All the talk regarding EVs never seem to clearly illustrate what you end up paying to recharge. Another large cost savings to include in this is things like tuneups, oil changes, break pads, transmissions etc. Most of these are not a thing in these cars or greatly have reduced wear and tear. I just edited my other post to ask what you ended up paying for charging on your trip to/from Idaho. That would be a good example when you take out variables like home charging / free at work charging.

IIRC it was about 70 dollars for that trip (Seattle to Coeur d’Alene) used all the Type 2 Superchargers along route and plugged in at the hotel which was free. Drove to Spokane area as well and golfed around there (Circling Raven…very sweet) then out to CdA and back home.

thegeneral 2,908 Posted May 10, 2023 Also @DonS if you are kinda looking around at this my buddy bought the VW one that just came out. Still has the full rebate and he got a couple years free charging at Electrify America network I believe. Lots of incentives out there from The various makers right now. I rode in his car and is quite nice.

Nobody wants to discuss the hazards of Lithium, whether it's disposal or mining I posted on the first page, but will type out again. The majority of charging happens during offpeak hours and once we get enough electric cars on the road they will actually help stabilize the grid. You can find my previous link if you are interested. As for the second part, mining in general is much more environmentally friendly than people give it credit for. Although in this case lithium is generally not mined but pumped out of wells using a brine extraction method. The processing of the rare earths is the environmentally unfriendly part of the battery production, even though they typically make up a small percentage of the batteries overall content. TBayXXXVII 2,483 Posted May 10, 2023 The push for EV's will result in the same thing that every other liberal pushed venture... being worse than what was in existence causing more problems down the road. As a prime example, see paper vs plastic.

Replaced our 18 y/o minivan with a CR-V Hybrid last year as we still needed something with a decent amount of cargo space. This year we replaced our 9 year old Accord with a Civic hatchback. Both of these will last us awhile as they have great gas mileage and up to date features -- thank you Little Baby Jesus for adaptive cruise control. Will need to revisit once the Great Washington State Ban on Sales of Gas Powered Vehicles takes effect in 2035 though. (Or else we'll simply get newer ICE vehicles around 2034.) They still have hydraulic brakes. With regenerative braking they will last longer but still need replacing. My model Y does have a transmission as well. Still waaaay less things to go wrong. Right the regen breaking allows beak pads to last a long time (I very rarely touch brakes if I am paying any attention) and the transmission, or tranny as I know is the preferred term around this site, is much less complex. Do the positives outweigh the negatives as far as "saving the Planet"? Liberals are the supposed to be the party that's going to save the Planet. There's nothing worse than the effects of mining and disposing of Lithium. Nobody talks about that but they want you to go full EV, still with no plan. And Democrats never question, they just take it for gospel and go with whatever they're told.
