Arrowhead Stadium and won a game was 1982. The Chiefs outscored the 49ers 85-19 in the past two games in Kansas City.

Sunday, Oct. 3 - At Atlanta, 10 a.m. (Fox): After their 45-10 thrashing of the 49ers last season, the Falcons might feel as if they can send the junior varsity out for this game at the Georgia Dome.

Sunday, Oct. 10 - Vs. Philadelphia, 5:20 p.m. (NBC): Donovan McNabb averaged 306 yards passing and the Eagles averaged 37 points per game against the 49ers in the past four meetings between the clubs. The 49ers aren't disappointed Kevin Kolb is taking over for McNabb, who was shipped to Washington.

Sunday, Oct. 17 - Vs. Oakland, 1:05 p.m. (CBS): It's been a rough patch for the Bay Area teams since 2002, when both organizations made the playoffs with the Raiders going the Super Bowl. The 49ers haven't had a winning record, but they've reached seven wins twice and eight victories last year. The Raiders have gone seven straight seasons with at least 11 defeats.

Sunday, Oct. 24 - At Carolina, 10 a.m. (Fox): The Matt Moore era has started with the Panthers, as quarterback Jake Delhomme has been banished to Cleveland after seven seasons as the starter in Carolina. This is the beginning of a long road trip, as the 49ers will leave right after this game for the U.K.

Sunday, Oct. 31 - vs. Denver (London), 10 a.m. (CBS): The 49ers played the NFL's first regular-season game outside the U.S. when they went to Mexico City in 2005. They gave up a scheduled home game this season to play in famed Wembley Stadium.

Sunday, Nov. 7 - Bye week.

Sunday, Nov. 14 - Vs. St. Louis, 1:15 p.m. (Fox): Will the 49ers face rookie quarterback Sam Bradford? The word is that the Rams are doing everything possible to trade out of the No. 1 overall pick with the draft less than two days away.

Sunday, Nov. 21 - Vs. Tampa Bay, 1:05 p.m. (Fox): Remember that game in 1980 when the Bucs came to Candlestick and beat the 49ers 24-23? Well, neither do I. But in 12 meetings between these teams that have taken place in San Francisco, that's the only time Tampa was victorious. The early line has the 49ers as a 7.5-point favorite.

Monday, Nov. 29 - At Arizona, 5:30 p.m. (ESPN): The 49ers take to the Monday night stage again. It's a different-looking Cardinals team the 49ers will travel to face in the desert with no Kurt Warner and no Anquan Boldin.

Sunday, Dec. 5 - At Green Bay, 10 a.m. (Fox): The 49ers return to Lambeau Field, and Aaron Rodgers is already salivating.

Sunday, Dec. 12 - Vs. Seattle, 1:05 p.m. (Fox): It's Pete Carroll's return to the Bay Area. Maybe he can squeeze in a dinner date with his buddy, Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh.

Thursday, Dec. 16 - At San Diego, 5:20 p.m. (NFL Network): Yes, Norv Turner is still the Chargers' coach. Oh, how things might have been different if this Chargers job had not come along after his one season as 49ers offensive coordinator in 2006 . . .

Sunday, Dec. 26 - At St. Louis, 10 a.m. (Fox): The 49ers have won three in a row in St. Louis and four of their past five along the banks of the Mississippi River. Thank goodness they play in a dome. It'll be really cold outside.

Sunday, Jan. 2 - Vs. Arizona, 1:15 p.m. (Fox): The 49ers put together their best all-around performance a year ago against the Cardinals at Candlestick in a Monday night game. They didn't open against the Cardinals this year, but at least they finish with them.

Close enough so far! I'll take Singletary, Solari, and Brown's word on Anthony Davis over Bulaga. I'm hoping we still get John Conner late, but we don't have a 4th or 5th anymore unless we actually trade Manny Lawson. We did get a 6th Comp though. I would die a happy man if Best fell all the way to our 2nd.

Jeebus. A line that could realistically be together for almost 10 years.

Alex Smith: 25

Nate Davis: 21

Frank Gore: 26

Vernon Davis: 26

Michael Crabtree: 22

Ted Ginn: 25

Jason Hill: 25

Josh Morgan: 24

Now that's one offense with plenty of time to get to know each other. :headbanger:

That was a great call on this scenario a few months back...............

As a fan, I haven't been this optimistic going into a season since Steve Young retired. The week link of the team was the OL and they addressed it in a big way. Liked the fact that they were aggressive to get their guy in Davis instead of sitting and hoping someone didn't jump in front of them.

I am thinking that you might see them move up again tonight by packaging their 2-3 to jump up and grab someone they see as an impact player. Will be interesting..................

Interview with Anthony Davis after being drafted.

Really glad I got linked this interview....assures me that we made the right choice. And he's apparently genuinely stoked to be here! Figured I'd share.

Also, the draft room is open for viewing via live stream again.

That was cool. I like how he said after his visit he wanted to just come out and say he wanted to go to San Francisco, but of course he couldn't. For a guy that has alleged motivation problems, this might be the best case scenario.

Edit:

Also, took a screenshot of NFL.com's 3rd Round page...they have grades listed based on projected draft position. Navorro Bowman got the highest grade. So at least there's that.

With no 4th or 5th round pick, it's pretty tough to see us drafting a starting-caliber CB. There is still the option of re-signing Bly, or even Harris if he feels good. They would at least provide depth that knows the system. There's also Reggie Smith, but if they haven't seen anything from him yet then he's just another body.

Don't forget that we also signed Paymah.

Clements

Spencer

Brown

Paymah

R. Smith

K. Smith

Still....resigning Bly is going to be a priority.

Another video: Anthony Davis arriving at SF Headquarters.

Sorry, the kid just excites me. Kinda reminds me of a wider Lamar Odom. Just can't help but love his vibe. Iupati appears at the end. I wont lie...seeing them side by side...can't help but smile. Those are some BIG men.
