****Happy Football Day Week 10****

Recommended Posts

This game against the Chargers on the road is a big one for the Lions. If you want to be considered an elite team instead of a very good one, you have to win games like this or the Chiefs when missing two top stars. The Chargers have had issues defending the pass since they play in the AFC but playing against the scrub Jets and Bears backup QBs have helped with their numbers lately. These guys are inconsistent but on a good day can play with the best of them plus it's in LA.

The Lions are mostly healthy coming off the bye. Finally. Moseley, of course, is out for the year. CJGJ may be too, although he insists a late season return is possible. James Houston, their best pass rusher opposite Hutchinson, has been gone since week two, won't be back until December, and has been deeply missed. Brad Holmes did next to nothing at the trade deadline, he sent a 2025 6th round pick to Cleveland to bring in a big bodies WR that the Browns weren't using very much.

Thanks to an assist from a weak schedule, the Lions have a very good chance at landing the #1 playoff seed, bye week, and home field advantage. They probably need 13 wins to get there, so games like this need to be won. I keep wishing death on the Eagles, it's only worked one time, what happens instead is that they keep pissing me off by pulling close games out of their asses. By comparison, I've had more success with wishing death on the 49ers lately. Both teams have a much tougher schedule the rest of the way than Detroit. If the 49ers are to catch the Lions for the 2nd seed, they'll have their work cut out for them.

Thank you Jets, Bengals, Vikings, and Browns.

As someone with some dynasty exposure to Cedric Tillman, I was happy with that. Cooper not getting any younger, Elijah Moore is a good WR who will never be a #1. Hoping it opens up more playing time and targets for Tillman. He was a 3rd round selection after JSN and Mingo.

Jets facing a must win.  Last week didn't feel like a must win but now that loss has made this game against LV very important. Lose this and you fall to 4-5 with Buffalo and Miami on tap. If you can't find a way to split those and are sitting at 4-7, I worry about locker room discontent and a repeat of "Mike F'ing White" in the form of "Trevor F'ing Semien" which was ridiculous to begin with.

However, win this game and fine a way to split the next two and 6-5 would look really good with Atlanta and Houston on tap. both teams playing relatively well but both games that a team with the Jets relative talent should be able to beat.

Lions Rooting guide for the 1:00 games... would like the Jags to continue the pain infliction on the 49ers because I like when the tough teams jockeying for NFC division championship positions collect Ls. Vikings vs Saints is a tough one. Despite all their significant injuries and despite picking up two losses in games they should have won, the Vikings aren't sufficiently dead within the division yet.  Meanwhile, the Saints only have four losses as well. While the Lions are 3-0 vs the NFC South, the one team they haven't played yet, and so don't have a tiebreaker over, is the Saints.

For the 4:00 games, being two games and a tiebreaker behind Philly, what Dallas does or doesn't do in their quest for a wildcard spot is of no concern. Seattle does matter. If they somehow win that division, they also hold a tiebreaker against Detroit, so as I often have this year, I find myself pulling for Washington.

----

What happens in the AFC is crucially important to those teams but doesn't matter terribly much to the Lions. On their march to the playoffs over there, whatever help they can provide against SF, Sea, and Philly is appreciated. So, rooting for the Jags this week and the Chiefs next week. If the Lions are fortunate enough to get to the Super Bowl this year, please don't let it be a re-match against the Ravens. Someone please knock them out, that team scares the bejeebers out of me.

Ravens already up a TD on a pick-six and I haven't even gotten my head on straight.

Down 10-0 and a fumble at mid-field I was ready to give up on the Jags, but a hold and a FG drive that started from the 1 yard line and they are back to 10-3 and faith is restored. See how badly hurt Bosa is.

How is Dobbs playing so well, like he's been there the whole time? No wonder AZ got rid of him can't tank with a QB this good.

So many turnovers for the Jags. Just when you think they might do something, the bottom falls out on them. Even worse than winning, it looks like the 49ers of the first 5 weeks are back.

Meanwhile, the Vikings look for real.

Houston with an INT. They've got this one. Another team that looks legit with a sold win.

I thought I'd written the obituary on this game.... up ten with the ball and like 4 minutes left ... an INT, a Bengals TD and stop, and they are just a FG down. Huge play. OMG.

And if you wrothe the obituary on the Browns, you also were premature. The AFC North games are insane.

There's the end for NO, got an INT pushing too hard for the TD. See if Cleveland can pull off the huge upset.
