NewbieJr 541 Posted January 21, 2008 Newbie, I usually agree with you, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is no scenario other than Eli Manning completing shitting on himself on the big stage in the Superbowl. This is an absolute. Yeah, unfortunately, things continue to conveniently fall in place for New England. I wouldn't be surprised if Plaxico or Jacobs get hurt before the game. That's how the Pats season has gone.
Dan 66 Posted January 21, 2008 Newbie, I usually agree with you, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is no scenario other than Eli Manning completing shitting on himself on the big stage in the Superbowl. This is an absolute. Completely disagree. Eli has been a part of a team that has won 10 consecutive road games, 3 of them in the playoffs, in all conditions. Eli has been inconsistent, but there are times like this that test and grow a player. Roethlisberger "came of age" on the way to the Super Bowl. This may be Eli's time to do the same thing. I, for one, have been very impressed with his play the last four weeks.
xenophobe 1 Posted January 21, 2008 He is REALLY good - and I could see him making some big plays. Quick and small. How is he in size comparison to MoJo and Sproles? The Pats did a good job of containing them - but he looks like he might be faster than they are. He's a little bigger than them (a couple inches) though lighter than MoJo. He's a tad smaller than Westbrook, but the best comparison, build and style of runner, would be Tiki Barber.
KSB2424 3,173 Posted January 21, 2008 Last I checked, the Giants were a balanced team. Were Eli's stats all world last night? I think you may be underestimating this team. They have been winning close games with Eli not turning the ball over at all. The italic portion is the exception to the the rule, not the norm. That will most certainly change when lil Eli steps onto the big stage in front of the bright lights. I just hope he doesn't puke on the field.

Well, I guess we're either seeing a fluke in the way Eli has been playing or we're witnessing a future great QB who is maturing and learning the game. I don't think anyone knows for sure at this point.
parrot 789 Posted January 21, 2008 Once the cold and windy weather gets here, New England will lose. They can't run the ball well enough to win in the cold weather. Can't stop the run either. One bad game from Brady and Moss and they are toast.
Willie McGee 0 Posted January 21, 2008 A few reasons they should NOT be concerned: 1.) The defense turned in its best performance of the season. 2.) Lawrence Maroney is playing his best football of the season. 3.) They've won two playoff games while getting 2 total catches from Moss. 4.) They won the AFC Championship despite Brady having his worst performance of the season. 5.) The "old men" Bruschi and Seau both had exceptional games in the AFC Championship. 6.) The O-line has DOMINATED the 2nd half of both playoff games against 2 excellent defenses. 7.) They are getting big plays from fringe players like Faulk, Gaffney, Hobbs, Sanders, etc.
TredH20 0 Posted January 21, 2008 He's a little bigger than them (a couple inches) though lighter than MoJo. He's a tad smaller than Westbrook, but the best comparison, build and style of runner, would be Tiki Barber. I can see them stopping him - they were pretty successful against MoJo and Taylor and completely silenced Westbrook earlier in the season. Problem is - in those games - they stopped the run and made the QB try to beat them (which surprisingly Feeley almost did). This would make sense versus Manning, but this Bizarro Manning has been making some good throws, and what scares me even more is that Burress and Toomer have been making sick catches. If the Pats concentrate on the run and play a soft zone in the secondary - like they have been the past couple of weeks, giving up 15-18 yards completions to the likes of Vincent Jackson every 3rd down - they may be in trouble. The Pats defensive philosophy seems to be "bend, bend, bend, bend, but not break"...drives me crazy actually...but with the NY WRs playing great - and Manning playing out of body...that philosophy might not work. They are gonna have to figure out how to pressure Manning early and often. I think the 2 weeks of prep will be put to good use by the Pats and probably started last night after the VIP club party. Dont_Fook_Wit_me 0 Posted January 21, 2008 What can you say? The Pats are the cheapest, lamest, most undeserving bunch of focking rats that have basically ruined football and the enjoyment of it. I love how noone takes them seriously as great champs outside of Bahstin... its a big smoke and mirror show run by a souless coach and a spoonfed, caretaker QB that hasnt done sh!t except run the ultimate chuck and duck offense all year. Congrats Pats, you have redefined the word "underwhelming" and have only revealed how exceptionally LOUSY the NFL has become by somehow winning all of your games playing .500 football for all but a handful games this year. The other teams just out-sucked you a little more. Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y You guys are #1 in our book! I take them seriously.....they have been dominating since 2000, its kind of hard to ignore that, and thats the only reason that you only have bad stuff to say about them......Im man enough to sit back and appreciate the greatness of this team.... nzoner 939 Posted January 21, 2008 I think that the Super Bowl is going to be a great game. I have several thoughts, here, so bear with me. #2 - The Giants have no trepidation going into this game. They know they can play with New England, especially against that defense. The fact that they were within 3 points of New England, in New Jersey, Fixored
Barnaby Wilde 0 Posted January 21, 2008 Dan, The Giant-Patriot game in week 17 was at the Meadowlands, not New England. The Giants have not lost on the road since week 1, in Dallas.
IGotWorms 4,063 Posted January 21, 2008 1. In scoring drives, the Chargers outscored the Patriots 4-32. The Chargers were desimated with injuries. LT and Gates may as well not have suited up and Rivers was a statue. New England still barely won. 3. Teams seemed to have figured out Moss and Brady is suffering for it. His three interceptions make him the worst of the four QBs in this weekend's games. 4. Did I mention that San Diego had four drives resulting in scores and New England only had three? I'm not sure it matters who wins the NFC game. New England is reeling and won't be either. Discuss Reasons Newbie Jr. should worry that he may be mentally retarded: 1. He can't spell. "Desimated"="decimated." HTH. 2. He apparently doesn't understand many words in the English language. A team cannot be "reeling" when it has won all 18 games on the season. HTH. 3. His powers of reasoning are severely lacking. Brady played worse than any other quarterback this weekend? Really? Even when Favre decided to start throwing the ball to the Giants secondary in the fourth quarter and overtime? 4. "Scoring drives" that culminate in field goals are not analogous to scoring drives that end in touchdowns. 7 points is greater than 3. HTH. There may be more. I do understand the meaning of 'reeling'. They've been 'reeling' since the Philly game. 3. Yes. Brady played worse than Favre. Brady is just lucky that his team is good enough, and the Chargers were depleted enough, that his three interceptions weren't as costly as Favre's. Also, Favre was in -24 degree wind chill. 4. I realize that. Bottom line is, New England could only muster three scoring drives. San Diego earned four. A healthy LT would have turned a few of them into touchdowns. You better be scared. The Giants are coming. Spell check my post and then come back with any errors, but again, forget to respond to the actual subject of the post. THT

NewbieJr 541 Posted January 21, 2008 I guess going 7-0 since the Eagles game is "reeling." Yes, they are about 1-6 against the spread since then. Easily the luckiest team in NFL history. Everything always seems to go right for them, even when they're getting outplayed. Reeling, I tell you. Reeling.
ElwayFan 0 Posted January 21, 2008 The Pats played the Giants in NJ week 17, not Foxboro. No team can adjust to game situations like the Pats can, they have shown us time after time this season with the close games. The Giants have a good shot, but the Pats can play smash mouth football as well as air it out with the best of them. It will be a good game.
