Saddam - sentenced to death for killing 148

Recommended Posts

You're gonna need some better bait.

3,000 soldiers and thousands of Iraqi civilians were killed as a result of Bush's policies - is that better than ordering about 150 dead?

Been months since I signed in under that name. It wasn't much of an "alias" since I admit it from the start.

Anything other than talking about Bush's crimes vs. Saddam's crimes I guess ...

The interesting part is that he is being hanged for crimes comitted in 1982.

1983

Wow, so he's being hanged for crimes committed when he was allies with Donald Rumsfeld, our former secretary of defense under George W. Bush?

Wow.

I can't believe people call Stalin and Hitlers monsters and Truman gets a free pass for killing hundreds of thousands at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

While I do think that what Truman did was a crime against humanity and a despicable act, it can somewhat be defended by the fact that it was committed in self-defense; that IMO makes it moderately better than Stalin and Hitler's crimes. Those two also killed many more people.

Yep, it saved thousands of American lives, so in MDC's world it is despicable.

It is debateable whether such an extreme measure was necessary to save thousands of American lives.

Ah I didn't really see your point before. Yeah, conventional warfare would've resulted in many US casualties. I'm just saying it was morally questionable to save the lives of thousands of American soldiers by killing hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians. I wouldn't put it up there with Hitler or Stalin - they both killed millions - but it was in some ways an evil act.

At any rate, why are we talking about WWII? It is even less like Iraq than Vietnam.

The fact you have no idea what debates went on before ordering the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki tells me you have no credibility when it comes to military decisions. Read a little history, boy.

Estimates of U.S. casualties from a Japan invasion was much higher than the estimated 200K from the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The firebombings of Tokyo, Kobe, and some 60 other Japanese cities prior to the nukes killed many more civilians than the nukes did, but I don't see you whining about that.

And fock your "morally questionable" drivel, it was war and we used the available technology to save as many Americans as possible and end it as soon as possible.

Yeah, MDC fails to mention the other trial coming up (Which Saddam wont be alive for) where he is going to be found guilty of killing upwards of 100,000 kurds. So even if you are just playing a numbers game... youre wrong.

And Im not even going to go into youre obviously flawed reasoning on the difference bewteen sending in voluntary troops and directly murdering people.

I asked because I did not know there was a second trial coming up - got a link?

I'm not talking about just the troops Bush sent in - about 45,000 Iraqi civilians have died since the war started. Granted, a big portion of them were killed in the sectarian violence, but some of them (certainly more than 150) were killed in the initial invasion / bombing and Bush is ultimately responsible for sparking the violence over there so he bears some responsibility for what happened.

So Bush should go to jail because some innocent civilians where killed by us?

Team Revell brought up WWII. You just took the ball and ran with it to change the subject.

So Bush should go to jail because some innocent civilians where killed by us?

No because that happens in every war. He should go to jail for lying us into an unnecessary war that has resulted in tens of thousands of civilians dead.

You have persistently kept up the WWII comparison even though the war in Iraq is absolutely nothing like that conflict.

I've linked you to lies by the Bush admin over and over again - you are willfully blind.

Team Revell brought up WWII. I'm not a fan of the comparison. In WWII we were fighting a mortal threat posed by actual nations and we'd been attacked. In Iraq we're policing sectarian violence while fighting insurgents and some foreign terrorists for ambiguous reasons. Apples and oranges.

No, you haven't linked to one lie yet. But since it is so easy mebbe you can try again.

Or did Bill, Hitlery, John Kerry, Edwards, Daschle, Reid, yada...yada....yada... all lie as well.

Bill, Hillary, Kerry, Edwards, etc. had different intelligence than Bush and none of them pulled the trigger on actually launching an invasion.

They had the same intel.

Still no lie to show?

BTW: for the first 30 posts of this thread lies had nothing to do with you wanting Bush either executed or thrown in jail, it was only after you realized I painted you into a corner on the whole innocent civilian death issue that you pulled "Bush lied, people died" BS out of your ass.
