Frozenbeernuts 2,332 Posted December 17, 2012 Well that arent pain pills or antibiotics. I am currently on an anti anxiety pill called lorazapam. I have had one full blown panick attack before a fee yeara ago. I was able to recover fine but have had anxiety episodes recently. While at the theater my hear had a spasm and started racing about as fast as you would think a heart could run. I went to the immediate care clinic and had an EKG done. They found nothing out if the ordinary besies my blood pressure being 24 points higher than normal. I actually am sonetimes at 118/80 but was at 147/80 at the clinic. My heart rate was pretty much normal by that time so they did not see any real concern. Just blew it off as stress. Well i asked for an anti anxiety because i know i will be worried about thid until i see a specialist. I have had a burning sensation in my chest today, and periodically thoughout the last 3 months just pushing it off as heart burn. Well i was driving home and the burninf stretched into my left arm and i could feel a slight pressure on my back. I also felt a slight tingling in my fingers. I called the wife and tolf her to be ready to go to the emergency room. I decided to do some more research and i came across a few articles describing a very similar situation that has ended with multiple ER visits and no solution. The common problem we all have is stress. I did find one person who said they ended up with angina, a condition where the heart isnt getting enough oxygen causing a spam in the heart. Its almist exactly what happened to me at the theater. I had exhaled and did not breath back in for a few seconds when the spasm happened. It seems every time there is a span of a few seconds between breaths i feel as if my heart is going to spasm. I am going to see a cardiologist tomorrow. Anyone have anything similar happen? I dont think it is angina as i am only 29 and only about 7 million americans have it. I wonder if it had sonething to do with my lungs. I have had a cough for a while and i jave inhaled some very dangetous chemicals in my line of work. Stuff that makes asbestos look innocent.

JTB 52 Posted December 17, 2012 Just a panic attack. And maybe a small seizure to kick it off. It happened to me while smoking pot and playing SEGA hockey back in college.
wiffleball 4,797 Posted December 17, 2012 Would be better to know what your dosage is, but drug-wise, you're on the lowest end of the spectrum. Doesn't accumulate in the blood stream, works for a limited time. Seriously man, don't sweat it. And I hope it works out well for you. Not much different than a shot or two of booze. I imagine you are on a pretty low dose of lorazepam since you are just starting out. The only thing I would caution you about is getting off the drug. Weird stuff can happen if you quit taking it cold turkey at higher doses. You slowly need to wean yourself off of it, so follow drs orders if you are going to stop taking it. As for the heart palpitations, it sounds like its the stress causing them. Stress can release chemicals like adrenaline into your body which can lead to heart palpatations. The cardiologist should be able to rule out other causes so its good that you are seeing him. I wouldn't want to diagnose your palpitations as simply stress without ruling out other more dangerous things. Once you are sure it's caused by the stress the doctor can give you some advice on how to combat the palpitations but the best thing to help you is just the knowledge that these palpitations are not going to kill you which will make it easier for you to relax when they occur. Frozenbeernuts 2,332 Posted December 17, 2012 I thought your union and union training made your workplace safe. Never assume your environment is 100% safe. Approach every job with caution. It is part of the reason i get paid so well. When you go i to a chemical plant or oil refinery some if the most dangerous chemicals know to man run throughout the plant. We do all we can to minimize the possibility of coming in contact with these chemicals. When you open up a line that had h2s (hydrogen sulfide) it may have been cleaned out but the chemical has had years to permeate the walls of the pipe. As a union contractor we take more time (usually) assessing the situation and taking all of the protocols possible than our counterparts. There was one chemical in particular that if a single drop gets on you youre basically dead. We wore full chem resistant suits but our faces were still slightly exposed, some exciting shlt. Another job we do is called a hot tap. We weld a round fitting onto a line, usually oil, while it is still live and in service. The risk is jf you blow a hole in the pipe you are welding on you are instantly vaporized by oil that is a couple of hundred degrees and ignites as soon as it hits air. So yeah sometimes our job is very risky but its pretty exciting when you get to do stuff like this.

Yes i am only on 1 mg of the drug. I really dont want to take it any mlre since it knocks me the fock out. The warning label had some serious withdrawl symptoms which i really want to avoid. Thanks for the insight.

Frozenbeernuts 2,332 Posted December 17, 2012 I can't imagine why you feel stress. Haha, i havent had to do that kind of work in a few years as i have been on new construction job. Honestly i think ita the hours. 84 hours a week is about what i am working now. I get up at 315 am and dont get home until 615 pm. That is where most of my stress probably lies. Unfortunately i cant just go to another job because i will royally screw over my boss. So i pretty much am going to ride out this job for another 4 months and then go to a nice 40 hour job.
