Question on handling 2 for 1 trades

Our league has never allowed trades of unequal numbers of players (2 for 1, 3 for 2, etc.). I've been considering ways to allow this, but I'm not sure how it would work. We have always had a roster limit of 16 players. A 2-for-1 trade would give one team 17 players and the other 15, so we haven't allowed it.

 

Those of you who have experience with these types of trades: How does it work in your league?

 

Do you have a relaxed roster limit?

Does the team with 17 have to drop a player? Does the team with 15 have to add a player?

Do you charge a per-trade fee (say, $5 per trade) or per-player-traded fee (where one owner has to pay more than another)?

 

Any information you could give me on how this works in your league would be appreciated.

That's sort of lame to not allow that. It's easy, just set the roster limit and whoever gets the 2 for the 1 - it's up to them to adjust their roster accordingly to get in compliance with the rules (do a 2 for 1 after that, drop a player, etc.) If they don't, then they have an illegal roster and get a 0 for the week.

in a redraft we just always say that you have to throw in a scrub player to make it even or you can't do it, teams usually have a scrub to throw in. One league is a flat fee no matter how many players are traded, the other is a per player fee, either way works fine.

 

You could just say that you can carry extra players only if they are aquired in a trade. If a team is short a player that would be there problem I would think.

Ditto. If your roster is below the limit, no foul. If it's above the limit, then you have to drop a player. It's that simple.

 

Also, I don't know if your league has an add/drop fee. Ours does. The team adding 1 player pays once. The team adding 2 players pays twice.

If your site does not allow you to go over the limit the owner getting 2 players will have to cut someone before the trade. The owner getting one player will add someone after.

This is what we've done in the past -- have one team throw in a scrub to make it even. But I've had some complaints about that and wondered how others handle it.

in our league. Dynasty league. we have a roster minimum of 18 and maximum of 22.

 

So my suggestion woyuld be a roster minimum and maximum. But you have to allow for uneven deals. Not every trade made or offered are fair 1 player for 1 player.

We have 16 player roster and permit the unequal trades. The team that is short, if he decides to fill out his roster, has to pick up another player at the regular transaction fee - the team that is over the limit makes a free drop.

 

Every day the team is over the limit is an additional transaction fee and on game day is an illegal roster and a zero for the week.

We allow it. Would be gay not to. Since I am Da Commish I do the actual roster trx. So, I just ask the guy who is over the limit who he wants to drop thus only requiring me to adjust rosters once.

 

We don't charge fees. All that does is decrease activity. I collect a nominal fee for my time at the beginning of the year and owners can make as many or few trx as they want. Since I love FF I don't care about my hourly rate. The league appreciates my services enough that I am not allowed buy myself a beer at the draft and I drink as much as any of them. :lol:

Just have the team that is going to have to cut someone trade the guy they would have cut. Then if the other team doesn't want him, they can cut him and replace him with someone else. It's not rocket science.

All you have to do is set a roster limit. Because this way the guy getting more players is going to have to drop someone so he might as well just trade the guy he is going to drop.

Exactly what we do in my league of 10+ years. Team receiving the extra player MUST do the drop first before trade are approved.

like most people have said, the team gettin 2 just has to drop a player

 

if you still dont want to have uneven trades, make a rule that whoever gets the 2 players has to add in a player of their choosing to the trade
