NewbieJr 541 Posted January 29, 2007 Artie who? I put the "Howard Stern fans" part in my thread title realizing that non-Stern fans would probably not know him. I thought that there was no way anyone would be stupid enough to bother commenting on the thread if they didn't listen to Stern. I was wrong.
usurpers26 26 Posted January 29, 2007 I kind of agree...but then again his weight/drug use has see-sawed for years now. Hopefully he keeps ticking for another 4 years - he's a funny dude. GobbleDog 996 Posted January 29, 2007 I just got Sirius for Christmas, so I hadn't heard Stern for a couple years. Now that I'm listening again, I remember how much I hate non-stop inside jokes. “Hey boss, I saw Beth, ‘Bigfoot’ and Artie up at the bar the other night and they were all hammered.” {insert long unfunny story}

usurpers26 26 Posted January 29, 2007 Not really anything new. He's supposedly gained so much weight over the last year (he's up to like 295 - they weigh him in every once in a while) since he's stopped snorting H. Havent listened in over a year. football_scooter 0 Posted January 29, 2007 I just got Sirius for Christmas, so I hadn't heard Stern for a couple years. Now that I'm listening again, I remember how much I hate non-stop inside jokes. “Hey boss, I saw Beth, ‘Bigfoot’ and Artie up at the bar the other night and they were all hammered.” {insert long unfunny story} show jumped the shark when Jackie left. It was never as funny since. There's really nothing funny about the same bits being regurgitated again and again ad naseum. Those bits were funny once. Stern is 1/100 as funny as he was when Jackie was feeding him lines over the computer. You only heard Jackie like 10% of the time, but 95% of what Stern said was Jackie's material. That show sucked the minute Jackie left. I was a die-hard listener for years. The other thing that bugged the hell out of me was when Stern got divorced. The endearing quality he had was that he had all these hot porn stars and whatnot throwing themselves at him, but he was this normal, everyman dad type who was a loyal and faithful husband/father. Private Parts did a nice job capturing this - but then by the time Stern was making he movie, he & his wife were already well on thier way to divorce. But millions of people became fans from seeing the "softer" side of Stern. Unfortunately, by the time they saw it, it was all a lie. I'm so over Howard Stern - he's an arrogant pr!ck who treats people like garbage in RL, but pretends to be a nice guy on the show. F stern.
usurpers26 26 Posted January 29, 2007 Wow - I think there is a huge difference in quality when you compare the last couple of FM years to their first year on Sirius... The prank phone calls are still funny. And listening to them comment on the news is humorous. But other than that, it's the same stuff with a lot more cursing. Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted January 29, 2007 Howard Stern was selfish and cheap and his show has suffered since not paying Jackie what he was worth. I stopped listening to the show around that time. I love all of the critiquing by people that don't even listen to the show. Jackie blew it. He is back doing his "Joke Hunt" show on Howard 101. He was never that funny. Personally, I thought Jackie was pretty funny, but in a silly way. He would have probably been much funnier on satellite, because much of his humor plays better to an unregulated environment. Artie is funny for his stories, one-liners, and self-deprecating humor. Different style than Jackie, but definitely funny. Overall, the show is much better now than it was before. They can go much closer to the edge than they used to. Sometimes, even I am grossed out and that never happened before.

If you want gross & uncensored, just look at the pic of tubgirl. To me, all the Stern show has become is a never ending series of boring guests and "tubgirl moments". I find intelligent humor far more stimulating - sometimes it's funnier to dance on that fine line than to leap over it. It's a lot harder to work "clean" and the edginess was what made Stern funny. As for Jackie, you have no focking clue what you're talking about. Jackie's contribution was not what came out of Jackie's mouth, but rather what came out of Stern's mouth. As I stated: 95% of what Stern said was Jackie's dialogue fed to stern over the monitor - he was so quick witted and clever. You can't say you think Howard comes off as funny as he used to be without Jackie - it's unpossible. Howard Stern is more graphic and R-Rated now, but that's about it - compared to the old days, there's just no comparison. The show has lost all of the charm and creativity it once had, and is now a never ending series of fart jokes. Boring.

I have actually been suprised by his quick one-liners during interviews and they are not the result of Jackie, Artie or anyone else. Let me ask you this. Although I agree that show isn't what it was in the eighties and early nineties, you can't judge it from the last few years on FM. The show was being so closely watched by the FCC, that it was on a delay and every line was being revued by a guy to determine what could be aired or not. The show really sucked in 2004 and 2005. That being said, it is much, much better on satellite. It isn't just a bunch of guys swearing, either. Artie's storytelling is great, and some of the song parities are hilarious. Like I said, I'd take show from fifiteen'twenty years ago over anything that was ever on radio, including the Sirius version, but it is head and shoulders above what it was reduced to on FM, recently.
