Pentagon will begin review of 'effectiveness' of women in ground combat positions

Recommended Posts

The Pentagon is mounting a six-month review of women in ground combat jobs, to ensure what it calls the military "effectiveness" of having several thousand female soldiers and Marines in infantry, armor and artillery, according to a memo obtained by NPR.

Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel Anthony Tata wrote in a memo last month that the effort is to determine the "operational effectiveness of ground combat units 10 years after the Department lifted all remaining restrictions on women serving in combat roles."

Tata requested Army and Marine Corps leaders to provide data on the readiness, training, performance, casualties and command climate of ground combat units and personnel. The services are to provide points of contact no later than Jan. 15 to the Institute for Defense Analyses, a nonprofit corporation that assists the government on national security issues. The memo says the data should include "all available metrics describing that individual's readiness and ability to deploy (including physical, medical, and other measures of ability to deploy.)"

When measuring physical fitness, women and men should have different PT standards and scores. That was accepted practice when I was in and no one saw anything wrong with it.

At that time, women were barred from the combat fields. I didn't mind that but I can understand the objection. Consequently, I don't mind allowing women in those fields if they can meet the physical standards. Let them have it. But don't lower the entry standards to make it easier for them just because you feel obligated to have some sort of quota. Anyone who can run, carry their share of heavy sh*t, and not be a burden on the rest of the crew (because the standards were lowered to meet gender goals unrelated to operation excellence), and not feel entitled to special treatment or privileges is welcome IMO.

Just asking, but don’t they lower the standards for woman to become firefighters or police officers?

When it comes to the combat roles, men and women ARE held to the same standards. The gender-specific fitness standards are for those in non-combat roles.

Hegseth doesn’t get this or maybe just doesn’t care.

Quite the opposite. Non-combat roles are for those who can't meet specific fitness standard. Your role is determined there

Uh no.

The various branches have fitness standards that apply to all soldiers, marines, airmen, sailors... They are gender-specific and adjusted for age. Combat role fitness standards are gender-neutral.

Quote

Of all soldiers serving in combat units in the Army, women make up a small fraction: A total of some 3,800 women serve in infantry, armor and artillery. Among them are more than 150 women who completed the arduous Ranger training. A small number of women — around 10 or so — passed Green Beret training. The Marines have about 700 females in these ground combat jobs. And in all these jobs, women must meet the same standards as their male counterparts.

I thought this was well-known information. I guess not.

He’s catholic, so that depends on their age, he likes to dominate the young ones, but can’t handle a woman.  Just ask his ex.
