After last season, there was less of a need to do so.

Now you have Clifton looking like maybe 1 year left in the tank. Tauscher is a free agent.

KGB gone, Jenkins recovering from a major injury.

The next step is also the LBs.

If you really believe Thompson will all of a sudden become a big mover and shaker in free agency then you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. I don't know how many times I have to mention it but Thompson hates free agency! Specifically big name free agents. Thompson would much rather build through the draft and continue on his five year plan of creating a Super Bowl champion than pay a free agent.

Mover and shaker? No. But he will fill holes IMO.

He hates overspending early in free agency.

He hates just using it as a way to build the team.

He has paid free agents and ones that were ranked high at their positions.

Woodson, Pickett, Chillar, Manuel (he ended up sucking but was considered a top 3 free agent safety that year).

In addition to spending the money to lock up his own players and Kampman when he was a free agent.

He also went after guys like Arrington but lost out because NY paid way too much for him.

I think he will still rely mostly on the draft. But with Tauscher's injury and Clifton declining quicker than excpected...there could be more noise made by him this year.

I don't think he will go crazy...but I think he does more than in the past.

thats what seattle and the the bears thought after they reached the sb....why change? i agree..but you do need to...both teams dropped off dramatically thanks to key injuries.....

the pats are a team that still brings in big guys even after a great season...

i dont know why TT calls free agency shark infested waters...as you pointed out..the guys he brought in HAVE been good for the team..i can see why he didnt take randy moss for practically nothing..he had no intentions of keeping brett..and randy would be moping by now watching aaron back there...
