buffalobillsffl2003 0 Posted September 14, 2010 "Apparently the NFL doesn't like when tailgate parties turn into big things now...afraid that the tailgate parties are bigger events than the games. Last year, this guy from the NFL went after Oakland and shut down some of their biggest tailgate parties. This year, he's coming after us. Yesterday, at the Red Pinto Tailgate party, this guy threatened people with arrest if the bowling ball shots weren't stopped. He gave the impression that he'd keep harassing the Pinto crew all season till the tailgate party was basically shut down. Never mind the fact that the great tailgating is a major part of what keeps people coming to Bills games in light of the product on the field. This guy was threatening arrest on the basis of no liquor license, ignoring the fact that a liquor license is only needed when alcohol is sold, not given away. This all happened despite the best efforts of parking lot security and the sheriffs trying to dissuade the guy. What we heard was that they want the game to be the only event and when the tailgate parties become real big, they become events in themselves." Any other NFL cities find some Goodell brownshirt ordering the shutdown of tailgating parties? FuckgoodellheebandtheNFL.

Perhaps the NFL has noted that many fans, esp. the one with families, will no longer attend NFL games due to the problems that the drunks cause. The fans downing "bowling ball shots" before the game tend to be the ones throwing up, getting in brawls, and generally causing trouble during the game. Making games more family friendly might help with declining NFL attendance. And I expect the Bills would rather have fans spend $$$ in their stadium than eat and drink in the parking lot. buffalobillsffl2003 0 Posted September 15, 2010 Families can attend NFL games... just in San Francisco, Charlotte, Atlanta and possibly Tampa Bay. Maybe Nashville as well.
RLLD 3,455 Posted September 15, 2010 In the 90's didn't the GM of the Chiefs open up tailgating in order to generate more fans? Didn't that work extremely well? It seems odd to alienate fans when the NFL is increasing in popularity each year....
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted September 15, 2010 In NE, they have been trying to keep things under control for a while and it is as much for making sure that people don't start fights or drive drunk afterwards as anything else. You can have plenty of fun without things getting out of hand. I know that the NFL in Week 1 over the last couple of years has been going around and "grading" teams on how they are following policies outlined by the NFL for pre-game activities (how soon before the game the gates open, types of activities allowed, etc.). RoadLizard 73 Posted September 15, 2010 With all the technology and awesome TV coverage & huge flat screens there is little if any reason to actually go to a game anymore. Its a monumental waste of money and time. You cant even see the action and get stuck in some uncomfortable seat next to some jackhole and their drunk friends. Its a miserable environment, the bathrooms suck, the beer is $8 bucks a cup for Labatts crap, and the food is also WAY overpriced. No thanks. I'll stay home and be comfy, well fed, and happy. I envision a time when stadiums are just luxury suites and prime seats. The Bills could avoid these issues by simply signing some focking good players. Oh well. The teams (like the Patriots) have put in high-def screens and play the NFL Red zone during TV timeouts to make it better. Can't help with the price of beer ($7.50), but I am usually feeling just fine before heading into the stadium (food and drink-wise). The tailgate is a lot of fun and allows for a full day of fun without any nagging from the Mrs.

Families have no business attending NFL games. You want a rabid crowd, not full of 8 year old girls that you have to behave politely around. Fock families. If you take a kid to a game, you deserve to be vomitted on. NFL attendance is declining? How about not charging a thousand bucks a ticket and selling personal seat licenses like mortgages? BunnysBastatrds 1,936 Posted September 15, 2010 The exact opposite thing happend here in New Orleans. They opened the "Champions Square" right accross the street from the Dome. They were selling beer and mixed drinks for a fair (considering what they charge in the Dome) price. Just about everyone was wasted. If Goodell would have looked out of his luxury sweet, he would have seen thousands of drunks.

In New Orleans, when the 4th quarter of the SB came (in 2002), they had run out of the cups for 16 oz. beers. So, they started selling BIGGER beers for the cheaper price! First off, why would a Bills fan want to spend any money on the sh!tty product they've been rolling out the past decade? Secondly, if your son can't handle seeing a drunken brawl at a professional sporting event, maybe he would be better off sitting at home watching Glee on demand.
