xbishopx 6 Posted September 27, 2011 Pick this guy up ASAP. It's a risk but I can almost guarantee he gets picked up by the Cardinals, possibly the Bungles. Either way this guy will have an impact especially if he goes to the Cards. Beanie is already banged up and Slaton is miles above Chester Taylor and LaRod. Either way this guy will have an impact especially if he goes to the Cards. Beanie is already banged up and Slaton is miles above Chester Taylor and LaRod. I actually drafted him our auction the year he exploded onto the scene. I like what he brings to the table, but there are some issues: 1) Hanging onto the ball. #1 issue. if he can address this, he may be fine. 2) his weight/Speed. in the off season after his big year, he put on some weight in the hope of making himself more durable. I thought by adding the weight, he also lost some of his speed and elusiveness that made him such a prized back. I have not seen him play since his benching and dont know if he has changed his workout program to get the speed back, but if I'm drafting the guy, this is something that would be important to me. I dont deny he could be a player of interest. But if he cant hang onto the ball, no team will want him.
t-birdie 8 Posted September 27, 2011 I picked him off the wire last week seeing that he was the only healthy backup to Tate. I watched his 3 carries and understand why he was cut. He did nothing. He ran tentatively into the line and fell. Tate looks like an average back behind a great line. Foster looks like a great back behind a great line. Slaton made a great line look bad. I'll be holding him to see if he gets interest, just for fun - but if he can't run behind the Texans line, he's not gonna have much value elsewhere.
RSersen 0 Posted September 27, 2011 I don't think so. There are already enough "one injury away" guys out there. Redman, Ronnie Brown, Tolbert, Jacquizz/Snelling, Ringer, Hunter, Bernard Scott, Michael Bush, Hardesty, Carter. Probably more that I can't think of right now. Chances are most of us already have one of those guys (if not more) on our benches already. I can't find any room to add Slaton to that list, or give him priority over any of those guys, considering he doesn't have a team, and hasn't really been heard from in 2-3 years. Unless you're in a 20+ team league with a very deep bench, I don't know how you find room for him, or justify creating room for him. And I say very deep bench, because I'm in a 20 team league with 4 bench spots, and I still can't justify dropping anyone I have for him.
t-birdie 8 Posted September 27, 2011 I'd love to see him do well being that he was instrumental in my fantasy championship a few years ago, but I don't see it happening now.

xbishopx 6 Posted September 27, 2011 Like someone pointed out before..if you can't run behind HOU's O-Line..you can't run. Move along folks. He has run behind that O-Line and been productive. 4 carries is a huge sample to come to that conclusion... I agree with others, it will be a matter of opportunity but keep in mind his fumbling problems were all attributed to his nerve injury which caused him to lose feeling in his right arm thus not being able to determine what kind of grip he had on the ball. He obviously was afraid of losing his job and played with the injury just as every Texan RB does (Foster last year with the meniscus injury and this year with the hamstring). He wasn't a fumbling liability during that breakout year (2 fumbles 1 lost). He's only 25 and has great hands. Yes, he probably won't be carrying the load but he has done it before and if the opportunity presents itself, your telling me he's not better than the backups in Arizona!? With what's left on the wire, previous success and potential opportunity, he is worth a flier. Especially when Beanie just missed a game with a hamstring injury and they missed a running game in their loss last week. I repeat...Chester Taylor!? For God's sake, look how many teams have paraded Portis and LJ for workouts, they won't look at Slaton?

I'm not saying he can't be a solid back-up or produce for some team out there. What I do agree with is that there are a ###### ton better options on the WW at the moment. That being said, I'm in a 12 team league with 20 man rosters. I'm going to take a flyer on him and see where he lands (if he lands anywhere). It means I cut my back-up PK, but it's a lottery pick that probably won't pay off, but it ain't going to hurt either.

I almost took a flyer on him in my dynasty league, really don't have roster room. But it's intriguing...
PATSSOX 22 Posted September 28, 2011 Dolphins claimed Steve Slaton on waivers Dolphins claim RB Steve Slaton off waivers Dolphins claimed RB Steve Slaton off waivers from the Texans. It's a bit of a curious move because the Fins have a similar player in Reggie Bush, but was probably just made as Reggie insurance. Slaton, 25, can also return kicks. Averaging just 3.24 yards per carry on 170 attempts since his flash-in-the-pan rookie season, however, Slaton adds nothing as an inside ball carrier. He's essentially Bush's direct backup. Lex Hilliard holds the same role behind Daniel Thomas. Don't expect Slaton to accrue fantasy value this season barring injuries to all three of the above. xbishopx 6 Posted September 28, 2011 Dolphins claimed Steve Slaton on waivers I think it is a curious move on their part. There were other teams that I though would have been a better fit and could have used Slaton. It's not that bad of a situation with a rookie there and an injury prone change of pace back but we'll have to see. I still took a flier on him.
