Get over it. I'm all for fixing a fvcked up America, but let's not start by hurting the Bears chances of a SB win.

I am not arguing against the crimes... I am arguing against the fact that the punishment for the crimes weren't carried out as they were intended to be. As the article states, the regular average person would not be granted such latitude.

Also, I did a search on this and just found threads with speculation that this was coming, but did not find any thing on the forearm that said it was official.

Amazing he gets to play. But then again Shawn Merriman is caught cheating and finishes second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Albert Haynesworth IMHO should have never been allowed on a football field again. But he's back and the Titans D looked good. So all is forgiven.

The NFL is all about the players. Whatever they want and do is alright as long as the $$ keeps rolling in. And when Tank is gone, there will be someone else to play his spot and make the owners their LARGE$

So it really isn't surprising he's playing. Its the NFL..

He didn't get "caught cheating," he tested positive for nandrolone. He served his suspension anyways, kicked ass in the 12 games he played, why are you gonna ###### about him finishing 2nd in defensive player of the year voting?

The whole Tank Johnson "saga" was a huge fuckup, one in which the cops came out with eggs on their faces. He has a license for every gun. Another thing for the media to hype.

A Bunch of hypocritical, self-reightous, BS in this thread and that article.

1. Tank Johnson is playing the Super Bowl b/c he has a good lawyer. Did being a professional football player help him get a good lawyer. Of course. So what.

2. Many other people in this country with access to good lawyers and an employment siutation that allowed for an average of 50% travel would be allowed to do the same thing.

3. Who the hell or any of you or Ian Focking Johnson to say what Tanks legal restrictions should be? We have a legal system that allows for elected or appointed judges to earn a living making those decisions.

BTW there are reports saying that all of Johnson's guns were registered in Arizona where he has a residence. And that they are moreso collector's items than street weapons.

4. So Tank appears to be a young guy who has made some very bad decisions and is a bad neighbor. Ok . . . He sure as hell is wasting a lot of time, money, and energy on legal matters and will get himself locked up 4 real it he continues. But he makes a lot of $$$ over a short period of time b/c he's big and athletic not because he's public official material. If he doesnt get his chit together then hes gonna fock up a good gig and possibly have worse consequences like prison or what happened to his man. But thats on him.

5. Whats wrong with a guy earning his paycheck while trying to get his act together? Didnt know there were so many criminologist and psychologist in here. As an American and a football fan Id rather see the guy go to work then sit at home with free time on his hands.

Good posting. This is the part of Super Bowl week that I hate. Some nobody writer trying to make a name for himself rehashing old sh#t in the name of the "moral high ground".

There are plenty of examples of NFL players getting off lightly already listed in this thread. What about Leonard Little killing someone while driving drunk? How much jail time did he serve? All of us would be in jail. Jamal Lewis serving only one year for his drug deal? We don't even need mention the Bengals.

Unfortunately, this is how things are. Those with money and/or a public profile tend to get off lightly. Don't act like this disgusts you because it's something new.

It's nothing new. But that doesn't ever make it right, does it?

VaTerp, you have to be kidding right? Merriman was suspended for an illegal performance enhancing substance. Period. The name matters very little, the bottom line is he was suspended, but you state he kicked ass the other 12 games.

YOU are the problem, Merriman deserves no special awards for performance, none. Until he tests every week clean.

You make exuses and it leads to posts that this is a sad state when guys like Tank get to play.

And who cares if the guns were registered in AZ? The guns were in Ill. AND his friend was shot dead in front of him the week(?) before? That all adds up to trouble.

Good lawyers get people off, that doesn't make it right.

Kidding? No, Im dead serious.

And I didnt mention anything about Merriman so you need to brush up on your reading comprehension. And please tell me 1 excuse that I made for anyone.

Fact is that if you have a problem with Tank Johnson playing in the Super Bowl then your problem is with the American legal system. If your that concernced about it then you should spend time pushing for legal reform and not just complain about it during the Super Bowl b/c its a popular topic hyped by the media.

You are still kinda missing the point of my post. The list of NFL players getting off lightly is misleading. ANYBODY with a good lawyer will get similar treatment in this country. Thats how our legal system is set up.

