The new stock exchange game for fftoday

Recommended Posts

http://vse.marketwatch.com/

fftoday1 is the name of the contest and its open to everyone so no password.

This year instead of the 100k we are going to big ball and try 1

mil with no resets.

My best trade last year was shorting BP right after the spill. I had no idea that it was going to be THAT bad and drop the stock that much.

well that didnt start off as well as I was hoping. I put a market order in on SLV and it didnt go through. By the time I got up it was already up 92cents. I jumped in and watched it drop to .89 which cost me 3500. I am sure that SLV will move above its 52 week high of 30 very soon. After hours its up 9 cents and I wouldnt be surprised to see it add another 50 cent to a buck tomorrow.

Yeah, I had a hard time getting it to buy also. By the time I figured it out Citi bank was already up 8 cents and proceded to drop the rest of the day. <_< Oh well, I expect it to double in the next year.

Im pretty sure that what happened was SLV jumped before the order could go through. Because I ran it all the way up to the edge of what I could buy when it jumped it put me over the amount of stock i could buy with the money had.

In, and I'm winning again, or not.

I was up 9k at one point to put me in first. Now im in last thanks to a ###### reversal of 25 cents to plus turning into -6 for the negitive. I still think its a little profit taking on the run up to 30 again. Should be back on the plus by the end of the week.

Never put market orders in dumbass. Don't you listen to Jim Cramer?

Speaking of being a dumbass...do you get "paid" dividends in this game? I purchased stocks last year that had dividends, but never saw them come through the game.

nope. Its just the straight stock price and what you can make off that.

Do you know if you're able to set up the game to include dividend payouts?

You can't I looked. I would have also liked to be able to trade options in the context of the game but thats also not allowed. Its a pretty simple game. They used to hold a contest each month and the winner got 400 bucks. I won 3 times in a row.......before they found out I was exploiting a flaw in their system.

In my defense I didnt know I was exploiting the flaw. I was young and didnt really understand how the stock market worked. Not only did I think it was ok I even sent them multiple emails to see if my "strategy" was ok.

I was short selling stocks that were going to split and the game didn't take into account the split. So say IBM was at 100 and was splitting to 50. I short sold the max amount of stock I could and when it split it looked like the stock had just lost 50 per share.

Eees a long game. Slv rebounded a little today but damn im getting smoked. I hope I was not wrong about the runup to 30. Im gonna give it about another week to show me some sort of break up in that direction. If not im dumping it and gonna go back to short selling. I seem to be able to find stocks that lose money much easier than ones that make it.

rhhby I would have to think that this is going to cause it shed at least a few bucks. It had a run up to 36.96 in the last few days and has been on a slide every since. Its down .15 right now in after hours trading and could very well get pounded when it opens. A short sale on this could bring some quick cash to any of you fockers that are paying attention.

The fight over breast-cancer treatment with Roche's Avastin has come to a head: U.S. officials decided to revoke the drug's indication for breast cancer, and European Medicines Agency moved to restrict it for use with only one type of chemotherapy. The decisions stand to cut more than $1 billion off Avastin's $6 billion in annual revenues, and they're sure to draw fire from folks who've been advocating for the drug.

FDA and EMA have been reviewing Avastin's utility in breast cancer since new trial data showed little benefit for patients with the disease; it stalled cancer growth for up to three months and didn't prolong patients' lives, the news service notes. An FDA advisory panel voted to withdraw the drug's indication for breast cancer, and even some patient advocates believed that the drug's breast cancer approval should be revoked. Meanwhile, the U.K.'s cost-effectiveness watchdog not only rejected Avastin in breast cancer, it gave the drug a poor review in other cancers earlier this week.

Others, including some vocal U.S. lawmakers, accuse the FDA of prejudice against the drug because of its high cost--and cost isn't supposed to be a factor in FDA approval decisions. The company maintains that Avastin is an important option for cancer patients.

Of course, revoking Avastin's breast cancer approval doesn't mean that doctors can't prescribe it for that use. It does mean, however, that insurers may stop covering the drug for breast cancer patients. Patient groups are lobbying insurance companies to keep paying for the drug for patients who are already using it, despite the FDA's negative decision.

Slv continued its break to the upside with another almost quarter gain. Slowly im getting the money back I lost. Hopefully it continues its slow and steady rise to 30.

While rhhby ddint get pounded as much as I thought it still dropped 55 cents and could still have another few bucks to drop.

Yep...Been good to me.

I'm no day-trader by ANY means. Honestly I don't know what 90% of the terminology means.

But apparently I do understand something about real money.

Now, if someone could tell me how to invest in cotton, wheat, and copper I'd be much happier.

Wow what a pop. A 1buck move to the + on slv not only pulled me out of the hole but also put me in in first. Im selling for now and I am going to short slv at its current price on whats been a pattern of pullbacks after a run like this.

How long you gonna ride slv? I covered and then sold short.

The easiest way to invest in cotton, wheat, and copper would be to do what you are doing now. Using an ETF that mirrors the market price of that commodity.

Bal for cotton

Lwea for wheat

JJC for copper
