Reason being?

Was this planned?

Anything to do with focking up ANOTHER draft?

The real question is: Who's done more damage to the city of Houston, Charlie Casserly or Jeff Skilling?

The Junkies radio show here in DC reported Mario Williams was Kubiak's pick, not Casserly's.

Dunno if that is an accurate report tho.

Is there an uglier guy than Casserly? Bad hair, bad complexion, bad draft picks.

Count me in as one who won't miss seeing this guy's mug.

I guess I'm in the minority in thinking that the Texans have actually had a very good offseason/draft. And since I'm a Titans' fan, I'd much rather say that our fellow AFC-South rivals have gotten worse this offseason, but the truth is that they've gotten better.

They went out and added a legit, proven #2 WR (WR Moulds), they added a good pass-catching TE (TE Putzier), a good C (C Mike Flanagan), a dependable backup/goalline RB (RB Ant. Smith), and a couple of solid (if unspectacular) vets on the D-Line (DE N.D. Kalu and DE Anthony Weaver).

I also liked their draft. They made the unpopular pick of Mario Williams; however, he was clearly the best defensive player in the draft (at least from a potential standpoint) and filled a more pressing team need. And while I think Reggie Bush will be a good NFL player, RB is not as big a need with the Texans (i.e. Dom Davis). Plus, people seem to keep forgetting that Bush (while a phenomenal athlete in his own right) is not a sure thing, at least no more of a sure thing than Mario.

With their 2nd pick, they added a starting LB in DeMeco Ryans who has some talent, plays hard, and has top intangibles. Then they added 2 starting OL in OG Charles Spencer and OT Eric Winston (both of whom were steals for where they were chosen)--not to mention Wali Lundy (who was one of my top sleepers in the draft), a RB with good size, decent speed, and a knack for finding the endzone.

So, ultimately, I think Casserly's done a pretty good job, at least THIS offseason (I can't compliment him much for previous offseasons)...

But yeah...he is a pretty weird-looking guy...can't disagree with you there...

I dont have an opinion on him, but it must be a surprise or recent decision. Why not let the new GM draft for himself otherwise?

potential is an ugly word, especially when talking about a guy who underachieved in the games against the best competition...

It is rumored that he will be taking a job in the office of the NFL.

He's taking a position of NFL Director of Football Operations. Heck, this is really old news. It was reported months ago.

Now why the NFL doesn't just call the job NFL Director of Operations (rather than "Football Operations") is beyond me. Did we think it was baseball operations?

On the "Herd", Collin compared him not drafting Bush, then leaving the scene of the crime, to hiring Carrot Top as............................................augh &^%$ it, I can't remember.

Yup...Collin was funny as hell today with his comments on this as well as his work on the Yanks/Arod/Big Unit. He absolutely cracks me up, especially his bit today about what goes through Manny Ramirez's head before he hits a homerun.

It's been a mixed bag with Casserly. He's really not drafted as poorly as many think, but he has made some very questionable deals. Mario Williams was a Kubiak call and Casserly signed off on it. If anything, I'd say Casserly has given his coaches the leeway to choose their players in the draft. Jason Babin was totally a Capers pick. My problem with Casserly on that deal was what he gave up to move to the first round for Babin. Casserly gave up way too much for Buchanon. Casserly paid too much money to Todd Wade and Morlon Greenwood. From a talent acquisition standpoint, I don't think Casserly's done a poor job - a lot of the troubles are firmly based in poor coaching. But Casserly has paid way too much for many of these guys.

At any rate, I'm not heartbroken that he's gone, but I wouldn't have been complaining if he stayed, either. I think Kubiak will have a much more direct effect on this team than the GM, at least in the near future.

Casserly sucks.

Eric Moulds is not and has never been a #2 WR, he's a #1 WR who's old and slow. We'll see this year if that can magically become #2 WR material, and how long Moulds lasts before he blasts Carr, the organization, and Andre Johnson. When do minicamps start?

He's off the hook for Mario, though. Kubibackup probably thinks he can shove any old RB in there and get 1k yards, just like he did with the Rat, so why waste the #1 overall? Stupid. You wouldn't pass Barry Sanders because you had a hunch you could rush Olandis Gary instead... nothing against Domanick Davis.

He picked Heath Shuler and Michael Westbrook, putting the Skins behind the 8-ball for years. What more do you need to know?

He sucks.

He also was personally responsible for drafting 9 of the 11 starters on the '91 Washington defense. As I stated earlier, I am not heartbroken abour Cass leaving and I certainly am not about to defend many of his moves, but some people only see what they want to see. The draft is a mixed bag for everyone.

So was Mario Casserly's choice or not? I'm hearing conflicting reports. Some say he tried did the right thing taking Mario even though it wasn't popular. Others are reporting that Gary Kubiak and Bob McNair wanted Williams and Casserly wanted Bush (which could also be a reason he's out now). I'm not convinced either report is credible. Those that say Casserly wanted Bush are sounding more like they have a source, but it's hard to believe that the owner would be one of the guys who didn't want Bush.

I'm agreeing with you! It's more obvious then anything else. If everyone wants to play GM then why do they even need a GM.

Yeah...the last report I heard (via John Clayton) was that Casserly knew he was leaving for the past couple of months and let Kubiak take his guy (Mario) with the #1 overall pick. Also, (knowing that he was leaving anyway and not wanting the Texans' new coach to take a lot of heat for not taking Bush/Young) Casserly apparently agreed to be the needed "fall-guy"--to take the inevitable backlash from fans/media for the Mario pick. If that's the case, then that's a pretty honorable thing to do I suppose--spare Kubiak (a first-time coach) a lot of flak for not taking the guy that everyone naturally assumed that they would.

From the draft, it looks like Kubiak believes that a winning team must be built in the trenches--thus, the additions of Flanagan, Weaver, Kalu, Mario, Winston, and Spencer.

Gee, I wonder who they'll get to replace him....he'd have to be a better caliber decision maker, so I imagine they'll be scouting the local zoos for half-retarded chimpanzees.
