Twice in my life I've experienced a struggle to breathe because I was laughing so hard. One was sitting in the East Detroit High school cafeteria with my friends, Pistons fans all, the day after Len Bias died. Pistons fans in the 80s despised the Celtics and teenagers can be horrible. I was there first and I see my friend Bill walk up to the table with a big smile on his face. The lunch period starts with him saying "What happened to Len Bias was tragic and all, but you've got to admit... it couldn't have happened to a better team." Oh, we were vile. We'd wished Bird had gotten high, McHale had inhaled, Parrish had perished.

I'll tell you what though, when Kevin McHale's daughter died a few years ago, I felt bad for him. It occurs to me that I don't hate the 80s Celtics anymore, nor the 90s-00s Colorado Avalanche. Ohio State though, there's just never been a time for that to fade. Michigan and Ohio State have been 1-2 or 2-1 in the Big Ten all my life. (Penn State is perennially 3rd place, losing to both, and who care's. With this NIL and portal bullsh*t and the PacTen collapsing and so many kids skipping Bowl games, I'm worried college football is ruining itself)
