texasmouth 1 Posted May 11, 2006 as far as taylor goes...since when did they start letting people over 30 enter the competition? He isn't 30. He isn't ~40~ either
NewbieJr 541 Posted May 11, 2006 Maybe they were under the impression that the "crowd" that watches is a bunch of young rabblerousers that would vote for Chris? Yah...I suppose Chris could lose, but is there actually anyone here, that if given the choice to get 50% of all the money any of this years contestants generate withe albums, contracts, etc....wouldn't take Chris? Taylor Hicks has been the star of this show ever since he walked into the hotel room playing a harmonica. He's the only contestant who showsthat he understands the difference between singing and performing. I think the public has done a great job so far. Chris, Kat, or Elliot could have all gone last night. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I just think chris is just as good, if not better, than the other singers in his genre of music. kat is not even in the same league with the others in her genre. I am not even sure what Goatboy's genre is....RB? If so, he can't hold a candle to those guys either. Taylor is just a great performer and he can really sing. I love the guy. I have even been voting for him, something I haven't done in the four seasons I have watched.
surferskin 30 Posted May 11, 2006 He isn't 30. He isn't ~40~ either didn't they say he was born in 1976 on that "billboard" night?
NewbieJr 541 Posted May 11, 2006 didn't they say he was born in 1976 on that "billboard" night? They made a huge mistake, though. On the night that they did songs from the year they were born, they showed a baby picture of Taylor Hicks on a beach with his mom. If you look real close, on the beach towel, there's a newspaper with a "Vote For John F. Kennedy" ad on the front page.

EndGame 0 Posted May 11, 2006 The age cutoff is 30 ... Taylor is 29. He only LOOKS like he's old enough to be the other contestants' father.
surferskin 30 Posted May 11, 2006 The age cutoff is 30 ... Taylor is 29. He only LOOKS like he's old enough to be the other contestants' father. i thought the age cutoff was 28 and he's older than 29...he was born in 1976.
NewbieJr 541 Posted May 11, 2006 i thought the age cutoff was 28 and he's older than 29...he was born in 1976. The rules say that your 29th birthday can't happen before your first tryout. He may have been 28 and ten or eleven months when he tried out, and hasn't turned 30 yet.

shovelheadt 71 Posted May 11, 2006 As usual the american public proves what idiots they are. Pretty much what it boils down to. Chris will be signed by someone within a couple of weeks. Don't think it's going to happen, but I'd love to see Elliot win it all. Taylor's MO is getting old. Kat's still there because of her looks and mammies. She's got a nice voice, but continually underperforms.
NewbieJr 541 Posted May 11, 2006 I think that the multiple song deal has proven to be the clincher for Taylor. There are fans who think his dancing and carrying on are what makes him the best in the competition, and there are some who hate his theatrics and prefer to hear him just stand there and sing. The two songs are allowing him to do both, as he's been crazy with Funky Music and Jailhouse Rock and showed his voice on Something and In The Ghetto. torridjoe 48 Posted May 11, 2006 I didn't think they'd do it, but the public made the right choice. Chris has a powerful voice, but not a lot of range and no real style versatility. Everything becomes a Live song in his hands. And we already have the band Live. Plus his performances on Tuesday were the total suck. Kat had the best performance of the night on her 2nd song, which may have saved her. She easily has the best voice and control of the four, but along with Elliot is a weak dancer. On the other hand, she has the total package to be a star--looks, talent, charisma. Elliott has a real nice voice, like George Benson's--but how long did Rick Astley's career last? Not focking long. Of all four of them, he has the LEAST chance of getting a contract without winning. Taylor is goofy, but he's a good performer. I don't think he'll get any kind of pop vocalist contract without winning either, but his band might well get signed to a major and they'll become well known. He'd be a fool to do a solo career, IMO--he'd end up doing standards in Vegas the rest of his life. I have no idea who will win it anymore.

kutulu 1,680 Posted May 11, 2006 Chris Daughtry Gets 'Idol' Boot and Offer of a LifetimeMay 11, 2006 Twenty-eight million jaws dropped to the floor Wednesday night as Chris Daughtry got voted off “American Idol.” But don’t think this rocker is down and out. Only “Extra” broke big news about Chris that’s making headlines from Ryan Seacrest’s radio show to stations across the country. “You have an offer to be the lead singer of a major band,” Ryan revealed to Chris Thursday morning on his hit radio show. “Theyre going to be on ‘Extra’ tonight, and they’re going to submit the formal offer for you.” Thursday, Fuel bass player Jeff Abercrombie and songwriter/guitarist Carl Bell came straight to “Extra” with the offer of a lifetime -- they want Chris. "Chris, if you are watching, we've talked about this before, and if you want to entertain it again we'll take it and go," Abercrombie offered. Chris’ rendition of Fuel’s “Hemorrhage” was his first groundbreaking “Idol” performance. The band, which has been searching for a lead singer, saw Chris’ performance and they want him in the band. Well Chris, it’s up to you, but first “Extra” has another “Idol” exclusive. Our Terri Seymour was with Ryan and Randy for LA’s FOX 11 just moments after Chris’ shocking send off. "Obviously, it wasn't based on singing tonight because the wrong person went home," Randy admitted. "Catherine probably should have gone home tonight." It’s down to the final three, and Simon came to “Extra” telling us now there are no favorites. “The funny thing about this show is when someone goes, you never know where their votes are going to go,” Simon confessed. “I genuinely don't know who is going to win.” linky
