Roethlisberger vows revenge on Falcons players that taunted him

Big Ben says Falcons player taunted him

PITTSBURGH - Ben Roethlisberger won't have any trouble remembering the hit that gave the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback his latest concussion.

``It felt like it busted my whole jaw,'' he said Wednesday.

He also won't forget the crude comment made by one of the three Atlanta Falcons players who, while sacking him Sunday, apparently taunted Roethlisberger by saying he wanted to hit him in his surgically repaired face.

``The last thing I remember is throwing to Hines (Ward) and I tried to duck out of it, and as I tried to duck out of it I remember getting hit in the chin - it felt like I busted my whole jaw or something,'' he said. ``One of their players said something to me and that's the last thing I remember.''

He declined to identify the player who talked about the facial injuries the quarterback received during his June motorcycle crash, but said: ``I'll remember his number.''rink

Unless they meet in the post season they aren't scheduled to play each other again until 2010. I doubt that BigDumb's concussion ridden noggen can hold a grudge that long.

Big Ben and the Steelers.... most hated team in the NFL. Nothing gets a rise out of the board than Big Ben and the Steelers. It's fun. Most in here wish Ben never came back from that motorcycle injury....wish he was knocked out of the league last week "go back to sleep???" Please. Can't imagine feeling that way about a simple football player?

Whether you like Big Ben or not, you have to give him credit for saving the Steeler's season last year with the tackle after Bettis's fumble vs. Indy (that one was going to be a defensive TD for Indy, and the end of the season for the Steelers). Note: I'm not a Steelers or Big Ben fan...

According to published reports, the Atlanta taunting was exceedingly cruel and uncalled for. To quote....

Most hated team? Most weeks it's Dallas, sometimes it's the Eagles, Patriots, Raiders take your pick.

Or did you mean most hated because they were given the SB?

You must have missed the last 2 games Ben has played in....he has played flawless which is probably why guys like you wish he were still sleeping.

Steelers have a franchise QB just beginning his 3rd season. Lead a team to AFC Championship game his first year and to a Superbowl win in his second year.

He had a motorcycle accident and appendix surgery, so he was rusty the first 3 games, sorry if I don't panic about that. He regained his rhythm and had 5 straight quarters of perfect QB rating and has thrown 5 TDs to zero INTs in his last 7 quarters. He is hardly the reason they lost the Atlanta game. And for his only turnover the last 2 weeks (the fumble)...Hartings admitted he snapped it without the proper signal from Ben.

Yeah, Steeler fans really wish he hadn't come back.

Get a clue.

I don't know why the Steelers have some wierd obsession with absolutely playing Big Ben when he's not 100% healthy. Like the game against Jacksonville, it looked like he was in pain some of the time throughout the game and of course Big Ben is going to say he's fine because he wants to play, but the smart thing to do is for him to heal up 100% and then get back to playing, especially with Charlie Batch playing so well. Just rest him this week against the Raiders team you could beat without Big Ben and let him heal up completely and shake off the full effects of the hit and then let him return. I just don't see what the big rush is.

Awesome! I love ya, FlaHawker.

Ben is done. One more hit on his light bulb head and he's out for the season. I don't have any personal animosity toward Ben, but all the crap the Steelers are having to put up with this season is just fair play since last year's Stupor Bowl.

Actually... most credit Harper's wife for stabbing him in the knee the night before the game. Thus slowing him down for the run-back.

Met her once at a ballgame. Nice lady. Not sure what the stabbing was about and you know... didn't ask. :ninja:

Did Bill Leavy also get in the way of your linebackers when Fast Willie darted 74 yards?

To all Seattle fans, be happy you made it to the Superbowl. It won't happen again for another 40 years, even playing in the piss poor NFC!

I thought that he was knocked out on the turf. Wouldn't team members start a fight if they heard something like that come out of the mouth of their opponents if their franchise lay on the ground? but no, they did not.

So are the steelers soft now?

let's look at some facts:

The Play

A. The ball was snapped to ben with 5 seconds left on the play clock. The play lasted for a duration of 3 seconds from snap to hit/incompletion to hines ward (who swatted angrily at the turf).

B. The camera cut back to ben on the turf at 7 AFTER THE PLAY STARTED. At that time there were shots of legs on the field. one of them appeared to belong to a ref (striped socks), one appeared to belong to a steelers' lineman (black topped socks;the falcons wore red tops) and another leg walked into the shot (looked like another steelers' player leg) late before they cutaway to a replay.

The Hit

A. From the time when there were 3 falcons defenders within 1-2 yards of ben (who were being blocked or not being blocked into him) only 1 second came off of the clock.

B. While ben was taking his first of 3 hits, (2 falcons defenders from the front and right side) another falcons defender (#59) shows up and invades ben's personal space at the 3 second mark.

*************************

So, also, did the falcons defensive linemen really say those things? And if so when?

a. While the play was developing (2 second duration from snap to planting in the pocket; with georgia dome crowd noise factored in)

b. While the hit was in progress (1 second duration from plant to hit; with georgia dome crown noise factored in)

c. Or is ben really just able to hear other players' thoughts like that cop on heroes ;)

I want him to stay healthy actually so he can continue to get exposed by the NFL. That team can win just as much with Chaz Batch at the controls of the offense. That should tell you something.

To those Ben haters who thinks he sucks.

He struggled the first 3 games after coming back from near fatal crash and an appendix surgery...then.