I worked at a law firm as a file clerk for a year. I read cases all the time where Joe Schmo's got probation instead of jail time for drunk driving, possession with inent to distribute, etc. Its about your individual case and how your lawyer presents it. Being gainfully employed, as all NFL players are, also helps out a great deal when it comes to sentencing.

My point is that this happens every day and if people have such a problem with it then they should be lobbying for legal reform across the board and not just when they notice it because it involves a professional athlete.

Source?

Just curious if the permits for his 6 guns and 550 rounds of ammo were a violation of his 2005 parole agreement.

The Law is based upon and is a practice and a branch of Philosophy.

Philosophy is the art of B...S...

If you are person with money and have good advisors, friends etc.

They will find you or you will find good representation.

Which means someone that can talk himself out of a box.

this is little to do with race, but more about money.

For if you don't have money, you have to find someone that does this for free, had the time and believes in your case. Where as if you are notable, etc. Either the money or the noteriety will be sufficient.

Now, the better question is why put yourself in a position, or increase the risk of being in a position.

Meaning to live a lifestyle (jet setter, hip hop, glam, whatever) means placing yourself in positions where people you don't know enough about are going to bring their crap into your life.

Lets leave it as this, if you don't drink or do drugs you won't get a DUI. But if you do, you might.

But you are the one who decided upon going down that road.

Don't deflect your responsibility for yourself off on some blame game. Man up.

AND his friend was shot dead in front of him the week(?) before?

False, his friend was shot in a bar 1 or 2 nights after. He was suspended for the game, so he decided to go out clubbing. Pretty dumb thing to do, but also not exactly criminal...

Just to insert some facts about this case.. not that the media seems to think they are relevant, but the violation of his parole was that he didn't aquire a Firearms Owners Identification Card. it has nothing to do with whether the guns are registered or legal or that the amount of ammunition was high. he simply didn't fill out the form which illinois requires so that they can check to see if you are mental patient or violent fellon before you buy guns. tank bought his guns in arizona where it wasn't required, registered the guns and then moved them with him to illinois. he broke the law, but a lot of hunters break that same law when they travel through illinois to wisconsin, michigan, or minnesota during deer season. its a slap on the wrist deal, but it does violate is probation on the earlier charge of having a gun in his car without a permit.

Which is why I placed the (?) next to it. So thanks for picking me up on the dates.

I wasn't stating anything is illegal about a friend killed, my point was as part of the overall Tank Johnson M.O. he is clearly NOT making sound decisions.

Including guns and ammo in his home with a child present.

homeboy, dictionary:

cheat (chēt) Pronunciation Key

v. cheat·ed, cheat·ing, cheats

v. intr.

To violate rules deliberately, as in a game: was accused of cheating at cards.

since testing positive for nandrolone says nothing about the intent of taking the substance, you can't call him a cheater, find a different word.

No I wasn't missing the point of anything. I just thought you had a good post.

My point was that even though what Tank did was wrong, for someone all of a sudden to be offended by behavior like this is ridiculous. This is nothing new. Was this incident some kind of epiphany when similar behavior by NFL players has happened for years? It's almost like saying "This just in...water is wet!" and someone is astounded by it.

Maybe I wasn't clear about that.

I love how the Media gets all excited about 550 rounds of ammowhich is not alot.

I have 4 boxes for my 357(25 per box),Makes it easier to have on hand for target shooting.

So if he has 6 guns, I don't see a problem with about 3 to 4 boxes per his 6 guns

Clearly it was NOT written into Tank's parole conditions that he could not own guns.

Personally I can't think of a better reason to have a gun and ammo in your home than if you have a child to protect. I do believe that is still legal in all of the states(?).

Because he is a scum bag cheater, who should have been banned for the year. He is the Barry Bonds of football.

He is a role model to many of the kids in the Bay area, and he takes drugs...nice way to send a message, merriman

If I ever needed a gun once to protect a child then it would be worth owning a gun and ammo.

Your suburbian bubble view may make sense to you, but in the country and in the inner cities where most of the people live reality is different.

If you don't believe in protecting your family that is fine with me, but don't pass judgemnet on those of us who do.
