Mike Honcho 5,270 Posted August 25, 2023 Got the alert on my phone advising me to head for a basement or shelter immediately---and then did the opposite of what it said and went out on my porch to see what was happening. I have never seen a tornado, IRL, so I wanted to take a look. It was a violent storm, but the most I see in my neighborhood is some small branches blowing around and a lawn chair knocked over. I never lost power and was getting ready for work when I started getting text after text. Power is off at the office, won't be restored until 1:45 AM! So an extra day off, but I had to go into the office to pick up some stuff. That is when I saw all the damage. I saw multiple trees completely ripped out of the ground, and some split in half. Just checked the outage map and half of the city doesn't have power right now. Strangely, I'm in a 3 block x 3 block island of power completely surrounded by outages. Picture is of a tree & house I pass by on my way to work everyday about a quarter mile away.
weepaws 3,191 Posted August 25, 2023 Grandparents own a big farm in a little town called star city in Arkansas, would go there in the summer time to hang out with lots, and lots of family, help work the farm , take it weekend Rodeo good times, while doing this we where hit four different summers with tornadoes, it’s amazing how much destruction they cause when you see the it in person. kilroy69 1,248 Posted August 25, 2023 We had 80 mile wind gusts here in lower michigan and the storm that blew it in was something I had never seen before. The sky looked like a strobe light .

There are over 300K people without power, I think the tornadoes scored a lot more than 7.
BunnysBastatrds 2,439 Posted August 26, 2023 Bad joke time… What does a tornado and an attorney have in common? A double wide.
patweisers44 845 Posted August 26, 2023 Had heavy flooding in the area from Wednesday storms already. Thursday tornado, according to NWS, touched down a half mile NW of my house and dissipated about a quarter mile SE of me. It got pretty close on its path, but thankfully i am just without power and nothing worse. Some real end of days shiot going on around me. A privately owned, Russian MIG appearing in an airshow, crashed just a few miles from me a couple weeks ago.
