KSB2424 3,148 Posted May 20, 2015 I help a friend with a charity golf tourney in fact it's next week.Keep in mind this is a beer drinkin' hell raising crew so these ideas may not be suitable. 1.Eye candy in golf carts loaded with coolers of cold beer, the charity gets the beer money they get the tips,a few of our girls are even willing to flash some boobage and do pretty good in tips..Our course we use actually sells us the beer right there because I doubt you'll find a distributor to donate but I could be wrong. 2.We rent a dunk tank and get a hottie to sit in it and charge $20 for 5 chances to dunk her, after a few beers it's amazing to see how many guys line up for this. 3.Print a flyer explaining your reason for the charity (I think a pic of the friend's wife would be good to have on it) and take to local businesses for raffle donations, you'll be shocked how many people will say yes. Lastly and no we did not do this but another good friend of mine said he went to a similar tourney one time and at one of the back holes there was a girl who would get nekkid and straddle the hole for $20 per golfer for a chance to putt. Good luck. While that sounds fun, this is more of a family type event. There will be a beer cart and whatnot, but not quite that kind of party. With that said, please let me know your next event. I may fly out for that.
BunnysBastatrds 2,534 Posted May 20, 2015 Me likey. Anything fun, that the golfers will like, that can make extra dough is what I'm looking for. I play in a scramble every year that a good friend runs in his dads name for Children's Hospital. He and his sister have been running it for ten plus years and they have it down to a science. I've sat in on some of their meetings just to see the amount of work that goes into it. They have a waiting list for every year it's so popular. A few observations. They go to well established business's like Academy Sports, 's Sports, Cabela's, and usually get them to donate what they are willing to. Same with restaurants, chain and local. Makes them look good. Hotels are usually good also for a nights stay. You can also contact the local sports teams and see if they would want to donate merchandise (hats and shirts). Bllody Mary's: They are cheap and easy to make. People love to drink on the course and starting off with a bloody mary when you check in is a good way for them to spend money there. Strippers: Or Hooters/Twin Peaks girls on one hole. They liven the place up. Don't do golf shirts. I've played in hundreds of scrambles and don't have one that was in the diddy bag. Waste of money. Definitely do mulligans. $5 is nothing to most golfers. And those that don't play much like having them. Since your's is a small tournament, see if you can make a deal with the pro shop at the course for first and second place prizes. A gift card for each of them at the pro shop. Don't charge more than $125. And if it's a meh course, no more than $100. I don't want to pay $125 to play at the goat ranch no matter what the cause. There may be more. WhiteWonder 2,855 Posted May 20, 2015 Seriously consider the putting contest. If you have 72 golfers and even half of them do it that's 360. At that point you could have the ultimate winner get a 100 dollar gift card to golf galaxy or something... I didn't read the whole thread so I don't know I lf yure doing this at a country club where they might offer to donate a gift cert to the pro shop. But people really seem to like doing the initial contest during their round and they LOVE getting their name called to go out for the final round putt off in front of everyone for the prize And to expand, as in said before everyone who made the initial 10-15 footer goes out for 1 lag putt. Everyone turns their back to the green so they can't get a read and someone working the contest puts a marker down and moves that marker if the next person gets closer. edjr 6,724 Posted May 20, 2015 I won a putting contest last year (just one putt per person).. at a scramble, was in september. at once of the more pricey courses around. (Ferncroft) Was something one of my vendors put on, so it was free. free booze too! 100 gift card. they didnt have anything in stock at the time. Went last weekend to cash it in, got a pair of golf shoes that cost 150, that were 80 at golfers warehouse. meh, saved 30 bucks I guess.

I like, maybe do this at the turn from 18 to 1. (Shotgun start) It's at a local country club and the practice green is by hole #1 so.....
Cloaca du jour 2,152 Posted May 21, 2015 Tl;dr If you can get a quote for insurance...you can offer a car for a hole in one. I like acrambles and tourneys that pay a couple random places...like 22 nd and 9 th. To be drawn at random. You will have groups of semi pros that travel to these to clean up on prizes. We always set up stations on par 3 s. 5 bucks to win 10 if you get it on the green. Most peeps just tell you to keep the cash. We always had sleeves of balls donated so guys could have a sleeve instead of the cash. Big moneymaker. Chinese auctions are huge also...hit up places to get donations to make baskets...see if you can hit up some local Bnb or casinos for hotel stay packages..or some doctor to donate some game tickets. A couple big ticket items are awesome. Easy money. 50/ 50 raffles are good...usually for a charity they just give the money back to the charity. Dont forget dentists...they love doing charity stuff to gain new customers. Pinterest is full of ideas for sure. Get some peeps to help, you cant do it on your own. Dont cold call...go in person with a letter explaining whats going on to easy to turn down a phone call. check some of the restaurants and places where your friend was a regular patron. Golf pro sessions Always look for a hook when asking for items...something that can lead to new business for them..like free lessons...free service of some kind. Signs and more signs...promoting your sponsors at each hole. Hell. Sell the signs for 50 bucks tees and greens...find a sign maker..they are cheap. Good luck and pray for good weather. KSB2424 3,148 Posted May 21, 2015 Good luck and pray for good weather. Thanks for the tips. This was an "oh snap" moment for me though. What are normal contingency plans if it's pouring rain?

WhiteWonder 2,855 Posted May 21, 2015 shotgun starts at 1 are the best, grilled lunch before hand, time for guys to use the practice range.... need to have a rain date in your back pocket.
Cloaca du jour 2,152 Posted August 8, 2015 So how did it go?
BunnysBastatrds 2,534 Posted August 8, 2015 Buddy of mine does a children's hospital tourney every year. He did something new this year. You get everyone to sign a golf ball and pay five bucks. He has a sky lift and positioned it directly above the practice green. He puts all the balls in a bucket over the practice green and releases them. Closest to or in the hole wins 60% of the pot. Very cool.
KSB2424 3,148 Posted August 8, 2015 So how did it go?It went really well. We had 18 hole sponsors from local businesses. And we did an extra fun thing on the signature par 3 that was similar to things mentioned here. That raised a little bit extra. Ended up with 24 teams (96 golfers). We also had a raffle and dinner. Ended up raising 15K. It didn't rain but it was like 97 and hot as balls. Lots of water and beer was consumed. I was glad when it was over though it's way more work than I thought. I played awful. Last thing on my mind was golf. my phone was going off the whole round.
