I understand their reasoning was different but the principle was the same. 

If the government you have is making your life worse, instead of better, you have the right to form a new government either by altering the current one, via voting, or abolishing it if voting won't solve the problem. 

The South chose the latter and fought for their right to throw off the government they felt was not providing guards for their future security.

Care to elaborate? I've heard and believed these rumors but never from someone directly involved.

I can’t say too much about it.  A client of mine tried to complete a financial transaction at the last minute on Sept. 10th.  Thing is, I had been trying for 3 years to get them to do it, and they had no interest at all.  Then at 3:00 on that Monday the 10th they absolutely have to do it by 5:00.  It was so strange that I actually made note of it to the people around me, mostly because I was annoyed and was having trouble getting it done.  I had the authority to do the deal, but my instincts told me not to.  I came in on Tuesday morning the 11th to finalize the deal and then all hell broke loose.  It didn’t dawn on me until later that night that my client would have made millions had I done the deal.  The client was a well-connected Tech company with ownership ties to Israel.  I reported it to the FBI.  They were very interested, even talked to other folks in the office to corroborate the story.  I never heard back from them.  I never heard from the client again either.  They left our company a few months later.
