Guest TheCheat Posted August 27, 2005 The market is crazy. I have 6 BRZs, and three people I'm yellow on. For those three, I've offered (more or less) $25M combined. That's 25% of my cap. I have to think some people are gonna have like 6 players and no addt'l money. To fill out some 20 slots. at this rate, that might be me 25% of your cap? Don't we all have $500M to spend? Just focking w/ ya! Here's to 40 more BRZs

rexnervous 0 Posted August 27, 2005 Ok, where does everyone's GM rating stand? (I assume it's updated real-time) Mine's at 51. Meaning...nothing. All I can see is how many teams are in negotiations. Anyone got something better?

Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 28, 2005 I've been out for the last while so just trying to catch up. At this point I have solid offers to Tim Rattay and Jerald Sowell I'm behind on Brian Moorman. That has to be Grigs
Guest TheCheat Posted August 28, 2005 I've been in and out, tho mostly in, and suspect that there'll be a lot more chatter in here on the weekdays when more ppl. are probably deskbound. As impatient as I am for Mon.'s signings (or lack thereof ), I'm glad we did the 11-day FAB. Gives us all more time to absorb and learn from what's gone on. Even though I voted for it, the 6-day woulda definitely been too hectic for me (this year, at least).
SteveMy 0 Posted August 28, 2005 I was at my auction draft. I left a few players in the queue and got shut out on those. GM rating
Wildman 0 Posted August 28, 2005 Another question - I've got $90M of my $150M "bid" money allocated. But I've already got some BRZ's, so that's dead "bid" money. The only way to remove these bids (and open up more of my $150M "bid" money) is to rescind an offer to a BRZ? Even though I'm out of the running, I'll still take a GM rating hit? Just wait until the guy gets signed and the dough returns to you. No big deal, because you'll have the money free for the next wave.
Wildman 0 Posted August 28, 2005 I've been checking this on and off all day long. I think this is living up to the hype. My GM rating has gone up and down. I can tell you that after a certain number, you get to see not only the number of owners negotiating with your player of choice but the actual teams. I rescinded an offer and it knocked by rating down by I think 3-4 points (ouch!). I will tell you that I had a good offer with Chad Johnson that I thought was a little high for him, then someone (or more than 1) really raised the ante. I'm flying by the seat of my pants with my strategy. I could really crash and burn, but what the heck it's the first year.
lasallax 0 Posted August 28, 2005 I really wanted to post on the board all day yesterday, but life kept happening. My computer did have the FAB open all day though, and I really didn't expect to be shut out on C. Johnson. My budget is still in tact so far, which I should hope will be a good thing in the next few rounds. I like the mix of positions out there on the market from the first round, pretty balanced. So the opening bid process went about how I expected. Today is the day I really am a bit apprehensive about. All day, watching the green bar go down. Wondering if I should tweak the budget a bit. Hoping that I jump at the right time, and lay off on a deal that won't help my team. Staring at my GM rating, pondering if it truly represents who I am as a manager, and if I somehow let down the fans by not giving C. Johnson that 80m/3 yrs and a PB contract. And then I have to go find a mathematics professor on campus and ask if I could use him periodically to find out when a player has only 10% left on the market. I really am not quite sure what to expect from today, but I do know that yesterday was a whole lot of fun.
Antonio Gates' Gate 0 Posted August 28, 2005 One of my lessons learned so far, and I feel like an idiot for even mentioning it because it is so obvious: always read the current version of the manual. I was reading an old hardcopy of v1.1 and it said when you rescind an offer to a player with an R-0 it has no effect. OK, so...I rescinded three offers and got a -9 hit to my rating. After saying wtf, I then read the manual - v1.2- and it says...yes, -3 for rescinding to an R-0. Shiiiite. Oh well, so now I am staring at screen filled with a few Red R's. a few spots of yellow and one green, and I am looking forward to Wave 2 (since I screwed up Wave 1 so royally.) The bright side is that there are a TON of good players left. Only a few times did a "best-left" get injected. I like that, it keeps you on your toes, and it's nice knowing there will be a lot more good players to come later, if you miss out on someone you want now... Anyway, time to go check the green bars for the first time today...
Guest TheCheat Posted August 28, 2005 Gate, I would've done the exact same thing if I hadn't seen some threads on this on the gdr board...I hadn't completely reviewed the latest rev. of the guide either. Be careful out there. Re: those green bars, when they started to go down slightly I thought the site and/or I were just having display probs (until they started to look more like bars). I have mixed feelings about today...how cool would it be to have players being signed in 10 mins.? Otoh, it's kinda nice to have the breather day to step back, reassess, tweak offers/budgets, etc. Stray thought...the offer day's kinda like the NFL Network's No Huddle...look away and who knows what you might miss? Might be McNabb->Owens (not much of a fan but, man, how electrifying was that?) or it might just be a punter. Either way, it's like being a kid w/ ADD, chugging a two-liter coke and, uh, what were we talking about?

