56 0 Posted May 6, 2006 That game was spectacular. It is not uncommon for a team to score to tie the game in the closing minutes of a game. It is very uncommon to have a team tie it, then allow a goal and then tie it again in the final minute or so of play. The fact that Sabres won it in OT 10 seconds in was insane. It is the kind of win that a team can build on and provide mucho mojo for them. Ottawa is the better team, but the Sabres may have gotten inside Emory's head with this win. What looked on paper like an easy series win for the Senators is now a toss up, and I would not be shocked to see the Sabres advance. Crazy, crazy game. mulletia 0 Posted May 6, 2006 I was there. Lots of F-bombs from the crowd. I can imagine, they showed part of the crowd shaking the hand of a guy who had on a sabres jersey very classy fans, it would appear, in ottawa this should set up to be a great series, and I tend to think that the best twot eams the nhl are playing each other this year now if only briere, dumont and afinigenov can contribute

Casually dismissing them as a joke, is a joke in itself.

Very fast and skilled. They are clearly not one of the best two teams in hockey, though if we were to talk about the biggest complainers, they would get my vote. Seriously, I love Lindy Ruff and I hope his daughter gets better but he whines like a baby. Also regarding Carolina, someone must have not told them that they are not as good as the Devils, because the Hurricanes are totaly dominating them right now, 4-0 and the game is not even half way over. I am just now seeing that and clearly I'm wrong, but the sabres split with the canes this year the canes like the red wings numbers are inflated because of the division they play in. i don't buy the canes as the second best team, and I'm clearly a homer. I'd certainly like the opportunity to play the canes to see who's right

Id be shocked if carolina wins this in less than 6 games, the devils just looked like they had swept an inferior team and gave that half hearted effort, I think the devils come back and get the split here
BMoney 0 Posted May 6, 2006 One of the best in Sabres History, right up there with the Mayday goal , Derek plantes ot goal to eliminate the senators a few years back. what ever happened to the announcer that was screaming may day may day may day!!! thats not the same one they have now... the one now mustve have the big heart attack after last nights game.. esp after whats his name..volkov had the puck..thought..wtf am i carrying it up for?..stumbled...dropped a #2 in the middle of the ice and it was stolen away... its awesome that these teams have solid backups like morrison..biron and budaj....7, 6 and 5 goals and not one of these starters gets pulled... i can see maybe not pullign someone in the sabre game..it was close..but why keep theodore in? way to go Queefville... I think the are really good too, lorentz is a former sabre and he really does an excellent job providing the viewer who never played with the intricacies of what's happening, and isn't afraid to call out his own team or to praise the other team for excellent plays, and jeanerett, well he is just a great foil to lorentz and you can tell he loves the game and they are able to relay each and everything that is happening

They beat a battered, injured Ranger team that had the best young goaltender in the league rushed back from injury. To hear so many unknowledgable hockey fans talk of NJ just waltzing to the finals has made me laugh. The Rangers looked like crap heading into the playoffs, getting their lunch handed to them by such power houses as the Islanders and Penguins. If the Devils were using that series as a benchmark, and judging by their play today they were, they will be dispatched quickly. And if they get beat in game 2, the Devils will be lucky to have 10,000 fans in the building when the series moves to NJ. With the egg they laid today, they will be lucky to win 1 game. As long as the Sens can regroup, we should see the best 2 teams in the NHL in the East Conf. final. A Devils Sabres Conf Final would be just horrible. A NJ team that nobody cares about against a hick market with a reputation for choking. No thanks, I'd much rather see the star power that Ottawa and Carolina have. I have always had a soft spot for the Sabres since the French Connection days. But I think Ottawa is all that the Sabres are and more. With a healthy Hasek, it is not even close in my mind. I also think that the lack of veteran leadership on the Sabres puts them behind the Hurricanes, who I also think are more talented.

With all 4 lines again 11 guys with 40 points or more, most in the NHL The sabres not the sens or hurricanes are the highest scoring team in the playoffs, so I'm thinking that there is significant star power in buffalo. I do understand the anger as the sabres have home grown talent that the rangers sorely lack. enjoy watching the playoffs flyers lite As I said, I think they have a very talented, fast, young team. I don't understand how you can say they are more talented? they had 2 more points than the sabres, score a few more goals, and allowed a significantly less goals, they split, thye had the same number of wins, and the sabres played in a tougher division than the hurricanes and again buffalo had the most players with 40 points or more in the nhl, I guess I don't see this talent, perhaps more experience, but the flyers had more experience and that got them bounced in 6 games but again there is one way to settle this, the sabres need to beat the sens, and I think that is a tall order but if they do, then they can clearly beat the hurricanes
swamp dog 0 Posted May 6, 2006 it was an entertaining game from a fan perspective...but both defenses and both starting goalies should have taken out in the parking lot and repeatedly run over by zambonies after that fiasco. i don't know as if i've seen a more sloppy game this deep in the playoffs before. BMoney 0 Posted May 7, 2006 the devils got spanked..but i doubt they were taking this lightly.. they know with brenda moore out there, they wont many draws..so they need to adjust quickly... they hung in there..had 2 flukies given up..and the wind of the 15 game win streak knocked out of their sails... martys b-day...he was probably hung over after dating all of this sister in laws.... theyll be fine come game 2... Walter34 3 Posted May 7, 2006 Great games generally mean defensive mistakes. The greatness was from the excitement / drama perspective. This game was full of them. Miller was pretty crappy himself. He couldnt contain a rebound to save his life. Emery was brutal, but the Sens D were undressed on 4 of the 7 goals. I still think the sens will win in 7 games. Buffalo is a very good team however. They kept coming back every time the sens would take the lead.

But they had only 1 guy in the top 50 with respect to points, and he was tied for 94th overall in goals. So clearly star power is not something the Sabres can claim. Also, those 11 magical 40 point guys have an awful lot of minus numbers in the +/- column to go with that mediocre scoring. Half of their top 10 in points in fact sport a minus. Conversly, Ottawa has 1 guy in their entire roster with a minus, and the few on the Hurricanes that have a minus were additions via trade. Listen, I mentioned already that I have a soft spot for the Sabres. But even an unkowledgable Ranger fan such as myself can recognize a team that lived off of solid special teams play. They deserved to beat the Flyers, but they have no business beating the Sens. A non Sens-Hurricane Conf Final would be a crime, not to mention a snoozefest.
