Take Emmitt out of the equation and Sanders still isn't even close to the best RB of all time. Long list of guys that were much better at the postion. Sanders had way too many shortcomings for the position to even be considered. Great athlete, poor overall running back.

LAWL! I've been away for nearly a year...and looky here! I find this post again! Right at the top of the page too!

Barry = more fun to watch, huge gamebreaking ability

Emmitt = more consistent/durable.

Emmitt = NO CLASS, anyone who says he was 'a diamond amonst trash' in dallas, the team who he was with the majority of his career is just a jackass. he went to 'zona to pad his stats not for the love of the game, then cried when he got his ass kicked by 'the trash', it's a shame he holds the all-time rushing record

Yes there may be better RB's than Barry but still.....

Barry>>>>>>>Emmitt

Yeah, his teams were so crappy, he was such a one man team that he was on the first team in NFL history to have two wr's both have 100 catches and 1000 yds. Herman Moore was an elite wr in his days with Detroit....short lived days, but none the less.

Biggest misconception of all time.....Barry played on "crappy teams". They weren't near what Emmitt helped make the Cowboys, but they were far from crappy.

As for the best ever: Gotta go to Emmitt and I can't stand the Cowboys....but I can easily see Payton or Brown being a great argument.

 He's not the first great to find it difficult to walk away. Look at Jerry Rice he would be playing this season if someone would give him the roster spot. It has nothing to do with compiling stats but then a loser who never played the game wouldn't understand a guy just not wanting it to end. And not to mention that the final season Emmitt played he was a 1,000 yard back on a truly crappy team. If he wanted to pad stats he surely could have played one more season and just added to his totals.

Why the gaylords of the Barry Sanders "I've been out of the league 20 years" fanclub believe people even give a flying fishfock is beyond me.

BTW, Walter Peyton, Gale Sayers, and Jim Brown were all better than Sanders. HTH.

More Durable? Please

Barry missed 7 games in 10 seasons

Emmitt missed 14 games in 15 seasons

Cnsidering the likelyhood that RBs miss more time with age, I'd call it a draw.

7-9

6-10

12-4

5-11

10-6

9-7

10-6

5-11

9-7

5-11

1 time with more than 10 wins, no consistancy at qb until 1995, dont say he played on some real good football teams

Jim Brown

Played 9 seasons, led the NFL in rushing 8 times.

Career 5.2 yards per carry

Never missed a game.

Owned the career records for rushing yards, tds and rushing tds the day he retired at age 30, still in his prime.

Handoff to Sanders running to the right. There's no hole. He cuts back to the left. But , ooooohhhh, he's tackled for a 7 yard loss. Lions are out of field goal position yet again. But gee, when he's NOT completely fuking his team over he sure looks good doesn't he Howard?

No argument there, but Brown didn't have ebay to pawn off his game-TD footballs on either.

If Bobby Ross wasn't such an ass maybe Barry would have played a bit longer and held all the records.

Barry= crybaby quitter.

HTH

Didnt feel like getting into another one of these dumb threads....but ...

Cry baby quitter?.......considering you see him all over TV and what not crying out to the world..

The man didnt want to play football anymore....his choice, you stop  over HIS choice...

AT least he didnt stick out and become a below average RB to see how many more yds he could gain....

Sorry guys, Barry was great, but Walter Payton and Jim Brown were both better than Barry. Barry is third on the list of Best RB Ever.

LMAO at all the Barry "lovers". Any RB who comes trotting off the field when Detroit is inside the opponant 5 yard line cant be considered greatest of all time. Lets not even talk about his pathetic attempt at blitz pickup.

It's also tough for me to put Jim Brown as the best of all time because for 1. I never saw him actually play and 2. During his career he was running against 5'11 185 pound white line backers lol.

Emmit was the best (as the record book shows) with Payton a close 2nd.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. The Hall of Fame says otherwise.

There are alot of players that aren't in the Hall that deserve to be there even more than some of the guys that made it in. So poor choice to back up your claim. As far as his athleticism and running ability Sanders was great, probably the most gifted athlete to play. As far as his overall skills required for the position he was decidedly lacking in several areas. He was not a good blocking back so he did little to help his quarterback in the passing game when defenses blitzed (which they often did knowing his limitations). He wasn't a good short-yardage back and was often pulled in goal line situations. He wasn't the most talented receiver out of the backfield. Not to mention he is the all-time leader in negative yardage. He killed hundreds of drives looking for those two or three highlight runs each week. About as far from a complete back as you can get.

I wonder about Brown myself. He was a man among boys. How would he produce against faster bigger defensive players of today. I'm sure the guy would still be a stud but maybe not the monster he was during his day.
