I am not a Socialist, nor do I support Socialist policies outside of Social Security and Medicare (which are overwhelmingly popular with most Americans if polls are to be believed).

Is Social Security a socialist program?  I never thought of it as such.  We pay into it as we work, then get money back when we retire.  I know that in practice it doesn't work that way -- the government can't help itself and spends the money put in, then borrows to pay out.  And we need to increase the age of access for it to remain solvent.  But I don't think the underlying concept is socialist. 

Medicare I need to learn more about, unfortunately.  I know that it costs money to get it (at least if I were to get it), so it isn't completely an entitlement.
