crackshorts 0 Posted August 30, 2006 I know he is not a sleeper, but he is still going way to low in drafts....seriously he WILL get 10 catches a game! I predict he is number 1 TE when the year is finished.... Brady LOVES him! BEN WATSON!!!

Turcaso 1 Posted August 30, 2006 Since his last big game he is no longer under the radar. In 12 team drafts he is starting to go in the 8th. I was confortable taking him at 8.11, now it seems I will have to take him at 7.2 if I want to garantee Ben is on my roster in my money league.......I'm going to do it! wildbluefan 0 Posted August 30, 2006 I agree...I targeted him in all 4 of my drafts, and finally got him in my LAST DRAFT...this man is a beast and could easily put up Gates-like numbers this year ! he is a match-up problem for all teams , and Brady lokks his way about every-other play !!!
mattcoz 3 Posted August 30, 2006 Own him in all my leagues, but I expect him to be #2 behind Gates. By far the best value at the TE position though.
iamroboticus 0 Posted August 30, 2006 While I don't want to lather him with too much hype, I think Ben Watson should ascend to top-5 TE status this year, especially given Branch's protracted holdout. Watson may be Brady's #1 target, but that Pats offense spreads the ball around too much for Watson to approach the amount of looks and touches that Gates will get as the consensus #1 TE. However, at this point, Watson is probably a much greater value pick unless Gates falls to lower 3rd/early 4th round. In a 10-teamer, where do you think Watson should be picked? How about an 8-team league?

BirdBradyBobbyOrr 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Won't happen. I'm the biggest Pats homer on this board. It will be Gates, Gonzo, Shockey, or Heap, but Watson will be top 6. Watson is as talented or more talented then any of them. But Brady will not focus on him exclusively liek FrankenDrew did to Coates as Drew Bledsoe probably cost Coates about 4 years on his career by throwing to him in double and triple coverage over and over again. Watson is a steal but no way would I take him as early as the big 3 are going
Verbal Kent 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Owning Pats WR or TE's is like owning Denver RB's. You never know what's gonna happen.

Franknbeans 46 Posted August 30, 2006 I took him at 7.1. A bit of a reach but I didn't think he'd be there at 8.12.

xenophobe 1 Posted August 30, 2006 I like Watson, too. But I think this is a bit of a stretch. I don't think NE has even has a RECEIVER who has put up numbers that would qualify them as the #1 TE.
football_scooter 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Agreed...and stealing my thunder I have him on my All-Gut Check Squad...can't believe this guy was going as late as he was... between Watson in the 11th (and this was after his 8 catch, 94 yards/TD performance) and Owens at 4.07, I'm not sure which I'm more stoked about. Watson is going to be a stud - potentially the leading receiver on the Pats. Brady has as much as said this when he said that he expects a "huge breakout season" from him. And uh, since Brady's the one responsible for gettinghim the ball, I think that's as good an indicator as anything.

TD Ryan2 316 Posted August 30, 2006 between Watson in the 11th (and this was after his 8 catch, 94 yards/TD performance) I haven't heard anyone mention this, so I will: It's worth noting that early in that game, Watson came out and had to have one of his fingers taped up... the quick view we got from the camera looked like his pinky finger was twisted and contorted in an odd angle. I don't know what he did to that finger, but I do know that after he came back into the game, Brady under-threw him and Watson was unable to haul it in with his fingertips (perhaps because the fingers weren't working too well?). Either way, the guy put up those ridiculous numbers with his fingers taped together on one hand and I believe we'll see lots more success from him this season. unckeyherb 2 Posted August 30, 2006 mcmichael will be the best TE this year. yeah thats why I took him in the 10th round. 2 rounds after taking Ben Watson
Franknbeans 46 Posted August 30, 2006 I like Watson, too. But I think this is a bit of a stretch. I don't think NE has even has a RECEIVER who has put up numbers that would qualify them as the #1 TE. They put up 12 TD's (combined) from the TE position last year. That includes Vrabel's TD's down by the goal line.
MikeMoses 0 Posted August 30, 2006 What happens to his numbers once Branch is back...which will happen BTW? Does his numbers tail off from what everyone is expecting? Don't get me wrong I agree that he is an up and coming TE but with the way Brady likes to spread the ball around and Branch coming back after Sept. 1 I don't see him being the guy everyone keeps saying....50 to 60 receptions, maybe 700 to 800 yards, 6 TD's? HOWEVER, if Branch somehow decides to continue his holdout I see his numbers being better than they've ever been.
xenophobe 1 Posted August 30, 2006 They put up 12 TD's (combined) from the TE position last year. That includes Vrabel's TD's down by the goal line. Brady also threw for 4000 yards last year and not a single receiver over 1000. The whole point is they spread the ball around far too much in NE. The fact that Vrabel would be "stealing" TDs from the guy tells you something right there. Their whole formula is to get it around to a lot of guys. That's been a key component of their success and I don't expect that to change. They have the best QB in the league and have been winning SBs for years but they never produce fantasy studs in the receiving game -even when their QB leads the league in passing. Might that change this year? Sure. Not exactly sure what the catalyst would be though. You got guys like Gates and Tony G with unreal tallent and their teams entire passing game built around them. That's going to be difficult for Watson to compete with.

That's going to be difficult for Watson to compete with. Which is why he's being drafted later than them. What I don't get is how a guy like Vrabel even sniffs 4 TD catches in a season. I mean, they get down by the goal line and all of a sudden Vrabel is lining up at TE. Here's a thought defensive coordinators, put someone on him!

Dimenally 1 Posted August 30, 2006 I have wood for him - loved him going into my draft and actually got him in Round 11 - pick 123, behind 11 other TE's. Only Troupe, Vernon Davis, and Putzier went after him. Needless to say, I was pretty happy.

crackshorts 0 Posted August 30, 2006 WOW! I posted this earlier and never logged in until now! Glad to see everyone is as hyped up as me! And to the guy who is the biggest Pats homer....think again, I have had season tix for 8 years and never miss the games! By the way, I did not even get him in my draft which all Pats go early, so I avoid them...but I am just saying he is gonna be HUGE and glad to see all the reaction! Watson is the new Big Ben.....Rothleburger can BITE ME! (that aughta stir up some anger )
