wiffleball 4,790 Posted August 2, 2007 It's so 5 hours ago. Get over it already. Bring some new tragedy to the headlines, mkay? I mean, didn't everybody - the second this story broke - know exactly what was going to happen?? In-depth stories about "our nation's crumbling infrastructure". Local officials vying for microphone time. Bush trying desperately to use this tragedy to look better than he did with the Katrina fiasco. Talking heads on TV asking why it took a tragedy for someone to start talking about bridge safety - even though of course, THEY weren't talking about bridge safety until this happened either.... I think it's the fact that news orgs beat stories to death rather than report what they know, then move on to something else until actual new developments occur. If you go to CNN.com right now, you'd swear to God that this is the only thing happening in the world right now.

If you go to CNN.com right now, you'd swear to God that this is the only thing happening in the world right now. The news is about ratings. If people stop watching, they'll stop showing it. Problem is, there was a giant bridge that collapsed right here in America and several people died. It's a freak accident and alot of people I'm sure have always thought "man, I hope this bridge doesn't collapse with me on it." So people are naturally intrigued. Once those people stop being interested, they'll move on to another story.

akaoni 0 Posted August 2, 2007 Minnesota Senator Norm "Shoeboxhead" Coleman (R-MN) issued a call for improvement of infrastructure shortly before the collapse: Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) announced today that the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee approved the National Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2007, legislation he joined Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) and Senator George Voinovich (R-OH) in introducing earlier this year. This legislation was created to address the deterioration of much of our nation’s infrastructure including our roads, bridges, drinking water systems, dams and other public works. The bill would create a National Commission on Infrastructure of the United States to analyze our nation’s infrastructure and report recommendations to Congress. This group would also be charged with aiding in the nation’s economic growth and ensuring the ability of the nation’s infrastructure to meet current and future demands. Coincidence? You be the judge. akaoni 0 Posted August 2, 2007 And Bush blew up the Twin Towers. I'm not saying he had anything to do with it...but the timing of the press release was curiously prophetic.

Jetdoc 20 Posted August 2, 2007 I live right next to a river, and they are doing construction on the only bridge that leads over that river. WSIS? WWJD?
NewbieJr 541 Posted August 2, 2007 Notice how everyone cares about animals when they have a chance to pursecute a black man like Mike Vick, but when a bridge collapses (a bridge full of white people), no one mentions the loss of fish-lives? This makes it all-to-clear what a witch hunt the Vick thing is.

Boz/BoFan 0 Posted August 2, 2007 Who knew Wafflboy would chime in with an "above it all" post, raise your hands Who knew he'd throw in an untrue cheap shot at Bush, Bush, the phuckhat that he is, had nothing to do with Katrina. Spend 10 min. in Nawlins and you'll see exactly why its still on its asss. Having been to NO over 100 times, I can assure you nothing short of Superman himself could have saved those people from themselves, and then they'd go right back to how they were before. I'm not saying I think this was terrorism, but with all the "It is not if but when the radicals hit us again" stuff they say all the time, they sure are able to rule it out within seconds of anything like this happens. Groundhog 24 Posted August 2, 2007 I think we'd all be a little more comfortable if CNN would just go back to a nice wholesome Jon Benet update.
Signature_Athletes 0 Posted August 3, 2007 Being a resident of the Twin Cities Metro, I can say this about the coverage. Only one local station, KSTP Channel 5 (ABC affiliate) covered this story all day. The other channels went on showing Judge Judy, The Young and The Restless, Oprah, and Jeopardy. I was amazed that the national news was covering this story 10 times as much as the local channels. I think the locals had more of an obligation to stay on the scene, but whatever. What is really annoying me is all the people that say "I use to drive that bridge every day," "I was on that bridge last year," "I was supposed to go over that bridge this month." OK you along with 141,000 people a day used that bridge. Are we supposed to be amazed that you weren't on the bridge when it fell. Are we supposed to think, "oh my, that could have been you on the stretcher." Well you know what, there were approximately 500 cars that were within a minute of traveling over that bridge. Over 2500 cars were within 5 minutes of the bridge. So, I don't care that you drove over it 5 years ago when you went to the Vikings game........ Cripes people!!!!!! GettnHuge 2 Posted August 3, 2007 3 million people claim to have been at super bowl I 2.4 million claim to have slept with paris hilton which is more believable? I suppose since the attendance for SBI was 61,946, and Paris has focked 84,889...the 2nd would be the more likely.
