Did you ever hear of the secret CIA plan to replace all the poppy seeds in Afghanistan with ones that produced far less opium?

In the end it didn’t work out that well (link below)  

As for the Taliban, they originally cracked down HARD on poppies. But production moved to the south of the country where the Taliban is weaker, and even into parts of Pakistan
