Iraq veteran sues Moore over 9/11 film

Recommended Posts

Any way you want it.

Either this guy is exempt from criticism because of his service, in which case so are Gore, Kerry, etc. or he's not because now he's decided to enter the public arena.

Personally I think once you file a bullsh1t lawsuit against a public figure you open yourself up to this kind of criticism. I respect the guy's service but unfortunately, it seems like he's trying to make a quick dime.

Yeah, well there's the rub. You're making a value judgement on his lawsuit without knowing all the facts. You didn't even seem to know what libel was or that the standards change whether you're a public figure or not. You're clearly uneducated on this issue and unqualifed to be judging the merits of this lawsuit yet you continue to adapt the facts to try to meet your definition of a BS lawsuit due to your obvious bias and apparent hatred of this guy who you've never met.

Why would I hate this guy? Like you said, I don't know him. Unlike Michael Moore, he's actually done something I respect. I've already said I thought "Fahrenheit 911" was a hack job and it sucked. I'm basing my opinion on the facts: The guy waited two years to file a suit, he's asking for a ridiculous amount of money for "emotional distress," and because he's suing Moore for misrepresenting his views - as opposed to just using footage that Moore didn't own the rights to - I'm assuming he had no ownership rights over the footage. I've also said that I'm sure Moore used the footage out of context and while that's not illegal or worthy of monetary compensation IMO, it also doesn't sound like grounds for a multimillion dollar law suit.

I tell you what. If this goes to court and it turns out that Moore illegally used the footage or I don't have the facts, I'll gladly admit that I was wrong. I've got no big stake in this. Michael Moore is a fat, manipulative focking liar. I'm just saying that based on these facts there's no grounds for a lawsuit, and your efforts to make this into something it isn't are hypocrisy.

I haven't made this into anything. I've simply pointed out your errors. I don't think this will make it to court. Either it will become obvious it's frivolous and a publicity stunt and fade away, or Moore will settle. If he thinks there's the slightest chance of losing in court he'll settle because if he lost this suit it would have a significant impact on his reputation, which is already crap to begin with, and his career. For the record, whenever one of these suits is filed they're for ridiculous amounts of money yet i've never once heard you b!tch about a celebrity suing the national enquirer for $100 million before.

Never mind. It's funny how you lambast everyone who believes the word marriage should apply to a man and a woman, a perfectly valid viewpoint whether you agree with it or not, for not being logical. Yet you don't apply the same rules of logic to this discussion. You simply decide that the guy filing the lawsuit is an asshat and modify the argument as you go along to try to make it sound like you have a sound basis for that opinion.

OK. Well I still have no idea what you disagree with me about. I keep telling you I think the suit is bull because it was filed two years after the fact, the guy is asking for way more $$$ than he could possibly deserve - which makes me think he's looking for a settlement - and his claim is that Moore used his footage in a misleading way, not that he actually owned the footage. I still don't know if you disagree with any of that - you just keep telling me over and over that I need to respect this guy's viewpoint until all the facts come out. Fine - I said if I'm wrong in the end I'll admit it. That's still not good enough for you. So now I think you're too inarticulate to explain WTF you're talking about and too prideful to let it go, so I'll say goodnight.

I disagree with everything you've said. How's that? As an example, first you said that if he can sue for libel it will open the floodgates. Then, after I correct you by pointing out that there are different standards for average joes and high profile people, you say he should lose that very protection just because he filed the lawsuit. That makes no sense and is a perfect example of you trying to alter your argument as you go along to support an opinion that doesn't have any factual basis. You haven't made a logical point yet, and yesterday that's all you kept saying about the marriage discussion. Your whole argument is based upon an opinion you formed after reading the article. And that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion. Just remember that the next time you start calling people names because you don't think they're being logical.

I would guess that cmh's boss slept in the Green Zone and not in a bed in Al Anbar province.

Still dangerous as hell being in that country at all tho.

Going back to this and quite possibly beating the dead horse to a bloody pulp, I think the group my boss went with was the first congressional delegation to actually spend a night in Baghdad. I'll have to ask him to make sure once he gets back, but I'm pretty sure thats the case.