Blitzen 0 Posted August 28, 2005 Man, it's going to be tough at work tomorrow for the second half of the day... Has Blitz checked in yet? How about Roto? How'd you do after missing some at the wedding? Yep. Actually had a chance to peek in this morning from an internet cafe. Pretty neat process so far. The thing I would have liked to take back: putting more than one HB on autobid. Both were way too low on first offers so I got a red zero on both. Should've just sacrificed one. Blitzen 0 Posted August 28, 2005 Oh and GM rating of 76 right now. I guess I gauged my first offers reasonably well. Pretty much sitting still for a bit until some players clear off my FOQ.
Dan Sez 0 Posted August 28, 2005 the board seemed to stablize for me, I tried to get on yesterday early but "too many connections"??? Anyway, my GM rating is around 65 so that means I have been blowing a little smoke up the skirts of the agents. The initial cost of doing business cost me Chad Johnson, I woulda bid higher but tried a mid-bid which got me a red fat 0 and no chance to escallate. Same with J.Peppers, not even a chance to say .. Hey. Lots of fun. I have a bunch of reds a hand full of yellows and a couple of greens. I think I will come away with about 4 to 7 players this round - not for sure just what yellow means. Hey. Same sort of thing happened to me and Ray Lewis. I had him in my FOQ, and someone injected him and it took my not-really-set-up offer, which got me a huge red 0. I was going to offer quite a bit more than whatever it was set at. Needless to say I got rid of all my FOQs and just put one in when I was coming up.
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 29, 2005 I'm getting impatient waiting for the signings. I'm especially keen to see how my yellows turn out as I have a few. I'm guessing those will be like flipping a coin on who is ultimately going to get the player. I wonder if it will always be the best offer that wins out in the end. Does the player give some consideration to owners who gave earlier offers, or injected the players when competing offers are deemed "close"? Just a thought. It wouldn't surprise me if that was true. My rating is at 66. I wish the site would stop timing out my session so I could just leave this thing in the background and hit refresh all day.

AFAIK the best perceived offer always wins -- which is a factor of money, contract years, and experience. If 2+ bids are perceived to be equal, the GM with the highest rating wins. If the ratings are equal, the tie breaker is the earliest offer. Regarding the session timeouts: I'm using the MyIE2 browser (MS IE engine with tabbed browsing), and I load a "low cost" non-static page (not a full page with tons of dynamic content) like the GB rating log into a tab that I have set to refresh every minute. That way the session is kept alive without me having to do any actual activity on the site. I don't know if Firefox lets you auto-refresh a single tab or not. Blitzen 0 Posted August 29, 2005 It'll be fun to see how much Manning went for. Didn't even bid on him cause I thought it would totally screw up the rest of my line-up.
rexnervous 0 Posted August 29, 2005 Man, I went in and made three (what I thought) were decent bids on available players this morning, and all three got BRZs. I just don't get it - either I'm being rather wussy or some people are going to have virtually no money for the later rounds and the free-agent period after week 1. Looks like I'll be lucky to have 3 signees after wave 1.

Yep, although given my bid for LT I have a feeling he'll be even higher. Also interested in what K Jones will go for - have a feeling someone is going to WAY overpay for him. 9 teams in negotiations? Looks like I'll be lucky to have 3 signees after wave 1. I've got lots of greens and yellows and a bunch of reds and am pretty much close to the targets I had set for myself. My targets were quite reasonable. Not bidding on ridiculously high players made that possible. Not sure how many guys I'll have drafted by the end of wave 1 but it could be lots. I'll try to get a discussion going on the GDR forum about what people think of 6-day vs 11-day FABs. I think the pace is slow on ours but maybe the 6-day variety has issues as well. SmoovJello 0 Posted August 29, 2005 Looking at things right now, I'm not thinking that I'm doin too bad. I currently have a GM Rating of 71 and stand to sign between 4 - 10 people, most of which wold be on D or ST. I'm a little over on a position or two but I'm also a bit under what I was willing to spend on some other positions. BRZ = 13 Yellow = 4 Green = 6 I'm actually happy that we went with the 11-Day FAB this year. We may be able to do the 6-Day next year but I personally need the extra time to try to determine my next moves. Two hours til the 1st signings.
