I just hate when owners blame one guy for their team's plight. If your team hinges on your 1st pick then that just suggests an owner doesn't know how to draft in the middle rounds. Without hindsight, who else would you have drafted? MJD, turner, rice, jackson, mendenhall, moss, dwill, fitz, jennings, andre johnson, colston, and a few more have all underperformed. Some of those guys haven't underperformed. Mendenhall in particular shouldn't be on that list. Chris Johnson hasn't repeated 2009, but he's still the #3 RB in points scored. Turner and Jackson haven't underperformed by much. Andre Johnson hasn't underperformed too much, either. He's been a little banged up, but still ranks #11 amongst WRs...Jennings is starting to come on. Rice and Fitzgerald are definitely two of the biggest busts. No argument there. Moss as well. Boldin was going to vulture passes and when they kept McGahee I should have realized he was going to steal TD's. In my league (.5 ppr, bonus for 150 yards) ray rice has more points than everyone listed except chris johnson, who in retrospect, shouldn't have been on the list. He also has more points than miles austin, desean jackson, calvin johnson, marshall, colston. In my league, turner has 90ish points and rice has 92ish. Maybe our leagues scoring is quite different, but it seems interesting you say turner has only slightly disappointed yet seem to suggest that rice has been more than slightly disappointing. I have Rice and MJD and I'm 6-0 with a chance to go 7-0 depending on tonight's game. It's a keeper league so things are different, but good team management can overcome a lot of problems. (DMac and Ahmed Bradshaw mid rounds ftw) I think the big problem is that people expect their #1 RB to put up monster numbers every week to rescue their team like LT did in his prime. The reality is that players like that come along very rarely. A person should draft their #1 guy and expect him to put up top 10 numbers for his position at least 60% of the time, and one or two game changing performances per year. to expect much more than that may be unreasonable. as a Ray Rice owner, I've been reasonably happy with what he has done when healthy. I expect his weaker numbers are a desire by the coach to prevent him from wearing down and to make sure he is okay after sitting out a game due to injury. as the season progresses and the games become more important I would expect he will get more touches.
