Reggie Bush, and how I paid for my family's house?

Recommended Posts

He couldn't answer the question who was paying rent for his parent's house, his agent's top 3 alternative answers were:

3. I was Matt Leinart's pimp this past year.

2. It came from the proceeds form my first rap recording, Money Under the Table

1. O. J. loaned it to us

Shows ya, college football is about as crooked as it comes.

Why do people care who paid for Reggies house. It didnt help him on the field. It didnt help him run all over the NCAA. People just want a reason not like Reggie. People dislike Vince because he's dumb, Leinart because he's "hollywood" and now Reggie because his parents lived in a damn house. Let it go.

So it's OK for the NCAA, UCLA, the PAC 10, ESPN, NBC, ABC, CBS, DirecTV and innumerable other sources to make tons of money off this kid, but he takes an advance on some of his well-deserved future earnings, and now he's supposed to be labeled as having "character issues". Bullsh!t. I personally hope Houston does pass on him, he's too good to be held back by David Carr and that pathetic excuse for an NFL franchise.

No he can't take money - period. It's called NCAA regulations. Yes you get in trouble for that. All the rest of us NCAA athlete's must abide by the same rules. I too was a national champion in tennis and never one time took money under the table. ETHICS. I tell you what...if he is found guilty of taking money before the season was over - USC needs to be punished in a severe way just like all the other schools have been punished in the past. So what if it is USC - they are not above the rules. Take away just as many scholarships if it would have been SMU or Okla ST or Miss STate or any other school that has been hit hard. Regulations are Regulations even if ESPN, PAC 10 and NBC make a ton of money. Do the crime - pay the time!

 if he's found guilty - - USC doesn't deserve to have a full slate of scholarships

Well said. Not to mention the fact that the guy behind the house also had ties to a CASINO!.

Yeah, there's not a conflict of interest there or anything........

Don't be stupid. This is a question of ethics and morals. Its no different than a booster letting a player "borrow" a car.

Yeah it still happens around the NCAA, but USC AND Reggie Bush should have been alot smarter when it came to things like this. There is no excuse for this. Period.

its pretty cut and dry folks.... NCAA Rules

12.3.1.2 Benefits from Prospective Agents. An individual shall be ineligible per Bylaw 12.3.1 if he or she (or his or her relatives or friends) accepts transportation or other benefits from:

(a)Any person who represents any individual in the marketing of his or her athletics ability. The receipt of such expenses constitutes compensation based on athletics skill and is an extra benefit not available to the student body in general; or

( b ) An agent, even if the agent has indicated that he or she has no interest in representing the student-athlete in the marketing of his or her athletics ability or reputation and does not represent individuals in the student-athlete's sport

the big diference is:

tennis- makes no money for a college, probaly actually costs the college money

football- bush probaly made usc over millions over millions in ticket sales, merchandise sales, tv contract, bowl game, etc. etc.. also, he helped raise the usc profile even higher, which will attract more students (and athletes) to apply, which will mean that usc gets to choose from a better crop of kids, which will make the school more presitigious.

always follow the money

i played D3 basketball and saw kids get all kinds of stuff/money for free and NO one makes $$$ from D3 sports. The NCAA is crooked from head to toe. I bet somewhere a water-polo player has recieved some perk against NCAA regulations.

I totally agree that the money is in football. That's not even the question. I'm just saying look at all the other schools that have been punished and punished severly for breaking the rules. You know boosters paying for things and so forth. Sliding the ol' parental units some cash for... lets say an apartment payment. If he took the money before the season was over...is my point. ###### I'm having to watch my Mississippi State Bulldogs right now while they're dealing with NCAA penalties from when Jackie Shithead was here. YOU CANT GIVE $ IN ANY WAY PERIOD!

Because it potentially compromises his amature status, that's why. Not, as you said, because people want a reason to not like Reggie. I think most people (myself included) reacted to this by thinking, "Jeez Reggie, and you were so close to having a perfect image..." It's a shame, because like you I believe it didn't help him on the field, he could have been where he is right now without the help from this guy.

Reggie's wonderlic should have included a question like this:

If your family lives in a 750,000 house bought by an agent, before you go pro:

1. It's ok, because you're Reggie

2. Make sure to only answer questions about it on ESPN, where "what I learned is that the higher you go in this, the more people want to use you" is an acceptable answer

3. Peter Warrick is wondering if he can have a Heisman too, he only got a few hundred dollars worth of clothes for free

4. All of the above

every single student athlete in division I football has broken an ncaa rule by taking something that they weren't. period. and you know why? because they can. same reason a dog sucks his own you know what. even if it's just a suit jacket, or a car for an evening, or a couple hundred bucks to buy his girlfriend something nice, or ANYTHING, every single one of them has taken in one form or another. bush took a house, that must be the going rate for being the best player in the country and heisman winner. it varies in degree of what you get, but if you're in the program, you get something and it's against the rules. and i don't care what they take one bit.

i think everyone who's ever thought deeply about this subject knows the simply fact - everybody takes. anyone that went to a football school knows hits. i went to wisconsin madison. every football player got free sh%t. they got tests a week before exams, if they even took the exams.

but nobody on this board should complain about it. because i'm guessing everyone here has watched a college football game before. maybe you've even been to one. which means, you support the cause. you give them money and time and give schools and "friends of the program" the means to give back to their students and everybody breaks rules.

if you've ever given anything to college sports, don't complain about students who get a piece of it.

