Yeah, I remember Saints being a good poster for quite some time. Then poof, he changed. Reading what he’s posting now is very peculiar.

I joined Fawk Butt Gheys many years ago, a decade plus years ago. I went there as tchoupitoulas. I quit after less than a week getting banned for writing that this place needs helmets for the ones you love. And I never ever went back again. The cascades of post responses were beyond tardnation.Notice here that you respond to a post and you then post on your own. Don’t need the other phaggots to hold your hand? It’s on you. I knew that place would eventually go down like Ellen on a brownie.

The Harris honeymoon is ending, and people are reminded that she was a terrible candidate before the coup that put her in the nomination.  She is trying to be Solomon splitting the baby with her flip flopping positions on fracking, the border, etc., and it ends up she is pleasing no one.  HTH

I've often pimped the Freakonomics podcast here, and will again.  They just posted a two-part series on the president, dictatorship, and how to predict the election.

https://freakonomics.com/podcast/has-the-u-s-presidency-become-a-dictatorship-update/

The host, Stephen Dubner, is definitely NOT a fan of Trump.  His pods rarely get into politics tho, and even these were more academic than partisan.

The first was a replay/update of one they did in 2016 before Trump was elected.  One of the main guests is a legal historian and U of Chicago professor, who talked about how the office of POTUS has amassed a lot more power than the Founders envisioned.  He was actually quite critical of Obama and his selective law enforcement or lack thereof.  The second one was primarily about betting markets for the election (also very interesting), but Dubner talked to the same professor about the risk of Trump becoming somethin of a dictator.

The professor's opinion was... not really a risk.  His reasoning is that to be a dictator, you need to be disciplined and organized, which isn't Trump.

I agree with this too. As I tried to explain in the OP, I’m more concerned about the effects of Trump’s policies, most of which I pretty strongly disapprove of, than I am about his threat to democracy. On the other hand his friendship and emulation of Viktor Orban is a bit unnerving.

@jerryskids I completely disagree with your opinion of Kamala Harris and your estimation of her abilities. But I find your analysis of Trump to be more reasonable and fairly compelling. If he wins I certainly hope your comment to me about the tariffs turns out to be accurate.

I’m taking one of your balls when you lose.

Hmmm…ok. You can have the left one. It hangs a half inch longer than the right. But only if you promise to stir fry it and eat it with a nice chianti.

I understand your position; my post (the second part) was in response to Saints and the simplistic belief that Trump is just going to become a dictator.  I've explained numerous times how inane that is, so I won't rehash it.

Kamala may very well be intelligent.  After all, she graduated law school and passed the bar.  But she is a terrible communicator, inspires no confidence, and if we are to believe her current positions, has abandoned everything she has historically claimed to care about.

Hate Trump all you want, but he tells you what he thinks.

Yeah, I'm not doing this stupid back and forth BS with you.  You know damn well what I meant with all the ridiculous charges.  No one is going to buy your nonsense.  You went off the deep end at FBG several years ago.   Trump broke you.

We could list them all out here, and probably should. They got FBGs to ban all political discussion and will probably do the same here.  They whine and cry and mash the report button. Mike will get sick of it just like Joe did, eventually. It's pathetic.

7. The argument over climate change will be unaffected because there’s not much difference in policy between the two parties. Harris’ current views on fracking represents a truth that liberals will never admit: no matter how bad climate change gets we will never try to fight it by punishing big industry and the consumer. It will never happen. At some point some President is going to wake up and propose a huge investment into nuclear energy, and particularly nuclear fusion. If that’s Trump then despite everything else he could still go down as one of our greatest Presidents.

I just sat through a webinar from the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) on the state of the art development in this area.  They still have a long way to go, but some breakthroughs in magnetic technologies in the past few years have led to enough potential viability to create 40 startups and $8B in private investment.

That said, I believe that this technology warrants government investment.  It is very difficult to do pure research in the commercial sector, since investors want returns next quarter.  I hope we do it.  Perhaps we could get Elon interested in it?  It could be Trump's equivalent of JFK's space race.

They mentioned a quote from the poet Edward Young in the webinar, which is inscribed in the Jefferson building of the Library of Congress:  "Too low they build, who build beneath the stars."
