my computer is focked

Recommended Posts

Ok, so....

I installed quickbooks on my computer last night, and then this morning, I updated my winrar.

I restarted my computer, and it is making me click on my account on the startup screen (which it shouldn't be doing) and now, I can't start up any programs, I can't copy/paste anything (no files, not even anyones picks in this draft to past into the edit). I can't re-arrange any icons on the desktop, they are just frozen there. My spy sweeper/popup blocker/everything is "corrupt and can't be opened", the windows installer isn't working anymore, so I can't uninstall anything, when I click on my user accounts, it just pulls up a blank screen. When I open up IE, or anything else for that matter (word document/excel/etc...) it doesn't put it in the taskbar, so if I hit the minimize button, it's lost forever.

I can't even read my yahoo mail, or delete anything from it.

has anyone heard of this? I'm usually pretty focking good with computers, but this has had me stumped since 10am today.

I don't have my copy of windows XP to do a fresh format, cause that's what I'm thinking i'm gonna have to do unless someone can think of anything.

Ohh, and I can't even download and burn a pirated verson, cause my computer no longer recognizes any ports on my computer.....

I did notice that it created a QB account of it's own, but by the time I noticed this, it was too late (I noticed it on the girlfriends computer, and was able to take preventative measures, so her computer is fine *I put QB on both our computers by her request*)

Thanks guys.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like your registry's crapped out. The only suggestion I have is to boot up with the last known good configuration. You can do that by following these steps:

1. restart your computer

2. while it's restarting, just keep hitting f8

3. when the black and white menu appears, select the last known good configuration option

If nobody here can help you, I can send you to some place/someone who can. I'm not looking for trouble so I'd rather not post a link here. :P

Have you tried to boot it in safe mode?

yeah, I've booted in safe mode, safe mode with comand prompt, safe mode with networking, and I've tried "last known good config", all of which have done jack sh1t. This has me so frustrated that I feel like ripping out my HD and throwing it through the window

I'd normally say to email me the link, I got yahoo mail, but with this computer issue, I can't even read the messages. I can see that I have messages, and I can open it, but it's just blank inside.

Can't remember but is it possible to run HJT or regcleaner from a disk and have them look at your hard drive? I agree that this looks like a focked up registry.

I have alcohol 120%, so I have virtual drives, so I can mount iso's without having disks....

what registry programs you recommend?

I'm pretty sure you can get an XP rescue disk from the web if you don't have one but of course you would need to get to the web...

You should try hijackthis and run a log that you can then post on certain sites and have an expert look them over. That'll help identify any lingering nasties that may be ###### you up. As far as registry tools, I still like the old free version of regcleaner but a bunch of them work well.

Where did you get the Quickbooks from? Demonoid? ;-D

I can get online. and download stuff, and run stuff, but I can't run stuff and expect it to be working if I have to restart my computer at any point.

like I tried re-installing my spy sweeper software, but you have to restart to complete install, and naturally upon restart, it focks it up again cause the problem is still there before it could find it.

also you might be able to find a cracked TuneUp Utilities 2007 on the web that has a pretty good reg utility.

Another option is to look at what software is loaded at start up and see if there's some stuff there that shouldn't be. reg cleaner will give you that and you can look it up on your machine. I would try to turn off everything you can and then restart.

Finally, look at what processes are running on your machine and see if anything looks weird.

I think that the rescue disk (saved to a CD) will boot first and then perhaps allow you to correct issues on your machine. But I may be wrong. Never had to use one of these.

Download CleanUp! and run a standard cleaning job. That'll rid you of any and all crap files, including your prefetches. Not sure if it'll help but it can't hurt.

I assume you know enough to be careful with any registry cleaners. I once deleted my whole HD with one of those. Yeah, I cleaned that HD real good..... :D

Anyway, good luck. :dunno:

Have you tried system restore? You should be able to restore the system to it's state prior to the problems. I'm curious though. Why would you install Quickbooks when your business went up in flames? :dunno:

I"ve tried system restor, but all it says is that it can't do that and to restart computer and try again.... to which I have restarted my computer literally 50 times today, and each time nothing ever works.

the update is that my computer is still focked. I don't see any strange registry stuff, but then again, there are so many .dll and such files that unless it said "I'm the one focking your computer up" in bright red type, I wouldn't notice it. ;)

I know its not funny, it sucks...but what you wrote was kinda funny, understanding the frustration.

Did you go to HJT and dl your file and save it to disk?

that's the sh1t thing... I can't copy anything that is already on my computer. I can't attach anything that is already on my computer. My computer shows that I have my cd/dvd burner, but when I try to burn something with it, it says that my com/oln or whatever ports are having problems.... :D

ohh, and I have no clue what HJT means

HiJackThis.com

It's the usual starting point because it focking rocks. It takes all the info your system has and translated correctly, can identify (user proficient) the problem.

Sorry to ask as someone else did...but you can internet but not open anything on the net?

I can internet, and open stuff up, but certain things I can't do, like if I open an email (I have yahoo), it just opens a blank message. nothing shows up in my taskbar, so I can't minimize anything or else I can't pull it back up. I can't copy/paste anything (such as me highlighting hjt.com and just pasting it in the address bar). Hell, on here, if I click "edit" to the post, it just pulls up the post as if I clicked "full edit"... but it doesn't give me a dropdown option of full/quick... that's just on the internet side of things, and only as much as I've noticed while on the net, there could be more that I just don't know about.

I'll try HJT right now.

just went to HJT and it just lists spyware programs to download trial versions of... I have (paid for) the spy sweeper (one they recommend), and it is focked up through all this, and when I tried re-installing it, it won't do it cause you need to restart your computer, and naturally, when I restart the computer, it focks it up again and won't let it load up.... :D

www.merijn.org/files/HiJackThis_v2.exe

This is the link to the hijackthis download. It's not hijackthis.com

If you type that in, it should start the download.

Be careful with hijackthis to post your log on a website where folks can help you. I've done my machine long enough that I feel comfortable doing it myself but it's better to see what folks do first. If you're of the adventurous kind, then there's a hijackthis tutorial at www.castlecops.com/HijackThis.html but you really need to be able to click on links to use it well.

start, run, type in 'cmd', hit ENTER key.

in DOS window, type 'format c: /y' and hit Enter on your keyboard.

That will fix the majority of the problems.

well, all this stuff was no help, and now I've lost interenet on my computer (I'm using someone else's)

guess I'm gonna have to format my computer, but the sh1t thing is that seeing I moved, I left all my disks at my other house, and I don't have a copy of XP. So if I format, how the fock am I gonna get an OS back on my computer? :dunno:

as well as I lose all my music, documents, etc.... (can't backup on disk cause it's all focked)

don't be retarded. There's no reason to format your computer just because you lost internet access.

I would try uninstalling your network card, then reinstalling with up to date drivers (you'll need to download them on another computer, burn to disc and then bring them home)

I would also delete your existing connections and services. The reinstall TCP/IP and all other network services.

Make sure to shut everything down then boot in the following order: plug in high speed modem to wall => power on PC => reinstall network adapter, then all network services => set up a web connection.

There's absolutely no reason to format, lose data, music, etc.

Last known good mode only works when you haven't signed on to a system yet. This will not work.

My first step would be to boot to safe mode and restore to a previous restore point.

If that fails, reinstall the OS.

I don't think he's only lost internet access...from the sounds of it, that computer is totally unresponsive. Safe boot doesn't work and he has no rescue disk.

Might want to try this: http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/driverescue19d.html if your drive is FAT. May not work on NTFS. It's free.
