DrJ 0 Posted April 19, 2006 Wow, that's really cool. How exactly does that work, do they have concrete underneath so they can play tennis and stuff?
Sho Nuff 720 Posted April 19, 2006 Yes...very cool...not sure about the underneath part. but it comes in and out to get only the sun it needs.

Juniper 0 Posted April 19, 2006 When do they start drafting players or acquiring free agents who are retractable?
Bad_Mo_focher 1 Posted April 19, 2006 Wow, that's really cool. How exactly does that work, do they have concrete underneath so they can play tennis and stuff? That would be a pretty large venue for tennis. Pretty inventive though.
remote controller 138 Posted April 19, 2006 Certainly won't be out in the sun much
shovelheadt 66 Posted April 19, 2006 Wow, that's really cool. How exactly does that work, do they have concrete underneath so they can play tennis and stuff? That's exactly what it is. They're going to leave the grass outdoors other than during games so they can use the stadium for conventions and concerts. Takes 45min to roll it back in. Larry David 20 Posted April 19, 2006 I know there's a Ricky Williams joke in here somewhere, but I'm just too tired.
shovelheadt 66 Posted April 19, 2006 I know there's a Ricky Williams joke in here somewhere, but I'm just too tired. This grass slides out in one big tray. It doesn't roll itself up.
Phillyram 0 Posted April 19, 2006 This grass slides out in one big tray. It doesn't roll itself up. Of course it doesn't roll itself up, that's what Ricky would be there for (if he were there)
jman316 0 Posted April 19, 2006 You know Edge rolled up a little grass before he signed a contract with Arizona! Sounds like the Cards are hoping to draw more fans with their fancy stadium....people will be coming to the games an hour early to watch the field get moved in and then end up leaving before halftime. jocstrap 8 Posted April 19, 2006 You guys don't know how it works? They use a clapper . Clap once grass appears, clap twice it disappears.

Mr Anonymous 24 Posted April 19, 2006 There's all kinds of stuff on the Cardinal's website... http://www.azcardinals.com/stadium/design.php The Discovery channel (I think that was the one) had an hour long show on the contruction a few months ago.
DrJ 0 Posted April 19, 2006 According to that ballpark site, they're going to keep the grass outside all of time and that's where it will be maintained, and then they will roll it into the stadium before each game. They say it's cheaper to move the grass than the roof... Apparantly they can just retract portions of the roof too, so they'll have the field of play all exposed while the fans get maximum shade. Cool, cool stuff.
ellisonb11 0 Posted April 19, 2006 yea thats very cool....itd be cool to see at other stadiums eventually.
t.j 35 Posted April 20, 2006 I wish the Raiders could retract their stadium's baseball team!
LunaTick 29 Posted April 20, 2006 It may be interesting to see the grass on a sled. (weighting on someone injury related to a sudden and unexpected shift with it) But that stadium is simply ugly. At least the initial renderings for it. puke
Phillyram 0 Posted April 20, 2006 You guys don't know how it works? They use a clapper . Clap once grass appears, clap twice it disappears. Boy, any other stadium and they'd actually have to worry about the thing rolling up on them mid-game, but I guess they're ok in AZ.
