There are a lot of black people in St. Louis and KC, many of which are presumably (I don't know for sure) living in close proximity to each other. But yet, no majority black districts. Thanks for your response, and sorry to drag you into a conversation you probably would rather avoid, being a decent human being and all. that's ok, I'm just trying to comprehend your point and not sure I'm understanding. I think you also have to remember Missouri was a slave state, so when the state was in its infancy not many people of color settled here and I think that influences our demographics (probably whiter than a lot of other states). Emmanuel Cleaver, a black Democrats represents the 5th Congressional District with a demographic of: Race and Ethnicity The 3 largest ethnic groups in Congressional District 5, MO White (Non-Hispanic) 455k ± 2.84k Black or African American (Non-Hispanic) 169k ± 2.03k Two Races Excluding Other, & Three or More Races (Non-Hispanic) 29.2k ± 1.92k

The rest are held by white Republicans and serve mostly rural communities with a large population of white people Diversity Race and Ethnicity The 3 largest ethnic groups in Congressional District 1, MO Black or African American (Non-Hispanic) 348k ± 2.72k White (Non-Hispanic) 315k ± 3.35k Two Races Excluding Other, & Three or More Races (Non-Hispanic) 27.1k ± 2.2k

That of course is technically true. But it is still a tool for voter suppression, illustrated with the fact that there are no black Republicans in the house that represent majority black districts. My overarching point is that gerrymandering is wrong, regardless of which party is engaged in it. And the current actions being taken by boff sidez!! are just going to make the partisan rancor nastier.

That's the whole point of dividing the districts: to prevent (or at least decrease the chances of) black democrats from electing one.

I mean, more white people are voting for Cleaver than black people, if you look at the population demographics
cmh6476 1,052 Posted Friday at 07:45 PM I also don't know that it's a guarantee that just because you redistrict his district, Cleaver automatically loses. Especially if they end up with 2 sitting congressional members in a race against each other (Alford & Cleaver)

The GOP will figure it out.
