Wildcard Weekend - Raiders at Texans: In-Game Discussion

Recommended Posts

I've been wrong and I am an insane focking Raider homer.

Dude stop. You predict every focking new Raider to go to the focking HOF. First Amari, now Cook?

Yes it is, kid came from a Pro system in college and has all the physical tools. Cannon for an arm lightning release good speed with 4.79 forty time. I think when it's all said and done he's going to end up being the better quarterback out of all of them.

Not for the Raiders. So unlikely at all.

You put Wentz, or Prescott or Goff in that situation yesterday- playoff pressure, on road, NFLs top D, 3 days of practice experience, you're going to get similar results.

If you say so. Three days of practice experience? Wtf has he been doing for 5 months? Cook almost threw as many picks yesterday as Dak did all year. The same Dak who accounted for 29 TD'S.

You're unbelievably bias & way off here.

I'm not biased, I've been watching this team lose with practicality for the last 15 years. If you've been around here for any length of time, you'd know I'm pretty straight forward about my team.

Look, this kid started the season as the #3 QB, which means during the year he ran the scout team in practice and was inactive for game days. It's been documented that Carr got probably 95% of practice reps, with McGloin getting the other five. With CBA practice rules you simply have to get your starter all the work. Even more so because of Carr's development.

In Week 16, when Carr broke his fibula, they finally activated Cook to the active 47 man roster. Since the plan was to start McGloin against Denver, Cook got zero reps in practice that week. When McGloin got hurt, he entered the game and was running plays he'd never ran in a live practice before.

He DID get all the practice reps last week, but Monday was a walk thru and with the Saturday game Friday was a travel day. The kid's had three days of regular season practice. Not offering excuses, but I mean, what can you do? It is what it is. The CBA is very strict on the amount of practice teams can do, so it's not like they could've ran all nighters to get him ready, like they would in the old days.

I'm not sure Dallas has faced a defense as good as Houston's all year.

Wow, you're even more prissy today than usual. Seeing the state of your team, I can empathize. Seriously, sorry dude.

BTW, Coop just went over 1,000 yards twice for his first two years in the league. Something no Raider WR has ever done. Cliff Branch, Biletnikoff, Tim Brown, nobody. But you knew that didn't you?

Cooper will be fine...I think a bona-fide Top 10 WR the next 6-8 years especially with Carr throwing to him.

Cook will be a career backup QB. There's a reason he slipped in the draft, his piss poor attitude.

Dallas played NY. Twice. Lost both games. Cook would've too.

I agree. Prescott and Wentz win their class with personality and leadership skills, as well as their talent on the field. Sure, they were both afforded a greater opportunity to practice and demonstrate their productivity than Cook was - but why do you suppose that was? Hmmm...

I don't see anything to suggest that Cooper will be a bona fide top ten Wr.

He was awful his last ten plus game, including his playoff game.

I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt. He played only 3 years of college & is entering his 3rd season NFL season, he'll turn 23 in June.

He has shown potential but has hit "the wall" in both his pro seasons.

I hear you, but let's keep in perspective. We're not talking QB situations. Prescott had at least SOME work coming into the season. Plus he had Zeke Elliott behind that line. Connor Cook had three practices going into that game, minus Donald Penn at LT. But my take is Houston's defense is better than New York's.

People are killing this kid. But I'm telling you it's more about the situation and less about the player.

I would agree.

The young Qb was put into a tough situation.

Can't judge him based on a one game performance.

I agree Cook had little chance to prep for success. Nobody would argue that. But saying he's gonna be the QB from this draft is all kind of ridiculous. He's stuck behind a pro bowl caliber QB. He's not gonna see the light of day for years unless Carr turns out to be fragile.

I said 'when it's all said and done.' I see a situation here not unlike Cincinnati's with McCarron, who they are talking about dealing. If Oakland drafts another QB this year that will tell us a lot.

Prescott has done a great job, the Dallas staff has done a great job with him.

There will be at least one extra Qb to draft , we all know the Browns aren't interested.

Mick do you find it interesting that the Raiders are moving away from their current OC?

Based on the success they had this past season.

Check my post in the other thread Paws. Yeah, I get it's a funny post NOW. But I've never been leery of having bold takes when it comes to the Raiders.

Edit: Most Raider fans disapprove of this move, feeling continuity is more important to a young QB like Carr. There was some brilliance in the schemes Musgrave ran, but he did have some head scratching moments as well. I know for a fact JDR has publicly called out the play calling. Most recently in the Denver game, which was probably the biggest football game involving the Raiders since 2002.

Carr covered for a lot in that offense, once he went down Musgrave's shortcomings were exposed badly. Also go back to the Indy game. When Carr went down the TV cameras panned to Mark Davis' owners box. He was visibly upset and seen to be mouthing the words, "why the fock are we passing there!!!" Never good to have the owner pissed at you.

Personally I'm ok with it. Carr is ready to advance to the next level as a student of the game, and will be heavily involved in game planning and schemes next year.
