What would you guys do with this owner?

Recommended Posts

I have been commish of a league for 7 years now and 6 of those years one owner has been real bad about forgeting to make sure all his guys are playing. He always has an excuse for why he wasnt able to get his line up correct. <--bye weeks mostly I was going to not even invite him in the league this year, but other owners say he has been in the league six years, so leave him alone and we will take his money. I want to boot him to keep the league more competitive. What do you guys think?

I think that irks the sh1t out of me when it happens in my league...but I certainly understand your dilema. How about a money penalty for each owner that does it more than 3 times a season or something?

i don't even need to know what he did and know the answer to the question.

go to his house, punch him in the face in front of his wife/gf.

if you do this every week he messes up, he will soon learn not to mess up.

we've actually implemented the fine process in several of the leagues i'm in... but there are no warning opportunities -> if you start a guy who is listed as "out" or on bye, and you're not on a vacation that is more than seven days long, you owe $10.

I'd just tell him he's out. Who cares how long he's been in the league for. FF is not a game, it's life. If he can't commit enough to SET HIS LINEUP, then he doesn't deserve a spot in your league. Boot him.

We had a guy do that in our league last year... He is no longer in our league....

Does that answer how I would handle it?

Hold his mother hostage and send him a finger or toe every week he loses a game.

That'll be motivation to put his best lineup in.

I think this is in Chapter 1 of "Backyard Drills with Bill Parcells". He KNOWS how to instill a winning attitude in young men....

I think the $10 fine for having someone in your lineup who's out is a good idea. And for paying of the fine, 1 of 2 ways (or both): give owners 2 weeks to pay the fines - for every week that they haven't paid it, they cannot do transactions. AND, any owner who has not paid his fine by the end of the year will not be asked back the next season.

Don't forget to make sure the kids are present if there are any

That comment should become some sort of southwest commercial, "It must be football season"

LOL! Those are some good answers! Thanks guys! I have one week to make this decision. We have our lottery next week to determine draft position in our re draft league. Right now, I am leaning towards giving him the boot and saying good bye. If I have a change of heart, then I will certainly consider the face punch in front of the wife and go with the $10 fine.

I would first sit down with him and see if there is a problem. I had one guy who had been in the league for years and started doing the same thing. He was older and not computer literate to say the least. I found out that he began having eye problems and had a lot of trouble reading the screen.

So, because he was such a good guy, I would call him twice a week and assist him with trx and setting his lineup.

In any event, explain to him why it is not fair that his opponents randomly get to play less than a full squad and that if it continues this year he will not be invited back next year.

We have a guy who does this all the time.

Heck, one year he made it to the damm fantasy bowl vs me, and didn't even know he was in it.

We decided the next year to implement a $10 fee for the team with the lowest score each week.

This kept him involved enough to make sure he got a lineup in.

we have a $10 penalty as well for starting someone who is declared out or on a bye. If he continues to do it anyway, I would talk to him about it and possibly not invite him back next year. From my perspective, if you can't submit a valid starting lineup, then you don't really give a sh!t about the league. If you don't give a sh!t, then get out.

This may be a silly question considering that this league has been around for 7+ years, but how serious are the owners about this leauge? If the other owners take it seriously, I think you should boot him, and just be honest with him about why.

But before you do anything, you should talk to the other owners about what they think should be done. If the general consensus is that he's hurting the league, then for the good of your league you should kick him out.

My league has a League Integrity Rule to prevent jackasses like that from affecting other team's seasons.

The commish will set the lineup if a team leaves bye week or injured players in the lineup. They also get fined for even the 1st offense.

I would boot the guy, but if you keep him, adopt a similar rule.

Yeah but how angry is the owner that loses to Mr. forgetful's team after the Commish sets his lineup for him?

There are only two types of FF leagues: casual ones that will tolerate this and enjoy capitalizing on someone's oversights (which is fine but if you are posting on this site you are not in the casual category) & competetive ones that only accept owners who consider it a grievous offense not to notice that your RB#2 reported a twinge in his hammy 3 minutes before kickoff and play your RB#3 30 seconds before the submission deadline. The NFL.com free leagues would be the way to go for this guy...they love playing teams with bye-week starters there.

Setup a policy that goes as follows.

If you fail to enter your line up for bye weeks.

commish will assume your starters from the previous week and

(your choice now)

retain that line up as starting. Thus those on bye will score you a zero.

-Or-

Commish will substitute the lowest scoring starting player on your bench in place of your bye week player.

(now the question is, does this player auto start the next week, or was it just one week thing?)

having a policy like this in place is good regardless of if this guy returns.

Honestly, he should be kicked out. The fee is nice and all, but...

Most fantasy seasons are 13-14 weeks long... and the owner who benefits from the guy who didn't set up his line-up got a cheap win. It isn't fair to be the one or few guys who get to face a depleted team, vs the others that do.

No matter how you look at it, that owner just doesn't care as much as the other owners about your fantasy football league. You have to either kick him out, or else have it cost him enough money that he does care. I would just kick him out.

if his line-up is illegal then his roster is illegal, so i would fine him $$$$$ and points...then if he does it enough, tell him that you are trying to have a competetive league and hes a fukwad, and will not be allowed to play...then as they said above kick him, punch him...etc...

we have a 25$ fine in my league for submitting an illegal roster. You also forfeit that game, even if you win and you forfeit the points you scored (which in our leage counts towards the playoffs). It's a pretty stiff penalty and we don't have any problems setting line-ups.

I am a commish in a 12 team auction draft and I can remember one person starting someone who is out and forgot to change their lineup. The way I look at it is this: this person paid good money to be in the league and it's not my job to babysit their lineup. We are all grownups here..should be anyway.

yeah,

sounds great until the team he plays is the team that beats you out of the playoffs by 1/2 a game because the aforementioned a-hole didn't start a guy that would have given him that win, which would have put that team a 1/2 game behind you instead...

Personally, I like to be in a competitive league. Often times, you run into problems when a guy doesnt get his lineups in because of the way divisions break down in leagues. Some of the teams get to play the chump twice while others only play him once. Because I am a competitor, I say kick him out to keep things interesting and keep the problems to a minimum. Good luck.

for every bum we have that could benefit from an idiot's bad lineup, there is another bum that wants the guy who could benefit to lose. our meetings are from 6 to 9 pm and owners who forget to call in seem to always get an anonymous call. as commish, i don't make the calls but somehow it always happens.

oh yeah, we shove a living snake up his as$.
