ESPN question......

Recommended Posts

Question for you guys that play in ESPN leagues. In a 14 team league and the commissioner had said the top 4 teams from each division make the playoffs. How ever when you look at the projected playoff brackets it does the 2 division winners as #1 and #2 seed then takes the next 6 best teams no matter what division.

PLAYOFF SEEDING & TIE-BREAKERS

When your league converts into playoff mode the system automatically generates a seed for each team in the league based on the regular season results. The seeds determine where the system places each team in the playoffs. The primary factors which determine seeds are:

Division Winner(s)

Winning Percentage

NOTE: In LM Leagues only, if your league's rules do not agree with the system tiebreaker rules described above the playoff seeds can easily be changed by the League Manager. To edit the playoff seeds/bracket simply go to the Playoff Matchups page and click on the "Edit" link.

The commissioner is trying to fix it but i do not think he can. I know this has come up in another ESPN league i was in. And the ESPN rules are kind of confusing because at some points it says, "ANY manual scoring adjustments (either before or during the playoffs) will NOT change where each team is placed in the playoffs." then it also says this, "However the League Manager has the ultimate power to edit each playoff matchup (and winner) by placing the any team wherever they want in the bracket. This said, each League Manager should carefully examine the View Playoffs page and use the Edit Playoffs page to make any necessary adjustments before the first-round of the playoffs begin."

Do any of you ESPN guys know if he can change it now?

Alright i meant to make that red but had to hit post because had to finish. I shortened it up.

Question is simple i just posted the rules which you did not have to read. Can you change ESPN playoff format so the top 4 from each division make playoffs???? The ESPN rules are confusing and i know it came up in another league in past.

Right now like the post says the Division winners get 1 and 2 seeds then the next highest win % no matter what division.

Once the playoff brackets are complete(after the regular season) the LM can then edit the bracket and put any teams in or any teams out.

So if ESPN has it set up with

-division winners

-next best %

Once the regular season is over he can take out the team with 8th best win % and put in a team who finished 4th in other division that had worst win %.

Thanks.

Correct. Once the regular season is over he can edit the playoff teams however he wants. This is only for the LM versions of ESPN.

We were toying with the idea of having our playoffs be best 5 records and then the 6th spot go to the highest points of the remaining teams, so I verified this would work one year after the regular season ended. Been league manager at ESPN for several years now.

The Commish can Edit the Playoff Bracket after the end of the games in your regular season. I have to every year.

Old thread, new question:

First time using ESPN. Six teams in playoffs, 1 & 2 got byes. 6 beat 3. 4 beat 5. Seems logical that lowest seed 6 should play #1 (and 2 vs. 4) But the way the brackets flow it shows the #1 playing the winner of the 4/5 match.

Is this how it always works on ESPN, or should the LM set the matchups by seeding throughout?

Your thoughts?

Unless you have previously stated that you will reseed after each round I'd say you should keep it in the bracket format that they set up for you.

Yeah, it should stay consistent with however the league did it last year. Just curious to hear how other ESPN LM's work here. Do your leagues stick with the default ESPN playoff brackets or do they edit the matchups to go by seeding each round?

I stated for our ESPN playoffs that "Top seed gets a bye in playoff week 1, then in Playoff Week 2 plays the lowest ranked team remaining from the first playoff week". I will manually adjust the matchups since I stated it that way. If not, leave it as ESPN set it and let it play out.

In my two leagues (six teams in playoffs) we stick with their bracket format. We give the sixth seed to the highest remaining point total so the sixth seed is often a more dangerous team than the 4/5 seeds. If we reseeded then it would very likely be a negative for the top seed.

This is how our league does it also!!
