I know it's really popular to hate on the guy, But the fact that he went from A contestant on Food Network Star To being one of the major Staples of the network Is pretty damn impressive.

 

In all fairness, He reminds me of Jessica Simpson. Total nobody Who ended up having a billion-dollar merchandise line. Yeah, she may Market 2 Lower white common folk, But you can't argue With her success.

That is where I'm going to have to disagree with you. Tony Is a thinking man's Travel and food host. Yeah, He is bitter and snarky But I like that. Anybody who hates Rachel Ray is ok in my book.

 

His show is pretty fascinating. His show on escaping Lebanon in 2006 actually won awards.

 

With him, it isn't some phony Oh my God these are the best french fries ever! I enjoy his Social commentary. He really brings Countries and places To the audience.

 

But I would never be One of his guests. It says a lot about The importance Of his show And his producers ability to spot Really newsworthy people.He did a show in Russia with an opposition opponent Who very shortly thereafter got assassinated. And, he did a show in Iran Where Jason Rezlan Was his guest And Jason was imprisoned shortly there after. He was one of the guys was just recently freed.

 

Most travel and food shows Are nothing more than Mindless brain fluff. And there's definitely a place for that. Butt Bourdain Goes above and beyond that level.

What you are talking about is what I mean about softened.

 

In the late '90s when he came out blasting TV chefs and said Emeril Lagasse couldn't really cook he lost all crediability. Go after Rachel Ray, Guy Fieri, Paula Dean fine but Emeril? That is simple ignorance or stupidity from a man holding himself out as a Chef. He has become what he despised then, a marginal chef that is making a fortune as a TV "Chef" that doesn't cook.

 

The travel stuff he does is good. It would be better if he didn't talk.
