2007 NFL Draft Weekend Team Thread: San Diego Chargers/Arizona Cardinals

Recommended Posts

Are there any other Charger fans here? I have prior commitments and won't be able to post. I do believe they will move Turner and move up in the draft. The talk out here is that a trade with Tennessee is being setup tonight (rumor-radio). *oldnews, I know*

How do you say Dwayne F***ing Jarrett? Phillip Rivers should be licking his chops.....this dude can play.

I've been a USC fan for 30 years, forget all the 4.62 in the forty crap. Ask the great Leon Hall from Michigan if Jarrett can run.

Jarrett is a stud and if the Chargers pass on him, they're friggin' stupid....oh wait, A.J. Smith IS a moron.

"San Diego SUPERCHARGERS, San Diego CHARGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

LOL

If you think AJ Smith is a moron, than you know nothing about the NFL.

However, there is a decent chance they pass on Jarrett. First of all, he's built like too many of the Chargers current big receivers. Secondly, they need a GOOD safety really really bad. If Griffin is there, then it's a given that he's the pick. If not, then a speedy slot receiver might be chosen. They don't really have a home run threat at the position.

Yeah, but Levi Brown might end up being just as good, if not better. You never know. Gallery was supposed to be a can't miss star, too.

I think they take Peterson here.....

I was thinking the same thing....

Levi Brown would be a good pick, but a bit of a reach.

May be LaRon Landry, not sure they need a DB though

Nah, he's dropping. Supposedly, his collar bone isn't healing.

Great pick by the Cards Russ Grimm will have that guy playing better than Thomas.

Well, now that Peterson is gone, the Turner trade could happen soon. I'm guessing Buff might have been waiting to see if he'd drop to them.

Spoken like a true prodigy. At this point, I want the Broncos to take Griffin just to screw San Diego over.

Mayock is ripping your Donkeys for that pick.

Now that all the safeties are gone (I still think the TITanS took Griffin for Turner), what does A.J. Smith do?

BPA? Branch? Houston?

WR? Smith, Jarrett, Rice?

OL? Grubbs? Staley?

David Harris?

Reach for Weddle?

Trade down?

I'm guessing Steve Smith or Rice here. David Harris wouldn't be bad, though. I don't know if Wilhelm and Cooper can get the job done as starters.

SD-

Horrible pick.

What was up with Rosenass and Olson in that ESPN clip? That trick only works once jackass.

wow. kind of a shocker.

i personally had davis rated as my 21st best wr. i would think rice (deep posts/end zone jumpball) or smith (reliable intermediate threat to complement gates) would better serve their purpose.

They needed a speed wr to compliment their bigger wrs and Davis was a track guy. But that was a pretty big reach. Most mocks I've seen had Davis going late second round. As long as they were reaching, I'd have preferred they reach at fs with Weddle. But then again, it's still possible that Turner is being dealt to Tenn for Griffin.

report on the radio in SD just said the Turner for Griffin deal had been done, rest of the details werent available, but it is pending Turner signing an extension

I hoped that was the case. Now I feel better about the Davis reach. So with the next pick I see ILB or CB.

:dunno:

So much for the Turner deal. If they gave up the farm to trade up for Weddle, then Griffin stays in Tenn.

I would have liked them to have taken Weddle at 30 and then taken the best wr availible rather than reach at Davis and trade away two 3rd's and a 5th to get Weddle. A.J. Smith lost a little on his fastball today.

I really enjoyed watching Weddle play for Utah. The guy is a flat out play maker. Taking INTs the distance, returning kicks. He actually lined up in the backfield and ran the option many times this year, successfully. Very versatile.

I agree I think that they shoulda reached for Weddle at 30 and hoped Davis or someone else was there at 62, Smith, Jarrett, Rice, Davis one of the 4 coulda been there

The 1090 in SD is way off, saying that a possible 3rd this year + 1st next year from Tenn for Turner now, so I will just stop listening to them

SD gave up a 3rd this year, a 5th this year and a 3rd next year for the 37th pick.

According to espn ...

Chargers trade up with Bears

San Diego Chargers: Acquire pick No. 37 (selected S Eric Weddle).

Chicago Bears: Acquire picks No. 62, No. 93, No. 167 and a third-round pick in the 2008 draft.

If so, a steal for the bears.

according to the points system the Chargers got the better of the deal

either way, good for both teams, chances are those guys wouldnt even make the club on the Bolts

SD will prob get a 3rd or 4th comp pick next year for Donnie Edwards, too. So they won't miss the 08 3rd rounder too much.

Round 1 L. Brown: A bit of a reach, but would have gone #8 or #10 so I'm not dissappointed here at all.

Leinart needs protecting!!!

Round2 Branch DT Michigan.... wow, quite the fall, but should stop some running backs. Did they give up on Gabe Watson?

Round 3 Butch _____ LB FSU... I hear he has a good motor... this is good!

CB is my guess with the Bolts next pick. David Irons, Travarous Bain, or Tanard Jackson. Maybe ILB with Anthony Waters. Oh, and Brandon Siler is still out there.

Whew. Finally a pick that doesn't make me go  . If healthy, this guy should beat out Wilhelm or Cooper from day one.

I dont think Waters was picked to even have a shot to beat out Wilhelm or Cooper, Dobbins will still be ahead of him on the depth chart. AJ likes to stack em deep, look for this guy to contribute on ST and such and rotate in

None of those three guys excite me too much. Wilhelm is more a 3rd down specialist and Dobbins was considered a project. Cooper might have the most talent but is IMO a dubious long term replacement for Edwards. Waters has the chance to be, by far, the best of that bunch. He was the one pick that I felt was a typical A.J. Smith choice. The rest of the draft was a bit clumsy. I like the first two players they got, but when and how they were acquired was a bit of clusterfock. Next I'd like to see OL and CB depth. Eventually, they'll have to get a third TE, too. But that could be taken as FA.

Scott Chandler... meh. They needed a third TE, but these types are a dime a dozen. Very average looking draft this year.

Great value on Siler. Now they've drafted two ILBs that are more talented then their current starters. :P The funny thing is that I thought they might take him over Waters in the third.

yah I agree Siler to me was top 40 talent, just the injury concern helped us a ton. Seems like every year we get someone like that to fall. It's nice being loaded so we can take guys coming off injuries and have time to wait and see on em