Who cares if you were national champion in tennis? If you were good enough to be pro...you would have gone pro and made some money, and I'm not talking about club pro. Plus...nobody cares about tennis...no one. Pro tennis is a joke, and college tennis is less than that. If were not for Football and basketball, there would be no college tennis. Those regulations are a joke. Everybody violates them. When some dope in the media actually does his job and reports it, then it becomes a big issue. The bottom line is that they should be paid.

I went to madison too, mid 90s. I totally agree. Those guys were driving around in nice cars and were given tests before they had to take them. I would have to say that I don't care though. They essentailly were working a 60 hour week for free so they should get something if it makes the community and the university money.

I don't hate Reggie Buch...nor do I think it will effect his draft status nor should it...but the fact is he blatantly broke the rules and should have to face consequences as should USC.

You can not accept gifts from agents before leaving college. And living ina 3000 square foot house valued at over $800,000 could be deemed as a gift. Get over it. I don't think he is a bad person...but he cheated and got caught...sorry!!!!

Pretty much yes. He is getting an edumacation. Why all of a sudden is it okay for teams to cheat and players can't wait until after college to get their money. Get over it. I don't want to hear crap like they are being taken advantage of. I'm sure millions would trade lives with R. Bush minus his free rental and other perks!!! Get a grip with reality!!!

More importanly, can you inmagine college athletics if they let them recieve perks and mass sums of money. It would be professional athletics...Pro sports are getting terrible so why ruin college. I agree that kids should be able to get some spending money because they aren't able to work. But that is it.

I also agree that the larger problem is that the owner of the house has ties with gambling.

I also thinnk it is pathetic how bush is lying. I did lose a little respect. He says he has no idea about how and why his parents live and purchase/rent houses. Please...he didn't wonder how his parents moved into a $1 million dollar crib??!!??

Take it easy man! The Texans have only been around for 4 years and had a complete DUMBASS for a coach. They will get things turned around this year and Reggie will be a HUGE part of it!

And on the subject the bottom line is this agent is pissed b/c Reggie didn't use him or his company so he's trying to get back at him somehow. But the bottom line is nothing will come of this. After the draft it will blow over and nobody will care anymore. Remember how Lebron James mysteriously bought a brand new Hummer before he was drafted and every made a huge thing about it? Does anyone give a rats ass now?

I don't have the facts so I'll steer clear of assuming he or his family are guilty. And no, I didn't watch the interview, though I have read the transcripts. And again, I have yet to hear anything other than:

1) A man who wants to start a marketing company using Reggie Bush as his anchor client, buys a $750,000dollar house in Spring Valley, CA.

2) This entrepreneur leases the house to the family of the potential anchor client.

Other than that, everything that's been discussed is speculation.

I think pretty much the 1 and 2 statements you made provides guilt. I'm not saying he is afelon. But, his parents were living ina million dollar house for future possible professional usage by their son. That is a benefit to Bush's family that was not paid for end of story. I seriously doubt they were paying/or got approved for the $5500/month amortized payment or the $8,000 market rental/lease price.

Yes, while it may be true that football brings in a significant amount of money, that is not how the rules work. The rules are applicable to EVERY NCAA athlete regardless of which sport it is that they play. Now, whether an infraction gets overlooked may be a result of where the money is, but this infraction can no longer be overlooked because it is in the public. If they let USC get away with this then they would be sending a clear message that certain schools do not have to follow the rules. That would likely open up the NCAA to various lawsuits, which I am sure they do not want to deal with.

I would assume something would happen here. Even if this "entrepreneur" was leasing the home to Bush's family, I am sure it is for significantly less consideration than it is worth. There is no doubt in my mind that this would be considered a violation if borrowing a car is a violation.

you're an idiot, i didn't say that. i said that everyone breaks the rules and you shouldn't complain it. it is what it is.

give reggie bush a house, just make sure he shows up on saturdays. there's always going to be cheating, of all degrees.

and people in this thread are saying, "break the rules is breaking the rules," so i'm just pointing out that everybody does it and if you don't believe it, you either are just out of your element or are ignorant.

it's like crime anywhere. a cop doesn't pull me over for not signaling a turn, but it's against the law. he will pull me over for speeding though. pick your battles.
