I think it is more to do with heart though, Wings played with heart in one game, the Oilers played with heart in the rest. It is ALOT of luck, more than any other professional sport, IMO. Statistically, the lower scoring the game, the more luck has to do with the outcome.

Yeah, and when the scores are low it's because it's a clutch-and-grab game - exactly the kind of game the Wings aren't built for and the NHL was trying to lose.

 

I agree the Wings are playing with less heart than the Oilers BUT the officiating just sucks. If the refs would stick to the regular season rules then these games would be exciting.

yep, i don't want to see wing fans lamenting that goal that really wasn't: the wings deserve to be kicked in the ass for even being in this position tonight. no excuses. none.

 

i don't know what was more pathetic: legace's play this series or his utter inferiority complex in the media about not knowing if he was good enough. babcock should have played the kid (howard) tonight. at least go down swinging.

 

holland better have the balls to gut this team in the offseason. it's been a fun ride this past decade, but enough. i'd rather see a team of kids struggling to make the playoffs and even missing the playoffs rather than this prima donna-type performance in the playoffs. revolting.

 

this is three straight years this core has done this. it's time to blow it up.

completely agree. the wings lost this series by their own hand of ineptness and the wilting of legace. i have no patience for anyone wanting to find excuses for the wings by blaming the refs. puh-leez.

zetterberg is the only untouchable on the roster. i'd say lidstrom too, but he's getting up there and this team needs to rebuild and make hard choices. his $7 mill would be better spent on youth in free agency.

My favorite part was certain idiots in the sports media in Detroit who went into Saturday's game somehow convinced that the Wings had the series in the bag. One dumbass from the News/Freep was writing about the Wings' second round opponents being Colorado on Saturday morning.

Manny was never "tracking" the puck after the first game. He seemed to never know where rebounds would end up. Maybe Holland will get some new grit and a goaltender.

well the home team has won every game thus far, and I do winder if philly, the city not the team is in their head, but if the sabres can get on the board early and then win the second period, they should win the game and series.

didn't see that, although that's hilarious. any person that knows the game of hockey and watched these games would have known from the second period of game 2 that the wings were in serious, serious trouble in this series. that's when the mental lapses, defensive breakdowns, turovers, and soft goals started. and (at least from my observation) that was a lingering problem the last month of the season (even though they won a lot of those games). after the second period of game 2 i said "roh-oh...they're still doing that."

 

i predicted with certainty to my wife after the first period of saturday's game that the wings would lose the series. she just thought i was being a pessimist. but if you watched the little stuff and watched closely, the writing was on the wall.

I only saw most of 4 games, but Chris Pronger looked possessed on the ice. I think he may have brought an intimidation factor that influenced some of the Wings' forwards. I've seen him carry the Blues in playoff series' before, but he looked like a man on a mission in this series.

haven't seen the potential free agent list...but the wings need to gut this team, get some cap room, and go after some young guys. i'd also dangle dats as trade bait in the process. zetterberg is untouchable, imo. he had 6 goals in the series and was the only wing that ELEVATED his game in the playoffs.
