You ought to have three in each category except Wildcard with six.

Once all seven of us have finished, we can drop our leftover names into 90sbaby and wrap this up.

shotsup more than a few

I believe ZeroT, TBBOM, and myself are done.

If you want/need help, just ask.

Got any ideas for to fill out my scientist categories?

You ought to have three in each category except Wildcard with six.

Once all seven of us have finished, we can drop our leftover names into 90sbaby and wrap this up.

If you want/need help, just ask.

I'm trying to figure out which categories still have open slots. I drafted Daniel Boone (5th round?) But he isn't listed in my Explorer/Settler category. I know I have a couple of Actor/Director slots and I think I have 1 woman slot open. I'm a little fuzzy on the rest. I'll get it figured out and finish up.

Wilma Rudolph - Woman

Wilma Glodean Rudolph (June 23, 1940 – November 12, 1994) was an American sprinterfrom Clarksville, Tennessee, who became a world-record-holding Olympic champion and international sports icon in track and field following her successes in the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games. Rudolph competed in the 200-meter dash and won a bronze medal in the 4 × 100-meter relay at the 1956 Summer Olympics at MelbourneAustralia. She also won three gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter individual events and the 4 x 100-meter relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics in RomeItaly. Rudolph was acclaimed the fastest woman in the world in the 1960s and became the first American woman, to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Games. Due to the worldwide television coverage of the 1960 Summer Olympics, Rudolph became an international star along with other Olympic athletes such as Cassius Clay (later known as Muhammad Ali), Oscar Robertson, and Rafer Johnson who competed in Italy.

Ronald Wayne - Dumbfock/Fail

Ronald Wayne was the third co-founder and 10 percent shareholder of Apple Computer. In April 1976, Wayne decided to sell his stake for a mere $800. Had he held onto to it, that 10 percent stake would today be worth a staggering $63 billion.

Thanks for all the hard work on this Volty. It was a PITA just to keep track of my own picks, I couldn't imagine putting in all the time you obviously did to keep this thing on track. Bang up job as usual.

Also, an honorable mention to ZT for helping to keep things organized while Volty was down.

Court case U.S. vs. AT&T

At the time, this was a huge deal.  Do you remember when you used to have to pay by the minute for long distance calls via a landline?

The breakup of the Bell System was mandated on January 8, 1982, by an agreed consent decree providing that AT&T Corporation would, as had been initially proposed by AT&T, relinquish control of the Bell Operating Companies that had provided local telephone service in the United States and Canada up until that point.[1] This effectively took the monopoly that was the Bell System and split it into entirely separate companies that would continue to provide telephone service. AT&T would continue to be a provider of long distance service, while the now-independent Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) would provide local service, and would no longer be directly supplied with equipment from AT&T subsidiary Western Electric.

This divestiture was initiated by the filing in 1974 by the United States Department of Justice of an antitrust lawsuit against AT&T.[2] AT&T was, at the time, the sole provider of telephone service throughout most of the United States. Furthermore, most telephonic equipment in the United States was produced by its subsidiary, Western Electric. This vertical integration led AT&T to have almost total control over communication technology in the country, which led to the antitrust case, United States v. AT&T. The plaintiff in the court complaint asked the court to order AT&T to divest ownership of Western Electric.[3]

Feeling that it was about to lose the suit, AT&T proposed an alternative — the breakup of the biggest corporation in American history. It proposed that it retain control of Western Electric, Yellow Pages, the Bell trademark, Bell Labs, and AT&T Long Distance. It also proposed that it be freed from a 1956 antitrust consent decree, then administered by Judge Vincent Pasquale Biunno in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, that barred it from participating in the general sale of computers.[4] In return, it proposed to give up ownership of the local operating companies. This last concession, it argued, would achieve the Government's goal of creating competition in supplying telephone equipment and supplies to the operative companies. The settlement was finalized on January 8, 1982, with some changes ordered by the decree court: the regional holding companies got the Bell trademark, Yellow Pages, and about half of Bell Labs.

Effective January 1, 1984, the Bell System’s many member companies were variously merged into seven independent "Regional Holding Companies", also known as Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs), or "Baby Bells". This divestiture reduced the book value of AT&T by approximately 70%.

Old West - Sundance Kid aka Harry Longabaugh aka William Long

American criminal Sundance Kid, originally named Harry Longabaugh, was born in 1867 in Mont Clare, Pennsylvania. At age 15, he headed west and received his nickname when was arrested for stealing a horse in Sundance, Wyoming. After a couple of years in jail, Sundance Kid resumed a career in crime, robbing trains and banks. Named the Wild Bunch, he and his conspirators went on the longest crime spree in the history of the American West. Sundance Kid eventually fled to South America where he continued his life of crime. Historians disagree on his death with some citing a shootout in Bolivia on November 3, 1908 while others suggest he returned to the U.S. under the name William Long and lived there until 1936.

Ona "Oney" Judge Staines - Colonial Era

Escaped slave of George and Martha Washington.

Ona "Oney" Judge Staines served as personal servant to Martha Washingtonuntil she escaped from the President's Mansion in Philadelphia and relocated to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1796. Much is known of Judge's life in comparison to Washington's other slaves, as a result of newspaper interviews she gave in 1845 and 1847, as well as George Washington’s frustrated attempts to recover her after she ran away.

Born at Mount Vernon around 1773, Judge was the daughter of dower slave Betty and European-American tailor Andrew Judge. Like her mother, Judge was a skilled seamstress and by her own account was never taught to read or write while living at Mount Vernon, nor was she exposed to any religion.1 At age ten, Judge was incorporated into Mount Vernon's labor force, working in the Mansion. Always a personal favorite of Martha Washington's, Judge was one of the handful of slaves brought by George and Martha Washington to New York in 1789 and then to Philadelphia in 1790 at the start of the presidency. However, she was never kept in Pennsylvania for more than six months at a time to avoid establishing a legal residency that under Pennsylvania law (1780's An Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery) would free her from enslavement.2

Colonial - Chief Powhatan aka Wahunsenacawh

Powhatan (June 17, 1545[citation needed] – April 1618), whose proper name was Wahunsenacawh (alternately spelled WahunsenacahWahunsunacock or Wahunsonacock), was the paramount chief of Tsenacommacah, an alliance of Algonquian-speaking Virginia Indians in the Tidewater region of Virginia at the time English settlers landed at Jamestown in 1607.

Powhatan, alternately called "King" or "Chief" Powahatan by the English, led the main political and military power facing the early colonists, was probably the older brother of Opchanacanough, who led attacks against the English in 1622 and 1644. He was the father of Pocahontas, who eventually converted to Christianity and married the English colonist John Rolfe

Sorry. Things slip through the cracks. When I'd noticed mistakes/oversights on my own list, I'd always suspected there were others around.

Thinker - Yogi Berra

I remember watching a Yankeeography episode on him.  Someone tells a story about him being a terrible student.

Teacher:  Yogi, don't you know anything?

Yogi:  I don't even suspect anything.
