Holy Shiat!

Al-Qaeda terrorists came within 45 days of attacking the New York subway system with a lethal gas similar to that used in Nazi death camps. They were stopped not by any intelligence breakthrough, but by an order from Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman Zawahiri. And the U.S. learned of the plot from a CIA mole inside al-Qaeda. These are some of the more startling revelations by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Suskind, whose new book The One Percent Doctrine is excerpted in the forthcoming issue of TIME. It will appear on Time.com early Sunday morning.

U.S. intelligence got its first inkling of the plot from the contents of a laptop computer belonging to a Bahraini jihadist captured in Saudi Arabia early in 2003. It contained plans for a gas-dispersal system dubbed "the mubtakkar" (Arabic for inventive). Fearing that al-Qaeda's engineers had achieved the holy grail of terror R&D — a device to effectively distribute hydrogen-cyanide gas, which is deadly when inhaled — the CIA immediately set about building a prototype based on the captured design, which comprised two separate chambers for sodium cyanide and a stable source of hydrogen, such as hydrochloric acid. A seal between the two could be broken by a remote trigger, producing the gas for dispersal. The prototype confirmed their worst fears: "In the world of terrorist weaponry," writes Suskind, "this was the equivalent of splitting the atom. Obtain a few widely available chemicals, and you could construct it with a trip to Home Depot – and then kill everyone in the store."

Yeah that is quite disturbing.

What's what up with this tho?

And the U.S. learned of the plot from a CIA mole inside al-Qaeda.

I believe that is the first I've heard of us getting inside AQ. Good news if accurate!

We are inside AQ and have been for some time now.Of corse the liberals don't want us to know that, thus for no coverage on the TV News. The reason the liberals don't want that info mainstream is because it is a HUGE victory for the military, which the liberals loth.

yet we can't find Bin Laden. Puzzling.

October surpise for the elections :first:

We shouldn't be publicizing the fact that we have people inside AQ. The more direct knowledge is attributable to them, the higher the probability they get found out by the AQ leadership.

What worries me is the following...

- The only reason it didn't happen is because AQ called it off.

- Also, the only reason we know anything about this weapon is because we stumbled across a laptop, not from any of our intelligence methods.

- Also, nice job with this author letting everyone know that we have a mole inside AQ.

Just a matter of time before we get drilled again.

This is the pinnacle of idiotic statements ever posted on this site. That's saying something extraordinary when you consider all of RP and FF posts. Let's advertise the fact that we might have moles in Al Qaeda because it may make people support the war. Oh my god, that is stupid. Since when do we ever make public information lie that available? When have we ever made public information about covert agents for a political agenda? Oh wait..........Plame?

Crazy bastage.

Oh wait..........Plame?

lol

Time to move on from that one Paulie, it's been a loser for you libs from day one.

First, Plame isn't covered under the statute.

Second, she had been "outed" by her own husband many times prior to this.

Third, NOBODY has been charged for outing her.

I suggest you immediately email the DNC and have them make this a major part of the party platform, right next to "Bush is bad".

;)

So is it a good thing for Homeland Security to slash funding by 40% to New York City and DC? If this is true, I don't think so.
