Planned Parenthood reports

right, but how? we're currently using the "shame" tactic and the govt tactic regarding guns. i'm sure you'd agree. i was just proposing turning the tactics toward the abortion front. disregarding that it goes against the platform of the left, would it work?

I certainly wouldn't hurt. I'd start with pushing for a 'waiting period' just like with pistols, and then push for requiring counseling. One other suggestion... if you want to persuade people, you need to do so using their own language. Once someone says 'murdering babies', many people stop listening.

i also agree with you here. prolly can't wait too long with a baby, but it would be good to get a first appointment, then be required to wait a few days. planned parenthood and the leftists would never agree to a cooling off period, but it would be a great step forward if they could. by this time though, if they agree not to abort, we already have an unwanted baby situation. i'd prefer not to get to this point. i also agree with the phrasing, hence the huge over-reaction by the gun buyers when the leftists use that same language on gun owners. there are over a million high-capacity magazines on order right now that can't be fulfilled.

I know you'll disagree, but I think a large percentage of Americans think unfavorably of abortion. Nobody wants to get an abortion. Do some people use it to repair irresponsible decisions? Yeah, and I don't think too highly of those folks. But nobody is gettin' down and thinking....if we get pregnant, we'll just get an abortion. People just think they won't get pregnant.

I think American attitudes on the subject aren't in lockstep with the law. As Newbie has explained, and which I totally agree, pro-choice is different than pro-abortion. But we recognize that to make it illegal is to make ourselves more like other oppressive cultures. Look at Middle Eastern attitudes toward women and look at their abortion laws. No coincidence that most industrial nations favor a woman's right to choose, and most nations who oppress women don't.

I wish there were fewer abortions too. Dunno how to go about changing it though. If it does change, I would rather see it come from the bottom-up, rather than from the top-down.

Here's one idea to reduce abortion... free contraceptives. It would actually be a budget positive measure, as millions of fewer children would need to be educated, Fed, foster care, and eventual incarceration. It would lower crime. It would prevent untold misery. But of course, the right would never have that. Ever.

22 states already require a waiting period, and 27 require some form of counseling. 11 states make an ultrasound mandatory.

I tend to agree with this. A woman who is pregnant and wants an abortion will get one even if adoption is promoted and encouraged. If pregnancy is averted in the first place, abortion will be reduced.

It's really a different subject, but free contraceptives would have less effect on abortion rates than it would on the amount of people living in poverty in the USA, and the associated societal ills that you mentioned. Combine that with reducing the monetary incentive to have kids, and then real progress might be made.

This one confuses me. I realize many see FL as an ass backwards state, but where I live, we have government run health clinics. I believe they provide free condoms as one of their services. I could be wrong as I use these facilities for my medical care, but I believe I'm right.

If I am right, then we already offer free contraceptives. Clearly this measure isn't working, but is this not common in other states?
