Starks Who?

Recommended Posts

You're a day late, and I still think he ends up a decent flex / 3rd back with better overall numbers than Grant.

I'm still here...

Starks looked horrible. I wish I could give you an excuse...but I can't. Grant simply outproduced him this week.

16 round fight.

Round 1 10-9 (Starks)

Round 2 10-9 (Starks)

Round 3 10-8 (Grant)

McCarthy: Ryan Grant has a bruised kidney

Coach Mike McCarthy revealed Monday that Ryan Grant suffered a bruised kidney in Sunday's win over the Bears.

McCarthy provided no details on Grant's Week 4 status other than to say he'll know more when the Packers resume practicing Wednesday. Green Bay faces the Broncos next. Grant broke out of an early-season slump to rack up 92 yards on 17 Week 3 carries, severely outplaying James Starks. If Grant is unable to play next Sunday, Starks would rise back into the RB2 range. Early indications remain that Grant should not miss game action.

so the next round should go to Starks as well.

If Grant won't miss any game action, why are you so sure?

Yeah i'll keep Starks on my bench for now but i'm still thinking that Starks will be the better back this year and will get more chances to prove that this year.

I'm buying low. Apparently Starks has a lower floor than we thought. Grant will always have a higher floor, much lower ceiling. He may be more dependable at times but the talent always shines through. Grant is STILL an underwhelming plodder. I remember watching him try and bring it to the edge last week. It literally took him 3-4 seconds to get there. It was...hilarious.

I drafted Starks in my auction for a buck.

A development like this is not unexpected. When a clear cut Veteran RB starter has an upstart (in this case Starks) come in and take a lot of the reps, the veteran often gets choked and has some kind of hissy fit behind closed doors with the coach.

The standard procedure in these cases for the coach is to use the situation to attempt to motovate both runners to do better things.

in this case, the coach likely gave Grant a chance to show he deserves a higher workload. (a common outcome-give the vet a chance)

Grant did okay. but wasnt spectacular (in my opinion)

As for Starks, its tough to judge a RB who gets only 5 carries. many RB's take at least 7-10 carries to get in a groove and Starks simply wasnt on the field enough.

I didnt see the whole game, but I saw a couple of his runs, and there was absolutely nothing there. The defense got penetration into the backfield and Starks was lucky to get back to the line of Scrimmage.

That being said, I wouldnt worry about this. This is not an indicator of Starks talent level.

Grant may hang onto the job a couple more weeks with roughly a 60-40 split with Starks, (barring injury of course) and as Starks Develops his skills, that ratio will gradually shift.

You got screwed.

That's your opinion. I'm happy to have him for a dollar.

Coach Mike McCarthy strongly suggested Tuesday that Ryan Grant will have a bigger role going forward after a 92-yard breakout game in Week 3.

"Ryan Grant is an attempt runner," McCarthy said. "That's what he is. He's a bull. You've got to give him the ball, he gets better as the game moves forward. He's an excellent north and south runner. I don't think the defensive players probably enjoy tackling him a lot." OC Joe Philbin conceded that Grant had "cleaner" holes than James Starks, but the Packers staff believes the veteran is finally showing pre-injury form. If his kidney bruise checks out this week, expect Grant to be the lead back against the Broncos. It's a "hot hand" approach from there.

I just frickin traded for Starks and now this.

I have both Starks and Tolbert.