I guess most haven't watch Ben throw a perfect game vs. KC, and 5 TDs in his last 7 quarters with no INTs. I guess you didn't watch the playoffs last year when STeelers had no run game and relied on Ben to get the early lead in every game? I guess you haven't noticed he is doing it with the likes of Cedrick Wilson and Nate Washington. I guess you haven't noticed the run game was totally non-existent vs. Atlanta, yet Ben continued to carve apart that defense anyway.

He just began his 3rd year in the NFL and is still learning things.

People act like he has been a QB in the NFL for 7 years or something.

have you seen the replay?

NONE OF THE FALCONS PLAYERS LANDED ON TOP OF HIM!

#92 landed on top of #59

#97 landed on the turf

Ben landed on the turf by himself.

They all hit him, but none landed on top of him. Ben landed on the turf and lay in his "listening for footsteps" position until the trainers came out.

Poor Ben. Apparently smacking his brain into the windsheild did worse damage than originally thought

a co-worker of mine told me that her sister deals with brain trauma victims. and she said that ben will never be the same after his accident. he will be okay, but he will never be the same person/player that he was.

his head and brain flew through the air hit a windshield and cracked it.

You have a friend who deals with brain trama victims, that's great cause unlike what is being perceived, Ben had a very mild concussion from the crash. His face and windshield took most of the blow. Read all the news reports.

Funny, the Steelers have the best brain trauma experts in the country and cleared him to play before season and all brain scans have been normal since his crash and even after his last hit...yet your friend's sister can diagnose Ben without talking to him, without seeing the MRI's, without testing him at all. Neurologists have tested him and say he is good to go, but not your friend's sister.

Sounds like wishfull thinking on your part. Why the hatred for Ben? Has he done something to you?

And as for never being the same player again....I think Ben played his best 2 games of his career vs. KC and Atlanta, both very good teams. You can't play any better than he did the last 2 weeks.

what do you perceive as hate?

i am listing facts.

he lost a game against the pats....days later we hear about an injury that we knew nothing about.

we hear about a death bed fever before he suits up on MNF and it turns out that the numbers were wrong.

he gets jacked up and just like a jason " i will cry, but not mention the word steriods" giambi press conference, people hear and see what they want to hear. it was a clean hit. no flags were thrown. no penalties or fines were issued. and then days later it comes out that a player that he will not name said something.

it could have been his own o-lineman! :dunno:

i drafted and owned the feller several times, i have no reason to hate him.

comments like "ben go back to sleep" makes me think you would rather have him in a wheelchair or permanently knocked out than on the field playing....He will never be the same....oh my friend's sister said so.

So you hate him cause ESPN (like the idiots they are) reported a 104 degree temp when the Steelers reported 100.4? You hate him cause they lost a playoff game to the Pats and the media reports an unconfirmed injury? You hate him cause he complained he got a cheap shot and someone talked smack to him?

Very mild things must set you off. Are you married? I doubt it if these irrelevant things spring such hatred.

You have broken down game film frame by frame, second by second trying to call Ben out. That is some kind of strange obsession you got going on there buddy.

I don't know what the point of your play-by-play was all for, if you don't think this really happened. If you don't that's fine, but Ben said it did so it must have. Unless his mind is really, really gone?

I live in Atlanta, so I dispelled the myths. They are discussed here on sports-talk radio all day long. And please excuse me for seeing and listing what actually happened frame-by-frame just because I HAVE THE ABILITY to do so. Using a $35,000 tape deck has its privledges.

Super Bowl officiating comments shouldn't really bother Steelers fans. Sure, the officiating played a role in the game, but so did a lot of other things than people don't want to acknowledge. People will ###### about the penalties no matter how many replays show Jackson's arm extended or a beaten Locklear with his hand pulling from the side on Haggans' shoulder pads. Doesn't make my Super Bowl XL DVD any less enjoyable to watch, that's for sure!

But I'm not sure why the blown call on Polamalu's INT in the Colts' game is so overlooked. People remember Vanderjagt's missed field goal and say the Steelers got lucky, but no one seems to want to remember that if Polamalu's INT is ruled correctly, the game is over long before then. You know, the one where he picked off Manning, landed, rolled over, got up, and then knocked the ball out of his own hand with his knee?

Ben played awesome in the playoffs before the Super Bowl, and looked that way against the Chiefs and Falcons before he got sandwiched... he was just starting to get back into form, and I just hope the Steelers don't rush him back this time before he's really ready. I don't want to see him shying away from contact and throwing off his back foot like he was against Jacksonville and Cincinnati.

Okay, so it's your contention that Ben dreamt it all and that it didn't really happen, despite him saying so. Or perhaps it's your contention that as he lay on the ground concussed yet again that maybe a trainer, while kneeling over him, said something about his face and he thought it was a Falcons player. You know, because he was all whacked out anyway?

In any case, you are contending it didn't happen, despite what Ben has said. Okay, no biggie. I doubt many will believe you here but so be it.

did YOU NOT SAY THIS?

you:

"So it's your contention that none of this happend? That Ben apparently dreamt the mean things that he says the Falcons player said to him as he was on the turf with 3 Falcons on top of him?"

ben:

On Wednesday, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said a Falcons defensive player he wouldn't name taunted him about his surgically repaired face before sacking him - the play in which the Super Bowl-winning quarterback received a concussion.

***********

but if you read what ben said, it could have happened anytime from during pre-game warm ups up until he got jacked up. it could have happened sometime earlier in the game, but it did not happen on that play.

now please find out who the 3 falcons that were on top of him were. i have never seen or heard that description or quote listed anywhere dr. seuss!

you made up more stuff than ben did....
