Top Five Running Backs

Recommended Posts

Take out LT2, LJ and SA then who is your next five off the board.

1. Clinton Portis...he's in an offense that has talent everywhere. The O-Line needs to be comepletely healthy to keep the holes opening up, but I see a big year for Portis. They also say they plan to throw to the backs more which will only add to his value.

2. Edgerrin James....he has just as good of weapons in Zona as he had in Indy. IF Kurt Warner can capture that magic he had with the Rams, the Edge could score 20-25 TD's easily. O-Line definitly has to step however.

3. Stephen Jackson....I love Linehan as a head coach. Linehan is a pass first coach, but that will only make Jackson more dangerous. He had 43 receptions last year, I expect a more this year and his rushing total to get closer to 1300-1400 with 13-16 TD's.

4. Tiki Barber....Year in and year out this guy puts up numbers. He is 31, so you would think he'll be slowing down a bit and using Jacobs to vulture TD's hurts as well. But coming off a year where he put up over 2300 all purpose yards...even a slip in production makes him a top tier back.

5. Deshaun Foster....Here is the reach of my top five. Obviously the first thing that pops into our heads is "injury prone". When healthy however he is a nightmare to defenses. He put up over 850 yards as a back up over half the season. He has incredible speed and can make big plays. He needs to stay healthy and find the endzone alot more, but I think this is the year where it all comes together.

By the way Cuse I think Williams will have Fosters job by midseason or atleast sharing part of the load of it.

It's possible....Like I said, I was going out on a limb with Foster. I just like that team's offensive power and the running back will have a huge year. As it is, it's Fosters job. Eventually he will stay healthy and do great.

I was going to say not to tell anyone, but I don't think anyone will listen. I agree completely that DeShaun Foster could have a huge year and I will be drafting him (hoping his ADP will stay in the 5th round by the time I draft). If his ADP goes up to 4th round I probably will still take him [10 team keeper league - 1st year].

You guys fail to realize R Brown is in the best position to post top tier #s. Great in both the passing and running game an will never face 7-8 in the box w/Culpepper/Chambers/Mcmichael combo. This Kid is ready

C Portis

R Brown

T Barber

E James

S Jackson

So you think Arizona is going to go from 2 rushing TDs in 2005 to 25 in 2006 because of Edge who never even put up those numbers in Indy

T. Barber

R. Johnson

L. Jordan

R. Brown

If it's a PPR league, swap Johnson and Jordan. After those, would probably be (in order) S. Jackson, E. James, C. Williams, W. McGahee and then B. Westbrook.

Are you asking if James a massive upgrade over Shipp/Arrington and whoever else they put back there....absolutely! Plus Green's system is another year established. James can definitly take advantage of the attention the wide receivers will get. James is a great player, so to see him excell in any offense is expected.

I like Cadillac because Simms is still young and prone to make mistakes. Look for Gruden to take some of the pressure off by making the running game the focus of the offense.

I also like Ronnie Brown for much of the same reasons .... It's foolish to think that Culpepper will come right out of the gates in his first year in a new offense and put up the numbers he did in Minn. Look for Saban to focus on the running game while Culpepper learns. Bonus is that he doesn't have to split time w/ Ricky Williams. I think he's going to have a big year.

The other players mentioned will probably all have big years, but if I'm unlucky enough to have the last pick in the first round and all the guys that have been mentioned are gone ... well, I like Caddy and Ronnie. I think these two guys are quality 2nd rounders, but the situations they're in this make they're stock even better. Shaky QB's = lots of touches for the RB's

...a lot of options for 2nd tier backs, in fact a bit of a coin toss.

Honourable mention - L. Jordan. W. McGahee. W. Parker

I'm kinda surprised that Warrick Dunn gets absolutely no love here.

Okay, he only accounted for 4 TDs last season. But get this: he produces TDs in even numbered years.

2000 - 8, 2002 - 7, 2004 - 9, 2006 - ?????.

Over the past 3 seasons, he's averaged 5.4, 4.2, and 5.1 YPC.

I would put him in the 10-12 range, no question. He's a solid #2, and very consistent.

I think when it comes to Dunn we have the same thought as the Falcons.....there has got to be something better?! The guys that draft Dunn are usually guys who just don't see anyone better on the board. Dunn is a good player, but we know Duckett will always take TD's from him....so his value goes even lower than it should.

I had Tiki and stephen Jackson last year and both had either big games or nothing games. Tiki would be a definite #4 or even a #3 if Coughlin wasn't such a f*cking dooshbag and would leave his best player in the game when they're inside the 5. Coughlin is a moron if he thinks he's doing his offense a favor by leaving Tiki on the sideline when they're on the goal line.

Stephen Jackson is an up/down player. When they're playing from behind (they did a lot of that last year), Stephen becomes a non factor. That's something to think about. It's all nice and everything that coach is going to focus on running. Lets see what happens when they're losing.

I had these guys last year and it's feast or famine w/ both of them.

As long as he's averaging 5 yards a clip, and as long as Vick can't hit water if he were afloat in the Pacific, Dunn's gonna post up nice yardage numbers. Now if history keeps, Dunn should post decent TD numbers this season.

Atlanta's defense will be dominant this year. They're gonna shorten the field, and they should be playing with leads alot of the time. From what I keep hearing, Duckett is not exactly endearing himself to the coaching staff. We've all heard the "Duckett's gonna take over" stories for about 3-4 years now, and he still hasn't.

I just believe that Dunn should not be overlooked this year.

I have been a Dunn guy for years. He always seems to get overlooked and I have been lucky enough to have him as a 3rd Rb a couple of times.

I think he is a solid #2 Rb but I dont think he belongs in the discussion of the top 8 Rb's.

As much as Ducket sucks he still vultures TD's. Vick also vultures TD's inside the redzone. And Dunn has not been involved in the passing gm to to the extent that you would think.

I love Dunn as a 3rd RB. He was 8th in rushing last year. 8th!!!!!! and I got him in the 5th round.

My list:

Portis- Big year if he can stay healthy. Small RB's sometimes have a hard time doing that.

Jordan- Big year but can the raiders run the ball in the second half. Moss might be the true blue chipper

Brown- Bigger work load. Can he handle it. 6 foot 235lbs. Oh yeah he can handle it.

Bell- Hey I live in Denver trust me if Bell can learn to block which he will the job is his.

Rudi- He would be higher on this list but man look at his schedule. In a word. BRUTAL!

4. Portis- actually have him #3

5. Jackson- biggest beneficiary of the coaching change

6. Rudi- safest pick after Portis

7. Barber- hope I can avoid him, hate taking guys his age in the first but 2400 yards is hard to overlook

8. Jordan- the number of touches he gets add up to big numbers, although from a talent standpoint I think he's overrated

honorable mention- Westbrook- if he could somehow manage to stay healthy for 15-16 games, you're looking at 1700 yards and 10 TDs.

Portis

Jackson

Edge

R Brown

Tiki

I am glad to see how many people are high on Jackson. I drafted him in my dynasty league with the #9 pick. I had him higher than 9 and was really excited to get him.
