Tripenny 0 Posted July 23, 2006 I know a newbie might ask this kind of question, but I think it is useful as a grizzled vet to review this stuff annually to see if there is a better way. Our league was managed poorly last year during playoffs when there was no clear tiebreaker method. What is the fairest way you all see to break ties -- I have friends that use bench scoring, offensive touchdowns, etc., but what do you think is the best way. Also, it is critical that whatever method you recommend is appropriate for the playoffs (not just the regular season). Our league goes all 17 weeks, FYI. Thanks. swirvenirvin 25 Posted July 23, 2006 just this year we voted in decimal scoring.. If and only if it is tie. I think this is the fairest way possible of doing it

During the regular season in my league (weeks 1-13) I go with the single highest scoring bench players points and if that's the same I go with the team that DIDN'T have the highest scorer in the game (non luck factor) Like if you played against Larry Johnson and he exploded for 45 points that week and your highest guy had 23 then the non luck team would get the win... It's decent way to do it if both players bench guys have the same highest number..... I do the same in the playoffs, but I make it so you have to declare your guy you want in a tie-breaker situation... if by some insane way they tie... non luck factor again.... Marshall_Law 0 Posted July 23, 2006 In our league we do it by whoevers bench scores the most. I don't like this method. It punishes teams with injured players, or teams with multiple players on a bye. I prefer to choose a tie-breaker player.
semaj33 0 Posted July 23, 2006 use decimals....fractions of points...as fair as it gets.... if they tie after that...oh well it was meant to be...

Tripenny 0 Posted July 23, 2006 the 2 teams that tied meet up for a show down...Whoever can drink the most beer in 1 hour gets the win This is a little too close to the methods we have adopted in the past . . .
Phurfur 70 Posted July 23, 2006 We pick a tie break player from our bench as part of our starting lineup.

Vikings4ever 550 Posted July 23, 2006 Either use decimal scoring (in which there are very few, if any ties), or leave it a tie (ditto in the off chance there's a tie in a decimal scoring system). The only tie breaker is in the playoffs. The high seed wins in a tie, a form of home field advantage.
lguero1 4 Posted July 23, 2006 we go to high qb, then high RB, then high wrs, then high def, then high K, then coin flip. i tried incorporating something that included a trip to the local gentleman's club but this is what was voted upon by the league. i like that the high seed wins in case of a tie in the playoffs. g5jamz 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Use decimal yardage scoring from the outset...avoids a LOT of ties. 12 yards=1.2 points
shutdown 40 Posted July 24, 2006 We allow ties in the regular season. Even without decimal scoring there are only 3-4 ties every season. In the playoffs, I tried to mimic the NFL sudden death format. Its a little odd, but its different. Each team selects a tiebreak player. The home team's (higher seeded team) tiebreak player gets the first shot at scoring. If that player records a TD or FG the home team wins. If not, the lower seeded teams tiebreak player gets the same shot. Should he fail to score the higher seeded team advances. This has come into play only a handful of times in 5+ years and only once did the lower seeded team win. It kind of adds the element of home field advantage as well. Vertical Smiles 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Ties in the regular season are allowed to stand. However, we have implemented decimal scoring for kickers ONLY (.1 points pey length of field goal) to decrease the likelihood of a tie. Haven't had one tie yet (regular season or playoffs) since implementing it. In the playoffs, if there is still a tie on overall points, then the first tiebreaker is the total points scored by each teams kicker - head to head. Kickers often determine the outcome of games in the NFL, so we do the same. If this still results in a tie, then total points by each teams QB. If still a tie, then each teams Defense (head to head respectively). If still a tie, then we flip a freaking coin. We have always agreed that using the bench or reserve players to break a tie is not the way to go. If you weren't smart (or lucky) enough to have them in the active lineup, why should you be rewarded?
phillybear 366 Posted July 24, 2006 We use ties. Our tie breaking for the playoffs follow NFL guidelines. One year in fantasy basketball, were scores usually total between 200 and 300 per week, one team had 3 ties in 4 weeks. That was a kind of messy.
kutulu 1,676 Posted July 24, 2006 The entire league gathers together plus the families of the two teams that tied. Everyone in the league punches each of the the tied owners in the face while the families watch. Whoever bleeds the most is declared the loser.

Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted July 24, 2006 We let reg season ties stand. Think it adds to the playoff fun rather than detracting from it. In the playoffs, we use fractional scoring (to .01). Never had a tie in playoffs. I have tried to implement a bribe Da Commish system for years but never got anywhere.
