edjr 6,611 Posted January 24, 2007 $5.99 for a movie that won't even let you record? You can buy a focking movie for $15 and keep it for life. Are people really that focking dumb? Christ, you can get 3 movies at a time from netflix for $15 a month. What is the world coming to, when comcast can get away with charging 6 bucks for a movie rental? phillybear 366 Posted January 24, 2007 $5.99 for a movie that won't even let you record? You can buy a focking movie for $15 and keep it for life. That's if it's brand new. You can buy many, many DVDs for $5 to $12 bucks, and keep it for life. Hell, most used DVDs are $5 bucks or less.

TD Ryan2 316 Posted January 24, 2007 I believe the comcast rentals run from $1.99 to $5.99. the $5.99 variety are for newer HD movies. Comcast is a thieving scam to begin with, so I am by no means defending them. I'm just saying that most people renting DVD's are not renting HD DVDs and do not have an HD DVD player. You're also paying for the instant convenience of on-demand. Again, I'm not defending them. Their pricing is outrageous. But at least they can claim that they're offering better quality and more convenience.

supermike80 1,943 Posted January 24, 2007 More proof of the lazyness of the american public. Thats EXACTLY the point. There are potentially BILLIONS of dollars out there to be made that relate to the laziness of the American consumer. Just have to find it. But it is out there. However, charging the same 4.99 they used to still seems sufficient. It amazes me that people would pay such an outrageous price for a movie they can't eeven record. My monthly comcast bill is $120 as it is, paying them anymore than that is just silly.
kutulu 1,685 Posted January 24, 2007 I recently downgraded my cable. I was going to go to the bare bones, but Comcast met me halfway. Now I am getting channels 2-100, instead of going down to 2-22 (I had the 2-300 or something...whatever it was that had the NFL network). Anyway, now channels 2-100 at 50% the reg. price for six months.
Cdub100 3,940 Posted January 24, 2007 First the price is not "outrageous" The price is set where people are willing to pay. For a family of 4 paying $6 for a movie is cheap entertainment. Are there better options out there? Sure like netflick or B.B., but you morons pay for convenience every day how is this any different? Some people only watch a movie once so why would they pay 15-20 dollars to buy it when they can watch it for $6? It's Friday night the family is bored and wants to do something you can either: A. Drive to your local video store rent a movie watch it and have to return it in a day or two $4-$5 + gas B. Tell nextflix you want to watch this movie, but you're not getting it until Monday night anyway so now what? C. Pay $6 and get exactly what you want.

I'm already paying them 120 a month, why should I have to pay them more? They should throw in a couple movies for free. If it was a service I didn't already have, fine 6 bucks is a good price. I'm not paying the Theatre anything unless I use it.

TimmySmith 2,782 Posted January 24, 2007 Verizon FIOS just opened in my area a whole $15 cheaper than Comcast. I figure I should at least play them off of each other.

Don't they have a crap load of free movies on the on demand system? I know I do, maybe you should check that out. If you don't like their service switch to the dish. TD Ryan2 316 Posted January 24, 2007 it's true Ed. if you're paying $120 for Cable TV, you probably have about 150 Standard Def Channels, 60 HD Channels, and probably a pay station or two (HBO, SHO, MAX) each of which has 4 or 5 channels of their own. And there's the entire On-Demand menu which has so much crap, it's actually a bit of a labyrinth trying to navigate thru it all. yet you still can't find something on TV to watch except what they're charging $5.99 extra for? Here's what you've got to do: - stop watching so much TV. even if you stop for only 6 months, you'll then be so far behind the curve that the FREE on-demand movies will be NEW to you and every HBO movie won't be a re-run (to you). I was saying as a society we're pretty lazy if people pay 6 dollars to rent a movie from a company they are already being fleeced by.

And I'm saying that's actually pretty cheap entertainment for a family. What if the closet video store is 10 miles away. That's a 40 mile trip total just to rent a 4.99 movie. Are you saving money by not using the gas? I don't know, it all depends on your situation. In the end decides what they are willing to pay. Who knows maybe you're right and nobody uses the service so they lower the price to $5. Is that better? Maximize your utility.
