Don't you have a wife and kid? 2 weeks away, and 1 week home ain't gunna fly with the wifey. I gave a lesson to a lady a few weeks ago that lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years. Her husband is still there and she flat out couldn't take that way of life anymore. She's still married to the guy, but she lives here now while he works there. There is a reason they offer 3X the amount you've seen. It's a focking hell hole.

I in no way mean to sound judgemental.

Personally, why I got out of the Navy when I got married was the travel. It was fine and fun when I was single. My thought

process changed.

Just could not come to terms w/ not being around my for son and wife.

Results aside, there is no replacement for a father's fulltime presence in their offspring's everyday lives all the time.

Dont do it Moz.

You cant put a price on it.

The offer is 215K annually , a 3K a month expense account , free first class air travel , get put up in a nice hotel , plus benefits ( HEALTH N DENTAL ) Basically I am there 2 weeks and home 1 week.

best offer I have had here is in Bismark North Dakota for 105K - I did make just over 150K before.

how will you survive on 105K? LOL

Id take that job over the 215K job in Iraq or SA

thats 215 plus an 3k a month expense account. so more like 250 and add on a nice bonus and I'm looking at around 300 a year. In Bismark it's A. focking cold , B. focking cold , and C they give a bonus only if they turn a profit and thats only 5%. So yeah 105 in Bismark likely buys alot but still man I got 3 kids and a wife -- 105 isn't as much as you think. I go the mid east and my family is finacially set.

right now I stand 40/40/20 collecting unemployment and just getting noticed I am about to recieve a lump sum of 2 1/2 years pay in my lawsuit settlement plus getting unemployment to stay home does totally suck

Hell >>>>>> Bismark, ND. fock if you could pay me enough to go there... but i'm betting 150K there is worth like a bajillion just about any civilized place in the US...

i couldn't do the ME thing. no way do i leave the fam that long. fock, if they told me i had to travel 4 days out of the week i'd quit... i don't live to work, or work to live. my life isn't centered around the money i make (but i got a big c0ck so my wife loves me either way, for you Moz, you may need to make the big bucks... )

$105k in Bismark? That would put you 4th in line the whole city in wealth. Doctor - Lawyer - Small Business Owner - Moz

I made 80k in Greenville, Mississippi and lived in a 2,000 sq foot house with a $700 monthly payment! I was investing nearly 12k a year for 5 years. We took 9 vacations one year including the Cayman Islands. Country Club Membership, Casino excursions often, The best 2 restaurants yummy....ahhhhhh.

Now I make a little more, have three kids, invest a whopping $1k a year, pay $200 per month for life insurance, never eat out, never get a long vacation without the kids, and it seems like everybody in town makes more than me.

There is nothing wrong making a sh!t load of money in a smallish town for a while. That life style begins to grow on you.

You could be a land Baron down the road in North Dakota with that income - fock those cold winters, 45 below zero is overated, you can handle it Moz:)

anywhere in the USA > any middle east job offer with you leaving your family that long.

Seriously - you have 3 kids and a wife. If you are not there for 2 weeks at a time, plus leaving her to deal with all that sh!t of 3 kids for 336 straight hours - I truly believe you will lose your family.

I have 3 kids, I couldn't imagine missing all their daily occurences that you're willing to give up. Like Dehaven said " there is no replacement for a father's fulltime presence in their offspring's everyday lives all the time. Dont do it Moz. You cant put a price on it."

the extra money doesnt change my opinion but thats just me. I also dont think Bismark would be as bad as you think. Go buy a snowmobile and some ice fishing traps

So far it's unanimous Moz - your ff mates that you've never met in person, have deemed it's best not to take the overseas job. There you have it!

If you go the middle east they're going to force you to pray 5 times a day at specific times. Do you have a relationship with Allah? Also, it's a requirement to hate the United States.

Based on your responses in this thread, sounds like you have your priorities in order. Liquor, money, expense accts, no regard

for putting yourself at risk in an unstable environment and it's potential impact on your family if something happens to you,

free 1st class airfare, being a vacant husband fro your wife....

I think you should take the most money and work as far away from your wife and kid as possible.

At least you'll be able to pay your child support and alimony.

I have had a rough year there chief. Anf not many folks are hiring people that make what do. To take a Job I pretty much am looking at a 1/3 salary pay cut anywhere I go. As for the Fam hell I worked like 60-70hrs a week the last 6 years as it was at least this way they would have me home for an entire week instead of just Sundays as I worked from home most saturdays anyway. Hell I could even fly to Dubai for the weekends :)

Pretty much I won't go to Iraq but Saudi has a nice compound for western workers to stay and it's fairly safe -- if you wander out somehow then youre focked. But their gaurds to make sure noone does and if you leave you have to sign a waiver or something. anyway it would only be for a few years until the economy here picked and I would keep looking for a job here the entire time.

While we can all offer opinions on what we would do, really the only person that can make this decision is you. You know what's right for you more than we could. Take some time, talk about it with the wife, really consider your options, and go from there. Good luck to you either way.

and hence the problem of working in a big city. you commute 1.5-2.5 hours a day making your work week ridiculous in hours. You think you are paid really well, but in the scheme of familyhood you're not.

ask Kutulu what his daily commute is.

No thank you for this way of life. When was the last time you were at home for lunch Moz? I come home every day, then zip back to work. 11 minutes there-8 at best if I hit the lights, only 7 minutes back home (right turns are great w/o stoplights)

don't underestimate the money you save while living very very close to your job. I lived in Ft. Worth Texas, not quite as big as Chicago, but still.... Fock that sh!t.

I do not intend to minimize your yr's events.

However, those things I pointed out were your values and your evaluating criteria of the job offer you've chosen to bring

up in the thread. Your sorting criteria for decision making is skewed.

You asked for opinions and thoughts.

I lived in Bangor for a year and grew up about 45 minutes northwest of there. Stephen King lives there. Thats about it. If youre going to live in Maine, Portland is the best town to live in. Thats where i live now. Dan from this site lives about 15-20 minutes from me

Moz likes the gheys - especially the one's with towels on their heads.

BTW MOZ - you never gave us the update on your potential excursion last year to Vegas with a particular female workmate that you were tempted to do the naughty with. And...

this might play a factor in my decision for you to head out to the middle east. A compound might be good for you:)

You brought this up last year of something. I have no clue to find out where our past posts from this board are though. I know I'm not making it up. Didn't we have like 5 pages in this league? Where are they now?
